[SPEC]translated trailers.....
German differs from English, maybe others do as well

i used the search function of this forum and didnt find it so.......

in the english trailer the camera guy gets asked:

"Think we can see something from the roof?"

the first not english trailer released was the german one
(there where some german relations till now, the pic of the german christmas market in that photobucket for eg)

in the german version he asks exactly:

"willst du es vom dach aus filmen"

that means

"do you want to film it from the roof"

no way for a interpretation into "we can see something from the roof"

i dont want to hang into something not to important,
but with the backround of some slusho seven story,
i think there is a huge difference between

"we see something from the roof"
and
"want to film IT"

like they really already know what it is

the studios doing the audiotranslations, often get an extra storyline additionally to the transcipts with the translated text
to arrange the spoken text on special characteristics for every country

for eg lots of texas jokes get translated into bavarian
style in germany, because the american based joke will make no sense or bring somebody to laugh unless u have an american backround

maybe other languaged versions of the trailer are out there,
spanish france and so on

so who can check it out for that languages and differences in the meaning of the spoken words???

the trailer is showing over here in germany
in the normal rotation in the cinemas

not depending on what movie, company or what else

edit to add tag and subject description ~rose

This is one of those great insights into a different culture that I learn from playing ARGs. Smile

I think the idea of finding translations of trailers showing in different countries is a good one.

Wow, I haven't seen this German trailer yet, thanks! (I think, I have to visit cinema again Smile)

Really interesting notes about various cultural backgrounds.
I found the german dubbing a little disappointing, not too authentic as original.

The question about the roof is really very significant for the whole story, because in German version they really know that they can see "it" from the roof.

"it" and "something" are pretty interchangeable to me.

They're just talking about "what's going on", as in "what" the news reporter is talking about. Remember, the news cast doesn't just say it's an earthquake, but rather Earthquake? with a question mark, as though something else might be going on.

I'm pretty sure when he said "it" he was just referring to what the general disturbance the news person what talking about.

I've seen the trailer online and I found the fact, the name of the movie (at least in German film distribution) perhaps is not 1-18-08. Because at the end of the trailer there is not the date "1-18-08", but the message "Im Kino 2008" (release: 01-31-08 according imdb). So whether it has also in US distribution another title?..

So if the movie would had the name "1-18-08", it would have the same name also in German version. (OK, sometimes German distributers give really weird or stupid titles from unknown reason).

Btw, here is the German trailer, check it out.

(The beginning of the party with "Überraschung!" ("surprise!") is too long, imho, the word has 4 syllables, hehe)

I suspect what you heard was 'in kinos' which would be 'in theaters', or 'in theaters 2008'.
No title clue, just a more generic date.
What URL is shown in all these foreign release trailers?

Edit: having watched the trailer now, I see it in fact says "In Kino" and that the URL wasn't used.

For those of us with appalling language abilities, could someone transcribe/translate the German trailer?

I just watched the trailer
Im from germany my english is not that good but
it seems that there is nothing special about it
It is normal that they translate things not very well.
I often saw translations like
"I know him since high school."
and in germany they say
"Ich kenn ihn ziemlich gut!"
which means
"I know him very well"

OK, people, here is the script (well, "heard script", so perhaps is here something misheard). If you find some mistakes or my mishearings, please correct me.

And please don't flame me if I haven't recognized (ore misrecognized) somebody on a party, just say and I'll correct it Smile

Different texts than in English trailer are italic.
And: my English is miserable, sorry for it.

Blond Girl (Jamie?) - "Er kommt. Leute, er ist da, los geht's, na kommt schon"
"He's comming. People, he's here, lets start, come on!"

Everyone - "Überraschung!"
"SURPRISE!!"

Marlena - "Wofür is'n das?"
"What is this for?"

Cameraman - "Das ist für Rob. Sag ihm was, bevor er wegfährt"
"It's for Rob. Say something to him before he leaves."

Jamie - "Rob ist ja wahnsinnig. Ich werde Dich vermissen"
"Rob's crazy (or: awesome). I gonna miss him."

Beth - "Rob, viel Spass in Japan"
"Rob, have fun in Japan."

11Dollar Guy - "Du schuldest mir elf Dollar"
"You owe me eleven dollars."

Asian Guy - "Wie willst Du nur ohne Rob klar kommen? Er ist ja sowas wie Dein bester Kumpel"
"How can you cope with this without Rob? He's like your best buddy."

Cameraman - "Ja ich weiss. Hey, wie soll ich ohne Dich klar kommen"
"Yes, I know. Hey, how can I cope with this without you?"

Rob - "Was weiss ich, ich bin Dein bester Kumpel"
"I don't know, I'm like your best buddy."

Monster - "Rrooooooooaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr!"
(Well, ehm, original) Smile

Somebody - "Was war das für ein Geräusch?"
"What was that noise?"

Girl - "War das irgend ein Tier?"
"Was ist an animal?"

People- "Hast Du das auch gehört?" "Entspannt Euch, es ist alles..."
"Have you heard it?" "Relax, it's just a..."

News Reporter - "Immer mehr Anrufe gehen in der Redaktion von NY1 ein. Da war ein gewaltiges, dröhnendes Donnergeräusch, das v..."
"More and more Phone calls reach the New York One editorial office. There was an enormous drumming noise like thunder, it was...."

Rob - "Willst Du das vom Dach aus filmen?"
"Do you want to film it from the roof?"

Somebody - "Was für ein Tier ist denn so gross? Echt grass"
"What animal is so huge? Very disturbing"

Black Guy - "Er sieht gewaltig aus. Wie im Leben"
"He looks huge. Like in life"

Cameraman - "Hättest Du die Stadt früher verlassen sollen, hm?"
"Looks like you should have left town a little bit earlier, doesn't it."

People - "Weg hier, schneller, schneller!"
"Run away, quickly, quickly, quickly!"

Girl - "Was ist das? ..."
"What is it?"

Guy - "Ich hab's gesehen... riesig"
"I saw it, ... huge!" (Sorry people, really sorry, I cannot understand the first word...)

Guy - "hat jemand John gesehen?"
"Has anyone seen John?"

Girl: "Ich bin verrückt!"
"I'm insane..."

11-Dollar Guy: "Das wird der beste Abend aller Zeiten"
"It will be the best evening ever"

Thanks, and yes, it could be "Beben". The sound quality of German trailer isn't that good. I've to see it in cinema.
