[SPEC] Is Slusho an energy drink?
And not some sort of frozen drink?

I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but I'll try anyway. When I heard of Slusho, I'd always thought of it as some sort of Slurpee-like drink. But now with all the new stuff (Tagruato, Vernon MacDooble) I'm starting to wonder if it's actually an energy drink like Red Bull. There's the baseball player who scared the Dragons off their bench, Vernon feeling like he could destroy the cosmos where his toe used to be, and finally Hawk who chugged a Slusho then ran a marathon. Well, watched A&E run a Soprano's marathon. Same thing. There's also the senior citizens that the Slusho! Smilers! danced for.

I did a search for "energy drink" but all I found was the forum about Slusho being actually marketed. It may be common knowledge among the sensible members, but it just occurred to me.

Seems like a false dichotomy to suggest that it must be one, excluding the other. Well, why not both? You're right, the descriptions we get seem to say it's got some psychoactive properties! Perceptions are changed, etc.

But slusho.jp also says that the DSI must be kept frozen to preserve its freshness. And the drink, after all, is called SLUSHo, which implies that it's...slushy.

So, again: why not both?

I was thinking the same thing - it sounds like an energy drink. I agree with human - it's both! We know that it's a slurpee type of drink because of Alias, but mostly because of all the info. from Tagruato, Slusho!, and those Vernon whoever 'reviews' - it's got to be kept cold.

Given its apparent effects, though, if it isn't an "energy drink" (according to some official beverage classification scheme), it would at least make sense to market it as one.

Also, I hate to say it, but doesn't this whole thing strike you all as Cocoon meets Godzilla? And, obviously, it's the Cocoon part I'm having problems with. Let's hope Steve Guttenberg isn't in it. Maybe it's a giant Wilford Brimley!

I never caught that bit about Hawk watching a "Sopranos" marathon after chugging Slusho...but you're right Phaeton -- might indicate yet another side effect of Slusho: it'll keep you up overnight.

"Overnight"...where have I heard THAT before? Laughing

Brain freeze

The only reason why I thought it wouldn't be a frozen drink is because Hawk chugged it, and you know what what happens when you drink slurpees too fast. Although, if he had it when it wasn't frozen, maybe the "psychoactive" properties were lessened. Although it could have been the bowl, of course.

I just want to thank all who've posted so far. I was half expecting to get yelled at and told to search better next time.

Here is some evidence from Investor News - Slusho! Ices Competitors:

Quote:

The frozen flavor mixture, which has become the second most popular frozen beverage in Asia over the past two years, plans to increase Asian production and seek out distributors in Western markets in the near future.
...
Distribution of the company's six combinable "happy drink" flavors has prompted an increase in its Asian workforce and production, a response to the mounting demand for the drink.
...
The company is currently working on the Slusho! Sea Freeze, a frozen pop that will be available for purchase in your local market and will contain the company's healthy special ingredient. The product will compliment the Make Your Own Slusho! kit already on market shelves.
...
As the company completes comprehensive testing on their wonder ingredient, which is expected to reveal unmatched health benefits, stock prices in Slusho! are bound to continue to rise

and this from Subsidiaries - Slusho

Quote:

Hip adult drinkers have begun concocting deliciously intoxicating alcoholic mix drinks starring Slusho!

Sounds like a Margarita, or maybe Red Bull and Vodka which was popular for a while.
