change the game?

I don't mean to be cynical but according to the lctg website, the winning game will have the same level of support from Cancer Research as I would if I was running a marathon to raise money for them.

the winning game-designers are not paid to make and run the game. the mentoring I'm sure will be great but if you can pull off a game like its trailed, you don't need that. the motivation to make a game with that impact is honorable and it's own reward. but that's a lot of work you need to do it well and that means time which means money unless you already have your rent covered.

meanwhile the organisers themselves get coverage in blogs and press and the like for tiny cost and they happen to have a startup company to promote.

I don't mean to be cynical.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "the mentoring I'm sure will be great but if you can pull off a game like its trailed, you don't need that". Everyone can use advice. Even the best designers can use advice.

To mount any significant fundraising event, you need to do an awful lot of unpaid work. This is exactly the same. And the winning team will get all the credit.

"meanwhile the organisers themselves get coverage in blogs and press and the like for tiny cost and they happen to have a startup company to promote."

Not only is this cynical, but it's completely inaccurate. LCTG has nothing whatsoever to do with Six to Start. It began before Six to Start was formed, and the website only mentions it in my bio. The competition was founded by me.

Would you rather LCTG not exist? Do you think that the volunteers are being exploited? I am donating £1000 - that's $2000 - of my own money to go into the development of the ARG. I was initially going to donate it directly to charity, but I decided that I could leverage it in this way to raise even more money.

Thanks plugs Smile It's all very exciting. I intend to be bald and grey by the end of it! The most important (perhaps only Wink ) update that you'll be getting can be found here

gradea, I'm only slightly worried about rent, but I do have a small tent should the worst happen and I'm prepared to live in it until this is done.
