[META] the 1-18-08 community/sub-forum The following is my personal view base on experience, so please don't take this as an official moderator type announcement.
I've been noticing that the dynamic of this promotion has caused certain effects in the audience here. Mostly I've noticed that people join with enthusiasm, realize that this is slow going and then leave. We have an every changing and alway renewing group. Now, this is great and I'm not complaining. What happens, though, is that continuity gets lost, there is no great commitment to creating or maintaining community resources.
Also, this promotion has had more fake data then real..more hoaxes and game jacks than actual in-game data. As a result of dealing with almost daily "fake" info, I wonder if we players have become a bit overly jaded and cynical. Personally, I'm not happy with the occasional attitude of suspicion and accusation of players that sometimes appears in this sub-forum -even though I totally understand where it is coming from. I feel that attitude won't generally translate well into other games -games where the data is more often real than fake- and I hope that the players here hang around for other games when this promotion finishes.
I am extremely pleased that the recent divide over whether the photobucket site should have been hacked didn't devolve into a split in the group. One thing I've learned from ARGs is that it is possible for a group to function well even though members have opposing views, I think that we have done a good job with negotiating that pitfall.
I admire the enthusiasm, intelligence, perseverance and humor of the players here. I think we can build our own community. I suggest that it is possible to do that just by treating each other with a little more patience. And, maybe we need to come up with some of our own ideas to keep this promotion more interesting for us.
I'm curious as to what other players think. Comments are welcome.
For me, I'm in this promotion til the end. I'm enjoying it and I'm enjoying hanging out with the other players here.

I agree with everything you said. People come and go, and those who stay 'jump at the throat' of others, but after the fifth gamejack you start to get paranoid, and after the tenth person posts a thread about the Lion theory, you just can't hold it back.
I hope we can simply discuss more odd theories and comments about this movie while we wait for it to move. If nothing else for giving someone the pleasure of a huge "I told you so!" after we had seen the movie.

What we have here, I think is a forum that is trying to do two things at once.
On the one hand we have the "ARG", if that's what it is, where we all have lots of fun trying to work out the clues, building up the back story, waiting for the next crumb to be dropped from the table.
On the other, we have speculation about what happens in the actual film. This, of course, is great fun too. But I fear that at some point, human nature being what it is, someone really is going to find out what the monster looks like, or who dies, or what happens at the end. Now I really don't want to know any of those before I see it happen on the screen.
If only it was possible to separate the 'Chaotic Fiction' of the ARG from the 'Organised Fact' of the movie itself.
Having said all that, I'm still here for the duration, but I just hope some spotty oik who knows a friend of a friend who works on the movie doesn't spoil the suprise for all of us.
Thank you and goodnight.

Reminds me of the American 'Zilla movie where they tried to keep the look of the monster a secret but released action figures of the beast way before the film premiered. D'oh.

This is what I love about our little group - its international appeal. No one in the US could turn a phrase like 'spotty oik.'

I think this group has the best minds dealing with this. If anything new comes up it's found by one of us. When new hidden info comes out you can count on someone in this community being the person to find it.

community This movie actually made me join and post, use to just check it out to get all the info on a upcoming movie. I believe the lack of new items/clues over the last 4 months has been kinda disappointing(It has though picked up alittle towards end Sept/beginning Oct. We recieved more clues it seems in last 4 weeks then I think have come in the previous 3 months.Hopefully, They will continue to provide more .There is only 14 weeks left! I believe the people in this forum have been great, Have had a sense of humor along with some great ideas and theories. Its been great so far and cant wait to see everyones comments as we get closer to the showing. Thanks for the all the help on here when I get confused..lol

I joined this forum after seeing it mentioned on a facebook group as being one of the best for finds and theories. I thought i'd get involved in all the action. Its not been a disapointment so far.

For what it's worth, I have a rather lofty idea of the endgame.
Read about it (last graph): http://www.quiblit.com/Departments/Movies/OpenSourceMythmaking/tabid/138/Default.aspx
While it's certainly just a game, of sorts, so was Pong. How's that for a sense of perspective?

There was this recent game/project called "world without oil" which dealt with... living in a world with no oil. It was funded by PBS.
