Just touching on a couple of already-mentioned points...

I'm just going to throw my two cents in based on my experiences.

As I mentioned in my introductory post, I'm a Health and Safety Officer (HSO) for a prominent environmental remediation company, and, as such, my work entails a great deal of travel. For instance, since January alone, I've been on jobs in Mobile, AL, Bayonne, NJ, Newark, NJ, Bronx, NYC, NY, Brooklyn, NYC, NY, Everett, MA, and now Green Bay, WI, where I've been since the end of June. As part of my deal with the company, I receive a daily cash sum (per diem) simply for working away from home, a get a furnished apartment that includes unlimited long distance, cable, and high-speed internet. I also had the option of having the company provide me with a phone or them paying for my phone (up to a certain amount monthly).

While I've never worked out of the country, I know two HSOs who are doing exactly that right now, one in Iraq and one in China. They've both been given satellite phones by the company, and, based on the amount of ridiculous texts I receive from the guy in Iraq, I highly doubt the company has really shut him down in that area. Also, on that job, the company provided satellite internet access, and they have high-speed of some sort wherever they're staying (I think it's a hotel, but I could be mistaken).

Realistically, this should clear up any confusion as to whether or not Teddy would be able to communicate with Jamie, even if he is stationed on a drilling rig somewhere. Is this the case? I'm really not sure, but I tend to lean more towards Teddy working with Tagruato or one of its subsidiaries than a Greenpeace-like organization. Of course, I'm also of the mind that that's how Rob gets his theoretical job with the company, through Teddy, and that's nothing more than unfounded speculation at this point. We know Rob's going to Japan and based on Hawk wearing a Slusho shirt, a connection was assumed to be there. Is that wrong? I don't necessarily think so, but there is a substantial leap of faith in logic being taken.

Now, as for the video itself, some observations:

-Again, due to the nature of my work, I've often found myself involved in long-distance relationships. And, to this point, I've only had one that ended amicably without the girl or myself being unfaithful. As such, I've been on both ends of the "hook-up cover-up". That said, I don't think Jamie's lying, at least not about the night before the video was made.

-Exhibit A, as has been mentioned before, is the complete and total lack of shock when her bedmate reveals themself. If she was staging a cover-up, even if she wasn't smart enough to edit the video or make a new one, she would've at least been upset. That leads me to believe that her bedmate is, in fact, a girl.

-Exhibit B is the fact that she doesn't seem like she's overtly lying. I've dated some excellent liars in the past, and there's always some kind of tell when they're lying, but Jamie's behavior doesn't seem much different than in the first video (I'm throwing the second one out because she was supposed to be drunk) - the speech patterns, voice modulations - it all seemed pretty normal for her. If she was under extreme stress (as she most certainly would be if she actually cared about this guy), there'd be a wider range of pitch in her voice and she'd make more mistakes when she was telling her story. As it was, the "didn't/couldn't" thing (about texting Teddy) seemed fairly minor and could easily be chalked up to an honest mistake.

-Exhibit C is probably the most telling to me - she had dated this guy for what, a week or so before he left? And he's been gone for 4-6 weeks now, right? If she was back to her hard-partying promiscuity, I don't believe she would've even gone to the trouble of making the video. More than likely, she would've just waited for Teddy to call her and then refute whatever claims the ex-girlfriend made. It's much easier to lie to someone when they can't see your face.

That said, I honestly think she's been faithful (thus far), and is just stressed out about the ex-girlfriend and losing her stuff.

As a side note, if the PMs are reading this, kudos on the low-cut shirt. I actually made it through the whole video this time without being freaked out by her nostrils. However, it's going to take more than gratuitous cleavage to make me think of this character as anything more than a vacuous sorostitute who's just a few years removed from her college days.

yeah at this point i definitely think teddy works for tagruato/bold futura and im just waiting for jamies next video to include something along the lines of "sorry for sleeping with the backcourt of the knicks teddy. i love you! ..oh and rob needs a job can you hook it up?" Laughing

For some reason I think Teddy is some activist, specifically revolving around oil. If he's off saving the world and all. Just makes me think further that the website akaparallax.com is involved somehow. Messages about the Big Oil and it's environmental impact. Also it seems to be updated whenever something else is. The most recent songs have strange names but I do recognize the songs, in fact one is Exactly What You Wanted by Helmet and another is Every Little Thing Counts by Janus Stark and then an older one that's been on there for awhile - Chagall Guevara's Murder in the Big House - I don't know the rest. The 4:25 mark in IODP Remix still freaks me out.

