Quote:
The Red Sea Coast is a region of eastern Egypt, following the shoreline of the Red Sea for 800 km (500 miles) from Suez in the north to the Sudanese border in the south. It is Egypt's fastest developing area for overseas travelers and is best known for its warm climate year-round, for its clear azure waters, for its beach resorts and - given the presence of many species of exotic fish and coral - for its value as a diving destination.

Note that Egypt's Sinai peninsula also borders the Red Sea, but is considered a separate region.

Maybe Egypt is where we should be looking.?

Symbol

I don't think this image needs any explanation.

Clears up the symbol a little, but I'm still a bit uncertain as to the exact layout. Some of this is educated guessing.

Good job Cr0ybot!

I'm added him on Skype (and I'm always on). We'll see if I can catch him sometime.

I've been doing a detailed search of the Red Sea Coast on the Saudi Side. I'm about 25% done, starting from the North end. If someone wants to start from the South we can end up in the middle.

Slow going, though, I'm doing a fairly zoomed-in close search so I might be missing things just a little way up the coast.

EDIT: Caught him on Skype. He reiterated that his Skyping would be temporary.

godai yuhsaku

godai yuhsaku is a character from the anime-series Maison Ikkoku...

Quote:
Yusaku begins as a poor ronin studying for his college entrance exams after failing in the past year. He eventually gets into a third-tier college (with Kyoko's help). He is kind-hearted and handsome, but indecisive and spacey. Yusaku is often 'played' by the other tenants of Ikkoku, who habitually take advantage of him (e.g. they use his room for frequent drinking binges and steal food from his care packages). He falls in love with Kyoko at first sight, but lacks the courage to tell her how he feels. Instead, he daydreams a lot and does numerous silly things. During the course of the series Yūsaku matures into an honorable man who becomes worthy of Kyoko, as his love for her grows from an infatuation to a lasting and devoted love. He lives in Room 5 (Go)

Godai is also a member of the forums, but knowing that JC is a nerd it's probably a double-reference.

Just got off with JC, here's the log of our chat:

Quote:
[11:45:27 AM] JC says: Are you in a secure location?
[11:55:42 AM] Satire says: Yes - I am.
[11:56:14 AM] JC says: Good.
[11:56:17 AM] Satire says: I've been searching the Saudi Coast for our mystery location.
[11:56:25 AM] JC says: and do you have news for me?
[11:56:51 AM] Satire says: Doesn't appear to be on the 25% Northernmost region. I'll keep searching. Just wanted to establish contact.
[11:57:09 AM] JC says: Fair enough
[11:57:15 AM] JC says: be advised, this is a temporary contact
[11:57:19 AM] Satire says: Understood.
[11:57:48 AM] Satire says: You mentioned you think it may be near a city?
[11:58:00 AM] JC says: That's a guess, but I suspect so
[11:58:22 AM] Satire says: Alright, I'll take more time on those.
[12:00:17 PM] JC says: I heard some chatter about symbols embedded in the file screenshot.
[12:00:45 PM] Satire says: Yeah - it it looks like Cr0ybot found the symbol in the roof of the building in the satelite photo.
[12:02:00 PM] JC says: Really? I was only able to match part of it.
[12:02:09 PM] JC says: I will have to follow up, because that is interesting.
[12:02:48 PM] Satire says: It looks fairly close, from the image that Cr0ybot posted.
[12:03:27 PM] JC says: I will have to check my email

