[PUZZLE/TRAILHEAD]Alice Is Lost!
Coming Autumn 07

Found via post on Perplexorum by Eric Harshburger. Title page is here and sign-up page here, including rather lovely poster Smile

lhall has set up a Facebook group (not sure whether this link will work, but search groups for Alice is Lost!). In a first discussion post for the group Eric said:

Online game' might be the best way to describe it. It will have some ARG elements to it; there will be a story to some extent, but mainly it will be about PUZZLES. Lots of puzzles. 'Hand-crafted' puzzles of the type many of you probably have grown accustomed to while playing Perplexcity.

He's also exploring a small registration fee. For more info see discussion there.

Just to add a note of interest here, if you click on the poster it takes you to a page that begins your story.

And before you spend too much time trying to decifer the text on that image, CTRL+A is your friend.

and in the facebook group, Eric has posted in a discussion thread... some interesting points:
* contemplating a one-time registration fee, thinks around $25US
* over 1 year in length, no longer than 2
* 'virtual' puzzle cards, not physical
* possible prize for the winner, but not in the books at this point
* possible appearance of swag and auxiliary things to purchase during the course of the game
* hint at a 'meta puzzle'

the facebook group is not official, and he won't 'hang around' there making it seem so. It's just a fan-made facebook group, already with 44 members

ooh! I'm convinced that wasn't there yesterday.

If anyone fancies boning up on their Alice knowledge a book worth having is
The Annotated Alice edited by Martine Gardner (Definiteve Edition). It has the original text of Wonderland and Looking Glass and Tenniel's beautiful pen and ink illustrations together with detailed annotations that are in themselves amusing.

aliendial,

Thank you for signing up to receive updates about the upcoming "mystery of puzzles", Alice Is Lost! There is still a lot of work to be done, but the first step was to make sure that the email script to send updates was working properly.

There has been a very good response to my initial announcement of Alice Is Lost!, and I can only hope that the 'pre-registrants' list continues to grow.

A couple of people have already established some community focused groups concerning Alice Is Lost!

A Facebook group:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2359653463

A Perplexorum section:
http://perplexorum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=69

This is very encouraging, and I will do my best to satisfy the enthusiasm. If others establish similar groups, please do let me know. I like to keep up with who is discussing AiL! where. And if you have any questions about what content (text, images, etc) you can use from the Alice Is Lost! website, do not hesitate to ask.

No doubt, you have already seen the first of what I hope will be many 'teaser' pages (you HAVE seen the 'In the Library' page, no?) I'm am planning to officially launch Alice Is Lost! in early Fall of 2007, and you can expect more such teasers before then.

Keep your eyes open! Get the word out!

Alice Is Lost!

Who will find her?

Sincerely,

The Herald

jigsaw

If you click on the image of the cup of coffee on page 2 of the prologue, it takes you to a jigsaw puzzle of the game's poster- http://www.aliceislost.com/jigsaw.html

Not sure if this is a just a gimmick to keep us busy till the game launch, or if secrets are revealed upon completion.

Nothing happened when I completed it -- any chance I missed something?

And now there's even an application to add the logo to your Facebook profile. My little Alice empty outline is firmly in place, it's like being given a small Brownie

Didn't see anything much happen when I finished the puzzle- I think it was just a small diversion.

Facebook app

Also, what's the name of the facebook app? I can't seem to find it.

I also doubt it has anything to do with "Alice is Lost", but this facebook group seemed a little off...

Probably not related, though.

I wouldn't call this an application, but a snippet of code. Go to http://www.aliceislost.com/icon.html where there are instructions on how to embed their official logo into another web page. It is not specific to Facebook.

Offices in Tulgey Wood, he says?

Googled, it comes up with http://www.tulgeywood.org/

It's an animal sanctuary!

As well as the Jabberwocky connection, of course
