Accomplishment Tokens
alternative Letimarks

I am writing to ask if there are any ARGs or puzzle-based games that give out realworld items for accomplishing certain things in game.

Perplex City had those little buttons (letimarks), I think if you beat Turok on the hardest setting you got a badge, and I remember a fantasy football site a few years ago that gave out keychains to sucessful players. So my question is if there is anything like this out there now.

It is probably the ex-Eagle Scout in me, but I have always thought that its a really neat to get some kind of item to signify that you have accomplished something. In addition to having the priviledge of the laurels, they can be a fun momento. Something to make you say, "Wow, killing all those dinosaurs with next to no ammo was really a pain in my butt."

Eldritch Errors is giving out Challenge Coins to people who participate in each chapter. Is that the sort of thing you're talking about?

That kind of thing, but more for completing a puzzle or group of them. Not just something you get in the mail. Although that kind of thing is also very neat.

I'm not sure that it's quite what you're on about, but people who took part in the Amy Greenford thing (to launch the latest Jasper Fforde book) got a signed postcard when it was all over. I don't know if everyone who took part got one, or just some who did certain things, but that was a cool bit of mail Very Happy

In Who Is Benjamin Stove, people who solved puzzles or discovered significant milestones received a piece of Ye Olde Random Crappe Darby Family Heirlooms. This was in addition to the end game poster which anyone could receive by signing Ben's online manifesto.

Has everyone who sent a SASE gotten a coin or at least a return package?

I haven't recieved anything yet, but I procrastinated and sent in my envelope kinda late (only about 4-5 days before the next chapter/book got going). I think most of the people who sent in envelopes earlier got responses.

Art of the Heist gave out these great pins shaped in the logo of Nisha's detective agency.

Sammeeeees got a T-shirt from Peeps during the first game.
And there were chips from Last Call Poker Graveyard games (and many were sent out to those who could not travel to one of the live event locations).

SWAG is kewl, but not my primary motivation for immersing myself in an ARG. Tokens for accomplishments (i.e. prizes) makes some games more competative. It's fun to exchange memorbilia. And the museum has been fun to help organize for ARGFests.