Teddy's mission

I'm not so sure Teddy is a "good-guy"…all we know is he's told Jamie he is off saving the world. Jamie says she understands, but doesn't really understand. I can see Teddy being able to pull the wool over her eyes without too much difficulty.

Just because he's told Jamie (who by all indications appears to be a pawn in the unfolding events) that he is doing something noble sounds too convenient for me.

I think his true nature will soon be revealed (at least by Dec 9).

I'm starting to like the idea of Teddy being part of a team overseeing the opening of the Chaui station. Here's why...

1. The ball/toy thingy in Jamie's vid. seems to point to Bold Futura. She's playing w/it in the 1st vid., and it's in this latest vid., but it's not in the second one. The biggest problem with this is that Hawk "chugged a Slusho!" way back on June 2nd. From what we know, it's likely that Jamie hadn't hooked up with Teddy as early as that, so Rob works for Slusho!... just coincidentally? Could just be the PM's being sloppy, but I dunno. Hurm...
Anyway, assuming Teddy does work for Bold Futura....

2. BF is the engineering side of Tagruato - it handles all the hardware and machinery, etc. So, it would be the branch of Tagruato that designed & constructued the drilling platforms.

3. All we know about the Chaui station, apart from it's relatively convenient access to NYC, is that it was scheduled to open in September, 2007.

4. Teddy left town - for work - on either Sept. 6th or Sept. 7th.
- In Jamie's comment to Lena (on 9/10), she said that Teddy called her on "each of the last three days." So, depending on whether she's counting that day itself (the 10th), it means that Teddy saw her video on the 7th or 8th. In the first video, Jamie says "I know you've only been gone for a day" - so, Teddy left on either the 6th or the 7th.

So, this would all fit - Teddy went as part of a team of engineers overseeing the opening of the station. Hopefully, we'll get some weird video from him of something going wrong out there - that would actually explain why Rob looks like he wasn't totally surprised. Maybe Teddy tried to warn them, but it got garbled, the video was sketchy, couldn't quite make out what was going on, Teddy sounded crazy, etc. I hope this is how it goes, b/c then we might get to see that video.

Oh, also - he could still think he's "saving the world" even though he's an engineer installing oil-drilling platforms, because they also do bioprospecting (YMR) with those platforms, and that could be the part of the operation that Teddy's more excited about - feels he's doing his part as an engineer to help find these miracle drugs, etc. etc.

My only problem with this is the time zone issue. Jamie says that it's 'really early in the morning' and that she wanted to 'catch him before he started his day.' If he were at Chaui, he'd be a couple hours ahead of her, so it's got to be really early - like 4-6 A.M. But, she was apparently really hammered the night before, and they prob. stayed up late, and she looks like she's already slept for a time... it just doesn't seem right. I mean, maybe they don't want her to look as awful as she should - if she was wasted and only slept for a few hours. Anyway, we have no idea at all what time that video was supposed to have been recorded, so it might still work. FWIW.

Also, I think she sent the video b/c she probably WAS making out with guys on the dancefloor (as she says Teddy's ex was sure to report, but it wasn't true, blah blah blah). I don't think she cheated, but she gets drunk and is a massive flirt/J-ho. So, she probably did some dirty dancin' and maybe a bit more - got busted by the ex, and is now feeling guilty and panicky. Just a thought. That would make sense of her saying she wasn't perfect, she was lonely, etc., but not looking too guilty. A minor transgression (and, for Jamie, not even a blip on the radar Wink)

I'm still clinging to the Watchmen theory - that Teddy is part of some group that's going to 'stage' the whole monster attack; I mean, it will be real, but it will be their doing. And, their reason for doing it will be that it will unite the world against a common and totally unknown threat.

Im really starting to like this idea too. It fits in with alot of info so far. Like Rob being worried.

Although I feel that Teddy and Rob will be in on the plot. When they release the monster, two things might happen.

