FTTM; you've made me feel better; all these clever puppies are making me feel slow, old *and* jaded.

The reason I came here was to catch up on clues. I found this site through the 1.18.08.blogspot page.

I don't want to disrupt the flow of information with too much chatter; I am enjoying the benefits of the hard-work (and intrepid snooping) of others, So I shall try to keep out of most discussions... no matter how much I enjoy a nice chat.

You have to also account for the fact that the clues don't come very often in this particular campaign, so there's a lot of D/T for the players to sit around and chat (and to create random, totally OT threads to annoy regulars).

I suppose having all of us lurkers appear is a direct side effect of an extremely successful marketing ploy that challenged the ARGers, but also drew dorks like me in to ride on their coattails. I think you'll be stuck with us until 1.22(ish).08 (have to account for some post-movie chatter, congratulatory notes to those whose theories were right, etc... ).

You're right, HerO. If the clues were pouring in, there'd be no time for idle speculation...
Anyhow, it's good to have another old 'un lurking around.

Nurse, where's my cocoa?

I admit I have been a tad cynical, but some things do annoy me.

I constantly find people restating opinions that were discussed in middle of other threads. Since I've read that I thought it was obvious to people. This leads people to make threads discussing what I view as already discussed. I then tend to act cynical.

The amount of [humor] threads have gone down, but I must admit, for a while there were so many it really started to get old.

As for gamejackers, it's a love-hate relationship. Without them, we would have nothing to do a lot of the time as this is a slow-progressing ARG.

Ah well, I'll try to do better, sorry rose.

(P.S. I'm not sorry about people who can't be bothered to skim through the threads on the first page to see if their title is reflected in any others, i.e. tagruato threads and new picture threads. That should be obvious)

P.S. I'm not sure if this is a big deal, but I would like to see more wasteful threads hidden or locked. No need to ban, but they clog up the forum. You should know what I'm reffering too (not all threads, but ones spamming like the person who pretended to be Jamie Lascano).

The mods (I can't mod this one, I play in other areas) tend to allow threads to fall off the bottom - as long as people don't respond to pointless threads or repeat threads then they disappear - especially in high traffic sub-forums like this one. If it's a duplicate thread and there's a more appropriate place for the discussion to go then one post by someone with a link to that place makes things clear. Locking is the last last resort. rose is a thread goddess with the deftest of touches and sees all, fear not Wink

Now, see, this isn't what I meant. I'm really really glad that all the 1-18-08 players are here and I hope you stay around. I don't feel stuck with you at all. I just was hoping we might think about how our impatience with the game might be reflected in the way we were talking to each other (and I include myself in that...anyone can see me get snippy now and then) because, I guess, that is what I notice when I'm reading the threads.

I wanted to hear what other players had to say and how they feel about this subforum.

Also, I hear what Kraker is saying about locking threads... sorry on that one, we just aren't going to do that. There is a certain thing that happens within a community of players that creates something unique and usually spectacular... We don't want to interfere in that process.

Look at it this way, maybe this is the one forum on all of the internet where if a topic isn't interesting to the group, it dies - no controlling hand of the moderator needed. You know it really does work out fine in the end, if people don't reply to troll posts - they go away. If people point out duplicate threads just by posting a link to an earlier thread, then people can post there.

If the information is confusing on the boards, and I know sometimes it is, we have a wiki and there are many other guides. Players become very skilled at organizing information. I do think that the forum is a place for conversation, winding, repetitive and frustrating as it can sometimes be, the process of that conversation, and the emergent properties it contains, matters.

Oh, well, not to lecture anyone. This is just my opinion. I want to hear yours.

I've never played an ARG or even been involved in any kind of internet forum or chat group - I just love movies, computer games, and puzzles. I was intrigued by the trailer, and also just happened to get a high speed internet connection, and so - here I am.

I just wanted to say that I've been really surprised and impressed with the general level of courtesy and creativity on this forum. Sure, every now and then someone posts something obnoxious, and people get snippy, but everyone's been really decent for the most part. So, you all rock! I'm really happy to be a part of this, and I think the movie is going to be an infinitely richer experience for us than for people who haven't done anything online. Also, I know my posts get long-winded (I'm a lawyer turned philosopher, so I kinda can't help it.. Embarassed ), and I'm grateful nobody's busted me out for it. Again, this is a great community - happy to be part of it. Very Happy

And, rose, you're absolutely right about the need for patience. Amen and Huzzah to that.

P.S. the 1998 Godzilla is on FX right now and, man, does it suck!

I've been to a few different forums and I still jump around from here to
there.

But since the menuism.com/Tagruato discovery I've posted elsewhere
very seldom.

I, for one, refrained from posting in this forum in my former uF lurker
days out of a certain intimidation /disgust factor prejudice that was
formed by seeing all the seemingly arrogant posts that abounded. Crying or Very sad

I'm still not sure why they have stuck out the most...I suppose it's
because I believe that type of attitude is rarely justified, regardless of the
reasoning behind it (it does little to encourage someone who may
bring the next clue to the uF table at somepoint)

But the beauty of the community lays, partly, in those very posts. The
plethora of personalities involved in this campaign give way to an
extremely diverse and successful team.

If your arrogant by nature it shines through...
If your analyticall by nature, it shines through...
If your humorous by nature it shines through...
If your dedicated by nature, it shines through...
If your relentlessly obsessed by nature, it shines through Embarassed

All of these individual character traits in one place w/ one common goal,
make way for a great team, albeit a lil' rough around the edges at times.
The evidence is that uF does hold a record and reputation for being the
first to make the finds.

Most of you have heard this before...but I truly feel it applies at uF:
* T ogether
* E ach
* A ccomplishes
* M ore

I'm glad I'm a aprt of the team.... Very Happy
