Tron 2.0 live!

I am quite frankly surprised there hasn't been more discussion about this to date. The Tron 2.0 website at http://www.tron20.net went live recently, and it looks like it's pretty rich with new content. Don't yet know whether there's a full-blown ARG happening here or not, but is anyone exploring this??

There's a little thread about Tron 2.0 in the News & Rumors section of ARGN. Here's a quick summary of what's been found so far:

Screen App: Updated with a chat log with the hackers about something called gsamsa, as well as various other bits of information, such as source code and screenshots from the upcoming Tron game.

fCON Website: Mostly the same as before, but now there's a blue smiley in the lower-right corner that leads to a backdoor into fCON's network. (Press "B" to get in; A and C lead to dead ends.)

Router 1: The entrypoint into the network, hacked by G-Nyus.

PDA: Greetings from the hackers; a sort of help file for people new to the game.

Cell Phone: Message 1 mentions the screen app that the hackers are using, saying that fCON has hacked into it, and that typing "a5d4t" while the app is running will do an IP trace on anyone using the screen app at the time. Going to the screen app and typing "a5d4t" will cause a message from the hackers to pop up, saying that fCON's hacking was unsuccessful and giving you the access code to one of the locked files in Terminal 1, "rd98dfer." Message 2 states, "The mouse has run up the clock. Call me ASAP." Message 3 refers to the nearly-complete demo and upcoming beta-test of some program, maybe gsamsa. Message 4 is a generic "you suck and you're not getting away with this" message from the hackers.

Terminal 1: The open folder contains the screen app, which you can also get from the PDA or by waiting long enough on the fCON website. The first locked folder can be unlocked with the code from the screen app; you get a Tron 2.0 wallpaper in four different resolutions behind it. The second locked folder is unaccessible at the moment.

Terminal 2: According to the title bar, this terminal should contain server logs (which could lead us to the correct password for Router 2), but it is corrupted by the earlier hacking.

Terminal 3: This terminal contains screenshots similar to those on the screen app.

Router 2: Access denied without a username or password. The username is confirmed to be "gsamsa," but the password is as yet unknown.

My opinion so far is that this is more of a promotional game than an ARG, but this promotional game is a hell of a lot more interesting than, say, Minority Report's was.

Rob

when I see "gsamsa", maybe it's the ex-lit major in me, but I immediately think of Gregor Samsa, protagonist of Kafka's THE METAMORPHOSIS. Since gsamsa is apparently a valid screen name at one point in the protogame, has anyone tried various passwords relating to Kafka and/or METAMORPHOSIS, such as "cockroach", (or, technically, if you believe this website, more of a "dung beetle" --> http://www.in.net/~ddusseau/gregor.html) "insect", "salesman", "Franz", "Grete", or the like?

Summary thumbnail of THE METAMORPHOSIS can be found at:

http://endeavor.med.nyu.edu/lit-med/lit-med-db/webdocs/webdescrips/kafka98-des-.html

It might also be worth noting that Kafka's traditional literary themes -- that of a solitary man trapped inside a dehumanizing "machine" of bureaucracy and slowly suffering the death of the soul as a result of such bureaucracy's uncaring neglect -- could also serve to nicely parallel some of the themes indirectly explored in the first TRON movie.

one more thing...the comments in message3.wav off the "cell phone" icon about an "actual bug" and "not understanding the irony" lead me to believe that I am on the right track with this Kafka thing.

No luck with any of my suggested p/w's to date, though.

I hope I'm not repeating a post I send (forgive a nubie if I am) but the user name thorne works as well. He is the security officer who has been trapped in the system. However he wasn't "scanned" in properly so he has gone insane. I think the corrupt images of a person that you can see is Thorne. I just can't figure out the password for his account.

Dunno if this helps.

I just ran across the unifiction site and started playing tron 2.0 myself Smile I also sent spacebass some rumors about a mac game that has been around for about a month now and he is supposed to add it to the rumors list I think . I just joined tonight so I can help everyone out too. I think the wav about the mouse running up the clock is not what it seems. To me it seems like the guy says "der fledermouse has ran up the clock - call me asap" I had to play it a lot of times to hear him say that , but it may be usefull to someone . I hope I spelled it right. Its german and means "the bat" as well as being mentioned in the "tick" cartoon series. If anyone finds this useful please write here as I will check daily here .

Since it has not been mentioned yet, I used the tell a friend feature on the tron site to see what I would be sent - here it is , minus me switching names to user Smile

Well, I think the game is in semidormancy right now. I signed up at the site for the "update" newsletter, and aside from the previously mentioned two emails, I have heard precisely nothing from the fine folks at fCon for quite some time now. Also, the screen app actually succeeding in literally crashing my computer (as opposed to just PRETENDING to crash it for cool hax0r effect) one out of every three times I use it. That's pretty impressive, since I have WinXP which is pretty damn resilient. Rolling Eyes

So, I guess probably no, a Tron forum may not yet be warranted until we see more action on this front. Anyone agree? Disagree?

My cousin says she broke thru router 2's security and saw a lot of files, but can't remember how she did it as when she did it, she was talking to me and forgot the password Smile She is now typing up her collection of possible clues to the game and emailing me them and I will post further when we both can get past router 2 as the password she told me did not work for me.
Trallyus
p.s. she dont remember if she looked at any of them either she was so excited at being ahead of me in the game Sad
