BOSTON WHAT WHAT!!!

it would be cool to trek to NYC for the opening though. I'm sure my boss would totally understand me leaving the state to potentially be destroyed by a fictional monster.

not.

Is the premiere going to be in NYC? I would make the trip up - only 3 hours or so southward...

Sweet Home, Chicago! Well, Champaign, to be more precise. but, Chicago works. So, does Indy, St. Louis...

That's Champaign for ya' - "A Great Place to Leave."

Close enough to NYC...

....to witness destruction, but far enough away to be safe - Central NJ (near major interstates!). I'm usually geek(ette) enough to take 1/2 day off from work and catch the matinee, to beat the crowds (and be with the other geeks). I will definitely do the same, possibly talking my sister into letting me take my nephew, too, though that would put me in PA, since I work near the PA/NJ border in our lovely state's capital....

I'm not averse (at this point) to multiple viewings, though, having sat through ROTK multiple times, drooling over Aragorn's hotness (woo BABY!), but I digress. Wink If the movie lives up to the hype, I'll def go many time, tinny, many time...

Northwest OR here, however, as much as I want to see this flick, I will most likely avoid opening night, because 1) I hate huge crowds of stupid people and 2) I just don't like most people and 3) people are noisy, stupid, stinky and inconsiderate and 4) there will be roving packs of unsupervised, vacuous teenagers everywhere being obnoxious and entitled and repeating the word 'like' ad nauseum, and 5) I can't stand tons of stupid mouth-breathers, coughing, farting, burping, snorking, crinkling plastic, sucking straws on empty cups of soda while their kids climb all over the place, chat and cry.

I really, really, really hate the cinema. I can't see blowing $21 on a ticket, a small popcorn and a bottle of Dasani so I can spend the next two hours being annoyed by the people around me. If I do go, it's usually well past opening night, and the latest show possible so I can enjoy the movie in its entirety and not have it disrupted by stupid people. When I saw transformers, we were the only ones in the theatre.

The *only* time I ever went to a crowded cinema and had a good, relaxing 12 hours was during a Star Trek movie marathon. Sure, some guys were dressed as borg and were pointing their lazers onto my butt and boobs, but who cares? They were quiet in their snacking and they were nice and refreshing to talk to during breaks. That was fun. I wish they'd do that around here--before the release of the new ST movie.

i'm sure wherever you are all from the US, you'll all be sitting down with XL popcorn watching in amazement the mysteries unfold. Whereas i will be oblivious to the onscreen activity while i play out my day to day life until the release date here. Crying or Very sad

Awwwww..... Take a flight out, I'm sure someone will let you bunk with 'em. I'm *sure* this movie will be worth the price of a transatlantic flight. Laughing

not that much into it. I wouldn't go through a flight like that again.

I'll just wait... it'll be worth it.

I kind of feel bad because you will come back here and all of us will be talking about how suprisingly this huge lion with the head of cthulu and the tail of a whale attacked new york and you'll be sad cause you didn't get to see it first hand!

Speaking of time zones....

.. you guys on the west coast will still be behind those of us in the East, too. I don't like huge crowds, either, which is why I take 1/2 day off from work and hit the matinee - less people and the ones that are there are there for the movie, and not socializing.

Keeno - you sound like my oldest daughter - we went to the UK in 2004 to visit my cousin in Halifax (he and his wife were expecting their first child) in January. Flight was a bit bumpy, but to me, no worse than riding in a bus with bad shocks. My girls were holding onto each other like they were in a life raft, and here I am, stretched out on the seat behind them, sleeping (we took a red eye and I had to drive from Heathrow up to Halifax). She vowed never again to fly cross the pond, because of the turbulence. Me, I'll fly whenever - I love it!