[12:04:21 PM] JC says: Hmm.
[12:04:21 PM] Satire says: Any more word on Saul? You sounded kinda suspicious.
[12:04:31 PM] JC says: I still am
[12:04:35 PM] JC says: what do you mean exactly?
[12:04:53 PM] Satire says: You seemed to think that he might not be who he claims. How do you know him, anyway?
[12:05:53 PM] JC says: I wouldnt say I know him, as much as I work with him.
[12:06:09 PM] Satire says: Fair enough. So you're assigned to work with him?
[12:06:12 PM] JC says: He was referred to me after I sent my initial suspicions to the FBI.
[12:06:23 PM] JC says: yes
[12:06:30 PM] Satire says: Ah. And you trust whoever referred you?
[12:06:47 PM] JC says: I dont know who referred me. It's the FBI.
[12:06:54 PM] JC says: I just got a call
[12:07:03 PM] Satire says: What made you contact them in the first place?
[12:07:37 PM] JC says: When I first found this server, some of the stuff on it seemed suspicious. Figured it was my duty to at least send an e-mail to someone.
[12:07:40 PM] JC says: they ignored me at first
[12:08:07 PM] JC says: I kept at it, and then they told me to stop calling
[12:08:12 PM] JC says: things got quiet for a long time
[12:08:14 PM] Satire says: I'm sure they get a lot of folk like that.
[12:08:17 PM] JC says: then Saul contacted me
[12:08:34 PM] JC says: The thing that threw me at first was
[12:08:39 PM] Satire says: Hm. That's all you know him from? Never checked him out, or anything?
[12:08:39 PM] JC says: he doesnt work for the FBI
[12:08:44 PM] Satire says: So who does he work for?
[12:08:45 PM] JC says: he's from the NCS
[12:08:47 PM] Satire says: Ah.
[12:08:55 PM] JC says: I had to assume he was being truthful
[12:09:06 PM] JC says: he seemed to know everything about my case file from talking to the FBI
[12:09:11 PM] JC says: if he was a hoax, how would he know to contact me?
[12:09:18 PM] JC says: And then, there's the echelon tap
[12:09:26 PM] JC says: I mean, how do you fake something like that
[12:09:49 PM] JC says: I'm not saying he isnt who he says he is
[12:09:55 PM] JC says: I'm just saying he makes me uncomfortable
[12:10:16 PM] JC says: something is there that I dont know, and it makes me uneasy

[12:10:20 PM] Satire says: Hm. So do we have any idea what Red Monday actually is? Something bad, I take it.
[12:10:54 PM] JC says: You've seen the pieces yourself. It's unsettling, to say the least.
[12:12:58 PM] Satire says: So what got you poking around these sites in the first place? Doesn't seem like this was a place people wanted others to look.
[12:13:12 PM] JC says: It's not a place normal people have access to.
[12:13:32 PM] Satire says: I take it you're outside the "normal people" category, then?
[12:13:43 PM] JC says: I wouldnt go that far
[12:13:52 PM] JC says: it's more as a virtue of my job, than anything to do with me personally
[12:14:01 PM] Satire says: What is it you do?
[12:14:05 PM] JC says: IT
[12:14:32 PM] Satire says: How did that lead you to this shady server?
[12:15:13 PM] Satire says: (Reached the halfway point on the Red Sea coast)
[12:15:28 PM] JC says: I dont want to get too much into detail on Skype
[12:15:30 PM] JC says: but
[12:15:33 PM] JC says: Have you taken the opportunity to look at the Bash carefully?
[12:15:43 PM] JC says: You'll find more info there

[12:15:46 PM] JC says: I need to go
[12:15:51 PM] Satire says: Good talking with you.
[12:15:56 PM] Satire says: I'll relay the info to the others.

Also, as far as I can tell, he changed his away message to be some identifying information of mine.

50% done looking through the Red Sea...

The Bash? Does he mean the "Born Again Shell"? 'Cause otherwise, it makes no sense to me...

Mmm...perhaps Saul isn't from NCS either. He might be part of a shady organization, higher in the information ladder. One that doesn't even have a name, even.

Also, remember that AQ Kahn used to travel a lot in Africa too, so don't rule out any possibilities regarding Egypt just yet.

I think he is referring to the bash output that flashes quickly across the screen before redirecting to the countdown on red-monday.com.

I wonder what Chang eLog and Embassy Manifest are...

If I recall correctly, JC commented once on his Twitter page that he was repairing a PC over an Embassy and that "linux isn't as cracked up as it's supposed to be" or something along those lines.

Also, take a good look and you'll find the username in that screen. We already know who he is, but it's an interesting fact, nonetheless.

Yeah

Godai Yuhsaku is me.

You can really tell by the h. Since the character the name is based on romanizes as Yusaku.

I guess my connecting via a phone really did press a button.
