If the PM didn't want to make a big deal about the whole alternaverse thing, he'd have played it off when it was first mentioned. If nothing else, it's an interesting side to the game.

And you're right, I was assuming that the POD was in '04. It seems like at some point 9/11 was mentioned in-game, but I could be wrong. I am getting old, after all.

You're probably thinking of this line from JC's second email:

Quote:
It could be the most significant event in 6 years...

We all assumed that it was September 11th. Maybe it was foreshadowing for the fact that something else occurred then.

Then again, I could just be completely off, and the only difference could be that Kerry decided to grow a mustache and people thought it looked decisive.

Unless we get evidence we should be doing otherwise, I think I'll do the same.

Skype is actually a really great program: I don't use any of the other messaging services anymore, and I've converted dozens to using it.

They charge you for outside phonecalls now, but back when they didn't it was a real dream. The price is still low enough to make it worthwhile if you've got a good mic and some bandwidth.

Problem is that it is a bandwidth hog. I run a server and 5 other computers of this network so. There is not much space there for the most part.

I can't really put the cat back in the bag at this point, unfortunately.

I did learn something interesting, though. At about 1AM my time (when I was asleep) JC sent me a message. To give the context, I'll copy my last one to him:

Quote:
[11/6/2007 8:55:30 PM] wkelly42 says: OK. You too
[11/6/2007 8:55:46 PM] wkelly42 says: And sorry about Ohio. We kinda screwed things up for you guys, huh?
[11/6/2007 8:56:05 PM] wkelly42 says: Wink
[12:53:35 AM] JC says: You have absolutely no idea
[12:53:38 AM] JC says: The whole mess in Iraq, I mean geez

So there IS a mess in Iraq. What KIND of mess, who knows. And JC doesn't like President Kerry at all.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
> ECHELON CALL LOG: http://www.red-monday.com/phonelogs/99863.mp3

> Pub. L. No. 103-414, 108 Stat. 4279
> INCID: 92547 Date: 10/14 Time: 10:45 PM
> Call: 206-279-1586

That phone number is in Seattle, according to the reverse lookup at whitepages.com. It's an unlisted number.

And I just thought of something -- I thought JC wasn't letting Saul know about the satellite picture yet. How come in the chat log he already knows what JC is talking about?

http://blogs.msdn.com/fontblog/archive/2006/04/05/569389.aspx

as if we didn't have enough ambiguity.

The writing of Arabic numbers by G. G. Neill Wright in 1952.

The symbol was written by a Papal Chancery hand of the 15th century.

Anyone on a university computer that can access JSTOR?

Thats a review of the book from the British Journal of Educational Studies.

Amazon page for the book. Not available though. heh

Antiqbook.com has a copy though.

WRIGHT, G.G.NEILL The writing of Arabic numerals.
First edition, London, University of London Press, 1952. A very pleasant copy in the original cloth, gilt, with the lightly used dust-wrapper. Inscribed by the author, and with a couple of slips and labels in his hand (one initialled) loosely inserted.
AUD 150.00 = appr. US$ 112.50

Wow, this is awesome. I'd dropped this when it got too close to "reality", plus the curtain-dropping issues, but this is looking much better now. Kerry's president? As long as we don't have to mess too much with any real-life bad guys, I'm in... have to start catching up again!

For your chats w/ JC, I think you can still ask him some "common knowledge" questions while still playing in his reality. Just say you don't really pay attention to the news, have a bad memory, have been out camping in the mountains for a long time, went on a bender, had finals, had mono, ... whatever. For the Bush/Kerry confusion, I'd probably try to convince him that I was drunk/high/off meds/Nereus paid me to do it, then apologize profusely and agree that Nereus is a sneaky bastard. Twisted Evil *duck*

It'd be really nice to know if JC's "important thing that happened 6 years ago" is the same as our 9-11-01. Of course it'd be even better to know exactly where the POD is, but getting that out of him directly could take a ton of direct questioning and blatant "I am not from your reality"-ness, and the chat logs give me the impression that freaking JC out that much is not in our best interests.

Heh, i'm tempted to drive the 30 miles to the nearest copy.

Maybe if I have time this weekend, I'll have to ask my coworker about security at that campus library. heh

Thought the same, I was about to leave it. Nice detail, we'll have to wait and see what other things have changed. Well, I'm off, I've got a physics exam tomorrow, so don't expect me round these parts 'til tomorrow. I'm downloading skype too, just in case.
