I've requested the Writing of Arabic Numerals through OhioLink, which means I won't be getting it for at least a week, maybe more. I'll let you all know what I find, if I find it in time...

Thought the same, I was about to leave it. Nice detail, we'll have to wait and see what other things have changed. Well, I'm off, I've got a physics exam tomorrow, so don't expect me round these parts 'til tomorrow. I'm downloading skype too, just in case.

I kinda wonder if this isn't why the PM did this. To keep us interested and active.

Sorry.

There's one at Ohio State too... maybe they'll send me that one?

Lol no biggie.

I wasn't looking forward to scanning through 452 pages of a 50 year old book, trying to find that darn symbol.

Enjoy heh.

At this point, I say a PM that is actually paying attention and adapting to the players (as opposed to one who says, "these guys just don't get my game, screw dis" and abandons it) gets a brownie. Brownie

The Symbol... again

It might not be necessary to look at the book after all (though this really doesn't give us any new info):

Quote:
I found this symbol in G.G. Neill Wright's 1952 book The Writing of Arabic Numerals. It was written by a Papal Chancery hand of the 15th century and may plausibly be interpreted as 0, 3, 6, 7, or 8.

............0.........................3...........................6............................7.............................8...........

Looks like the extra stuff I got from the satellite image is decoration? I'm almost positive the extra stuff is supposed to be in our symbol.

Wow, this is awesome. I'd dropped this when it got too close to "reality", plus the curtain-dropping issues, but this is looking much better now. Kerry's president? As long as we don't have to mess too much with any real-life bad guys, I'm in... have to start catching up again!

For your chats w/ JC, I think you can still ask him some "common knowledge" questions while still playing in his reality. Just say you don't really pay attention to the news, have a bad memory, have been out camping in the mountains for a long time, went on a bender, had finals, had mono, ... whatever. For the Bush/Kerry confusion, I'd probably try to convince him that I was drunk/high/off meds/Nereus paid me to do it, then apologize profusely and agree that Nereus is a sneaky bastard. Twisted Evil *duck*

It'd be really nice to know if JC's "important thing that happened 6 years ago" is the same as our 9-11-01. Of course it'd be even better to know exactly where the POD is, but getting that out of him directly could take a ton of direct questioning and blatant "I am not from your reality"-ness, and the chat logs give me the impression that freaking JC out that much is not in our best interests.

I talked to JC he knows I did not make you all do this. Blaming me is just going to get him mad, and I may have to pull my water gun out on you.

Totally Nereus, pull that water gun man! Pop a splat on these fools! Anywho I'm asking JC about "His" reality in a playing along kinda way. I simply asked him how "kerry" was doing in the whitehouse and how the war in iraq was going...if it's a close enough correlation to our "reality" than finding info won't be a problem

He didn't seem terribly please to be answering stupid questions, but it was worth it: some interesting facts about how things got different.

Summation:
    September 11th happened.
The plane that was supposed to hit the pentagon never made it.
The fourth plane was shot down by the air force.
John Kerry is president, and is at a 79% disapproval rating.
Al Qaeda did it, and Bin Ladin still hasn't been caught.

[7:26:37 PM] Satire says: Quick question: you mentioned that six years ago there was an event that might be on the same scale as Red Monday. Which one were you referring to?
[7:27:03 PM] JC says: ?
[7:27:18 PM] Satire says: Your second email, way back when.
[7:27:19 PM] JC says: Isnt it obvious
[7:27:30 PM] JC says: yes I know what you mean
[7:27:51 PM] Satire says: I guess I'm just wondering what sort of scale we're talking about.
[7:29:22 PM] Satire says: Did I lose you?
[7:29:38 PM] JC says: no I'm just trying to figure out what you're asking
[7:30:03 PM] Satire says: I mean, which six year old event are you comparing Red Monday to?
[7:30:38 PM] JC says: I wasnt comparing it to anything
[7:30:56 PM] JC says: I was speculating that it might be something big, and something bad
[7:31:07 PM] Satire says: Ah. Then why the six-year timeframe?
[7:31:20 PM] JC says: on the scale of 9/11

[7:31:23 PM] Satire says: Gotcha.
[7:31:38 PM] JC says: You know, when terroists flew plans into the Twin Towers and the Capitol Building?
[7:31:41 PM] Satire says: That's pretty bad, then.
[7:31:44 PM] Satire says: No, I'm with you.
[7:32:29 PM] JC says: and the other one went down in Arlington, which they said was on it's way to the Pentagon?
[7:32:50 PM] JC says: you know?
[7:32:51 PM] Satire says: Didn't one hit the Pentagon?
[7:33:00 PM] JC says: the most significant event of the 21st century, to date?
[7:33:33 PM] JC says: is it just "I dont know anything" day with everyone, all the sudden?
[7:33:44 PM] Satire says: Sorry, been one of those weeks on my end.
[7:33:58 PM] Satire says: Getting that a lot?
[7:34:12 PM] JC says: more than I'd like to recount
[7:36:44 PM] Satire says: The one that went down in Arlington, they thought it was on the way to the Pentagon?
[7:36:49 PM] Satire says: I hadn't heard that.
[7:37:24 PM] JC says: Well, considering that I had to have a huge argument with TWO people over who the current president of the United States was... this doesn't exactly suprise me.
[7:38:04 PM] Satire says: Wasn't there a fourth plane, come to think of it?
[7:39:09 PM] JC says: Yeah, flight 93. shot down by the air force
[7:39:37 PM] JC says: they said it was headed for the white house

