Legendary Ending
What is it?

So, if any of you have completed the campaign on legendary (or cheated and just did the half of the last level Razz like me) youve seen:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A chunk of the ship the Arbiter and Chief were on, after the ending after the credits. The only catch is theres a dimly lit planet behind it. The planet catchs a ray of light, and you can see its covered with a machine-like surface with small crevices of blue light

Ive looked at numerous forums, some say its a machine-planet from Marathon: Durandal linking it (if it is: HA! Told you!) to Marathon. Some say its Onyx, but isnt Onyx in slipspace?
I have a feeling this is going to end with me getting flamed again Very Happy
...I have the thread curse...

Another idea I had was Coral. There's a Forerunner artifact on Coral. You can see light on the surface of the planet. Otherwise if it is Marathon (seen this other places) The main character would be over 200 years old. Just throwing that out there.

Yes, but in the Halo Universe, when your frozen, you age very slowly, so John would only be in his late 40s/50s, i believe, just like John has been 'alive' 40 years but was frozen for a while, im not sure how long. Also, hes a cyberneticlly enhanced human, so he would probally be just a little less capable of what he did in the Halo series, we dont know how long he can live.
edit: So many things wrong

According to the Marathon Booklet the main character is over 200 years old:

With apprehension, the same apprehension you felt three hundred and twenty-two years earlier

Well my friend kinda disproved this but to me it looked like an un-damaged high charity...Is there any way grave mind could have stopped the explosion and saved him self?

Yeah, it looks a bit like High Charity.

Maybe, it could be the Elites' homeworld.

Personally, I think it's the Forerunner homeworld. The ship was way the hell away from the edge of the galaxy, so it can't be anything we've encountered yet in the Halo universe. It's out of range of the Halo Array, so they could have survived the first firing. The ship couldn't have moved very far without some sort of tractor beam. Also, the lines on the planet sort of resemble the glyph for a second.

It could be this 'Maginot' sphere that's mentioned in the Terminals dialogue.

I see it!

Also, what's up with the symbol that's on the cover of GoO, in the terminals, on some parts of the Library at Delta Halo, and also on the E3 trailer showing some land mass? Anybody know what it means/is?

Ive been reading some threads on this, some people think that there couldve been a gap between the planet scene and the freezing scenes. Alot of people think its a future Earth.
GamesRadar is confident there will be a Halo 4, since there were some unanswered questions

A few thoughts, sorry that its all so unorganised, this stuff makes so much more sense in my head!

From reading the terminals it sounds to me like there was some sort of federation of all different sentient races, all living under the protection of the Mantle, which was enforced by one particular race - the Forerunner/Guardians.

Also does anyone have the Bestarium, because the perspective of that book seems to be Forerunner. I only read through it briefly, and don't have it to hand, but I swear that somewhere in this book it also mentions the 'Precursors,' if this is coming from a Forerunner perspective, that means that there were older things than them.

Something else also supports this, Terminal 2, page 4 of 5, Didact says this: The Mantle has not failed! I've already razed scores of worlds – sterilized systems, routed and [disintegrated] the parasite! We're learning its tricks and strategies. We can halt this thing! And we can follow in Their footsteps!

'Their' is capitalised, sounds eerily like the Covenant prophets.

Guilty Spark said to Master Chief 'You are Forerunner, Child of my Makers.' How does this figure? Obviously this is why we were so special to the Forerunner and why they risked building a last gateway to the ark on earth, but whats the connection between us?

Another interesting thing: Terminal 3, page 5 of 5, Librarian: "Are you insane? Would you risk every life in the galaxy for this transparently futile plan? Have you learned nothing in these last [300 years[?]]? The thing will laugh at your efforts!"

Seems like it has been 300 years since the Flood was encountered. But Guilty Spark stated he had been the monitor of 04 for 101,217 years, and the halos were fired about 100,000 years before the events of Halo. Meaning that the Halos had been around at least 900 years before the Flood appeared! Why would they need such weapons?

And still a big question remains, why did the Flood survive on the Halos? They should have been killed by the Halo pulse.

Once again sorry thats it's all jumbled, it's just all the thoughts I've been having since I played through the game.

I believe that in the terminal dialouge it says that the Halo rings were not origionally made as a weapon; rather they were made to study the Flood. When the Flood problem started getting out of hand, the Forerunners made the Halo installations into weapons.

Halo doesn't destroy the Flood, it kills their food.

That would be logical, but in order to be correct that would mean that the Flood would have to remain under control for 900 years. The Flood are always hostile, and the Forerunner were not expecting them. I would suggest that the first encounter with the Flood was effectively a suprise invasion.

And thats what I always thought, except if you read the Terminal 6 legendary text, it seems clear that Mendicant Bias' ships, containing the Flood, were also hit by the halo effect. Think about it. If it didn't kill the Flood there would have been no point activating the Halo's, because Mendicant Bias would have been able to get his fleet through the Maginot sphere to the Ark, where he would find all the indexed species ready for the flood to consume.
