Which required no resizing?
I had no prob with the Fault Line map, not the plate.

I'd like to note that the tectonic SVG image and the image used for the Tagruato site are almost precisely the same continental outlines and were basically identical projections (no distortions, so there was no stretching to make them line up - just proportional scaling).

I'll overlay that nice sea floor map if the projection works well enough, but I'm not excited to work up a ley line graphic or a map of Vernon's travels. I would be willing to give someone a copy of the PSD file somehow, so they could add those layers on my work and give you that much grander map.
Hm, I thought that for me the FAULT LINE map required zero resizing.

What Tagruato map did you use? I used the one off of cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com ...

( PS I'm crashing as we type, its past 1am for me )

The 'fault line' map was the cruder one, and I didn't bother to do an overlay with that one. It may have been 1:1 with the Tagruato map. Speaking of which...

Good old Alt+Print Screen then imported into a new image in Photoshop. I cropped to the map only, none of the other text rendered in the Flash object. I had already extracted the map used in the Flash, which was a bitmap but with none of the markings. It's also not the same color mode as the way the map is actually rendered by flash. It does make a good guide to compare with the screenshot.

The Tharp map image is a wee bit distorted, the result of being a scan of the original or a picture taken of the original. If I could find a totally clean flat version I could make that line up perfectly, but as it is it won't resize correctly. On a side note, I'd like to note that Marie Tharp who created that ocean floor map died a year ago August. I'm sure she'd be pleased in our interest in the ocean floor, odd though the source of our curiousity may be.

I'm sure she'd appreciate us clamouring with stacks of distorted maps, "WHERE'S THE SEA LION?!?!"

I'll be back tomorrow, time for bedsies. Very Happy

Drilling Station Names Clues.
I haven't been here in awhile...so sorry if this has been mentioned.

But I noticed the drilling station names were the names of the first 14 japanese emperors. Jimmu, was supposedly Japan's founder and first emperor. Myths also say that he was a descendant of both the sun god and the sea goddess.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Jimmu

The drilling station near the US that is unfinished is the 14th mythical emp, Chuai. He was believed to be born three years after his fathers death. Another strange fact is that historians now say that these first 14 emperors were not emperors at all, and are giving that distinct 'first emperor' title to Chiua's son - Ojin.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperors_of_Japan

Perhaps if someone has the time, draw a line connecting the dots from the first Station (emperor) to the last on a printed version of the map?

This will get you started and the line should be drawable in seconds with this helpful wikipedia link. Just follow the descendants links to keep the line going. If no pattern, the names are still a clue of sorts.

And for fun..

Chuai's Wife http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jingu_of_Japan
Chuai's Son http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Ojin

PS - I also tried clicking on all of them in this order on the map, but nada Sad

good luck!

Dots connected
but there's more than 1 way to connect 2 dots

I first thought I was drawing a waterbear, but then I realized, it's a sphere, so there's more than 1 way to get to a particular point in "space"

First lame attempt:

Sorry about that, good news, GIMP can draw straight lines.

The genteperson above me asked if someone could "connect the dots" ... so I complied.

In order of the aforementioned emperors, I suppose in the hopes that a meaningful pattern would appear on the 1st pass.

i am of the view that no matter how many aforementioned passes you make at attempting to connect the dots, no pattern or picture will be viewable nor any clues obtained from doing so.