[7:39:54 PM] Satire says: That could've caused a lot of damage.
[7:40:27 PM] Satire says: I always wondered how they knew to take out that plane.
[7:40:36 PM] JC says: yeah
[7:41:12 PM] JC says: *shrugs*
[7:41:21 PM] JC says: I've always wondered how the whole freaking thing happened in the first place
[7:41:37 PM] JC says: But, recently, I think I'm starting to get a clearer idea why
[7:41:51 PM] Satire says: They were a bit evasive about it. Who ended up taking the blame?
[7:42:01 PM] JC says: ?
[7:43:14 PM] Satire says: I mean, who did we figure did it?
[7:43:34 PM] JC says: o.o
[7:43:36 PM] JC says: are you kidding me?
[7:43:39 PM] JC says: you, too?
[7:43:52 PM] Satire says: I just remember so many theories flying around at the time.
[7:43:55 PM] JC says: seriously, if you dont know, just look it up on wikipedia
[7:44:11 PM] JC says: I'm so tired of playing 20 questions about things that everyone knows already
[7:44:23 PM] Satire says: Al Quadia?
[7:45:49 PM] JC says: Qaeda
[7:45:52 PM] Satire says: There we go.
[7:47:32 PM] Satire says: Sucks that we lost track of Bin Ladin, too.
[7:48:51 PM] JC says: Well the way that "Special K" has been running the show, what else do you expect?
[7:49:16 PM] Satire says: You don't seem too pleased with him.
[7:50:02 PM] JC says: Me and 79% of the rest of the country.

[7:50:21 PM] Satire says: Is his dissaproval rating that high now? Wow.
[7:50:38 PM] Satire says: Record high.
[7:51:15 PM] Satire says: Really though, what's so bad about him? Anybody in his position would be having a tough time.
[7:51:53 PM] JC says: http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/archives/2007/11/kerry_disaproval_highest_on_record/
[7:52:45 PM] JC says: dont get me started
[8:05:31 PM] Satire says: But seriously, what should he be doing differently?
[8:06:58 PM] JC says: not serving in office?
[8:07:12 PM] Satire says: But what would you expect someone else to do better?
[8:08:36 PM] JC says: Getting a handle on Afghanistan, would be nice. Doing something about North Korea waving it's nuclear missiles at Japan would be good, too. Oh yeah, and gas prices...
[8:09:01 PM] Satire says: Fair enough.
[8:10:04 PM] Satire says: Alright, I should probably head out, but good chatting with you. I'll let you know if I find anything else.
[8:10:15 PM] JC says: sure thing

The Morse code

I'm wondering if this should actually read "look in the drop point."

Yeah - that's what would make sense. Which is why I did it over and over. It's definitely got two P's, and the Y is a little dicey, but it is certainly not an 'O".

Whatever JC uses to make the morse code either sucks or he intentionally garbles it.

I thought it would be a good idea to write the correct morse code.
Here it is

I sent him an email about the chat logs yesterday afternoon. Haven't gotten anything back from him yet.

Of course, that's a bad link. But if you replace Kerry with Bush, you get a good link. hmmmmm

Folks, I'm not really clear on where the disconnect between the players and the PM is. The PM has made it abundantly clear that JC is not just pulling our leg, and actually lives in this fictional timeline. It does not accomplish anything to irritate the character by repeatedly trying to convince him that he is wrong. He is not wrong. That's where he lives. It's part of the game.

More importantly: you will not convince him he is wrong. I'm confident that you have all read a book where the characters are in a world with a different government, or a corporation produces a product that doesn't exist. We take it as a given that these things are true for the characters. We don't get worked up over the fact that Wackycola.com doesn't work in our web browser while Pepsicola.com does. If we ever had the opportunity to talk to characters from those novels it wouldn't be in our best interest to try to convince them that Wackycola isn't real. They're not real, either.

JC has made it clear from the first conversation that he thinks the players are playing a prank on him, and that he knows John Kerry is the president. Take the hint: he gave you an "out." Laugh it off, tell him you were joking, and move on with the game.

I agree with Satire.

If the PM does want the idea of two different realities to be important IG, he'll make sure it comes up.
