Hey dude,
Understand you are new and all but you might want to ask this question in some social forum instead of the news and rumors forum.

What you should do is based on what kind of game you like. For instance Red Monday is a game that has alot of PM interaction where we will have chats with the PM, compared to other ones like 1-18-08 which are very cryptic to begin with.

Also, I would try and look for a game starting up like What is this Game. It is easier to get into it and it means less pages of forums you have to read. It is mostly just picking randomly.

Read a lot. Read the FAQs, Getting Started, Welcomes, Glossaries and similar things on ARG sites like this one, ARGN, and others in this site's Links. Also read forum rules carefully before posting so you don't get yourself trouted too much.

Some of the more established and/or finished games will have their own wikis and "The Story So Far" type threads for people who want to catch up. Even for games that are over, it's a good way to see how things work. Look in forum sections for specific games, those kinds of threads will often be stickied at the top.

LURK in threads for ongoing games, whether trailheads or more established games. Use uF's Online Tools section (and Wikipedia) for help and try to work out the solutions to puzzles and codes.

When you do decide to join a game, do yourself a favor and READ THE WHOLE THREAD BEFORE POSTING. Yes, even if it's really long. They're usually a faster read than you think, mostly due to all of the "dude, I'm so confused" posts (no disrespect intended!) - the summary threads will naturally tend to be denser.