1) The monster arrives early, or the party delays Rob. He thought he had longer.
2) Tagruato betray Rob, and lied about when it would come.

Two things, that could help. One is that when Jamie says its early, she could be referring to early in the morning for Teddy. Second, we dont really know what time Teddy starts, but we can assume he would start at around the morning.

Excellent points. So, since we don't really know bupkiss about the whole time-zone issue, we should just disregard it - at least until that time when we can say...

Hey, I apologize if I'm asking about something already discussed ad naseum (searching was difficult) but here it goes-

They really seem to be emphasizing how much they text each other, and there's the quite mysterious mention of the texts in the second video. Is there any way at all to access your text messages online somewhere? Is there any way, in other words, to find these messages they keep refering to? I know someone suggested there may be a way to recover her purse and cell phone in a lost-and-found if we knew what club she was at, but we don't.... anyhow, this seems like a really good avenue of exploration.

Also, the suggestion that that's a guy in Jamie's bed is absolutely ridiculous. Why the hell would she record herself in bed with another guy, then post the video for her boyfriend to see? I mean, she's obviously stupid, but she's got to be brighter than that. If she's smart enough to dress herself and pee on her own, she's smart enough to record a video for her boyfriend while not being in bed with another man.

That's a good idea, Deletia - that way, we can still find out something from her lost phone, but w/out leaving our computers. Very Happy

I would imagine there is a way to check your text messages online, through some kind of account w/your phone company, but I don't know - I don't have a cutting edge cell phone. Even so, we'd have to know what kind of phone she had and/or her carrier/provider, wouldn't we? And, we don't know that stuff. Crying or Very sad

She says, "It's really early in the morning and I just wanted to catch you before you started your day." The time zone thing works, I tell you. If you find the station on the time zone map (it's below the tip of Greenland and in the same time zone) it's 2 hours ahead of NYC time. So early morning in NYC = slightly later in the morning at Chuai. 6AM in NYC = 8AM in Chuai. No matter what the exact time is for Jamie, its feasible that it's around start of a normal work day at Chuai. In any event, he has to be either in the same time zone or EAST of NYC within a few time zones.

Not to mention she went out of her way to drop this info in the video, that was the first thing she said...they gave us the map, they wanted us to figure this out. Does this confirm that he's there? No. But it definitely suggests that he is there.

Well I was mainly saying that there is a wide gap, one that we can still work in though. Like its most likely Teddy starts at around 6 or 8. So Chuai station still makes the most sense, i.e it makes more sense for Teddy to start around 6 or 8 then at midnight. I guess my point is that its still possible for Teddy to work anywhere in the world. So Japan isnt completely out of the picture.

Good point, the fact they mentioned the timezones probably means that we would be able to have an idea about where Teddy is. An based on the timezones, Chuai station makes the most sense.

Does anyone know when this video actually was uploaded, as in when it first became available on the site? That'd help a lot in knowing when it was actually meant to have been taken, if it wasn't in fact supposed to be the morning right after the last video. The collective assumption seems to be around 4-6 am, but somehow I think it'd be a fair bit later. Bars close at 2 am, and it'd take a little time to get home. She's that sober with only a couple of hours of sleep?

I still don't think she's that good at figuring out time zones anyway. In a way of more organic thinking, I'd expect her sense of 'before his day starts' to be before he's gotten up. That'd place him more at night. Consider this:
She sleeps 6-8 hrs after collapsing at home. This means it's about 9-10 am.
In Japan it's 10-11 pm on the same calendar day.
By the time she gets the cam set up, video made, and posted it's closer to 11-12 pm in Japan. Teddy is going or has gone to bed.
Next morning for Teddy, he checks his email and such in the morning, and finds this gem and maybe some texts or emails from evil ex.

LOL... i know what you mean!! well, I think these people DO know how much we've gotten into this whole thing, because they keep teasing us with more. Smile For them to go out of their way to even do all this tells me they would certainly follow up by checking out how we're responding to it. I had heard that Abrams wanted this movie to have a "Blair WItch Project" feel to it (I totally loved that movie and it's concepts), and I think he's doing a great job of it. Before Blair Witch came out, the only real advertising that was done for it was a fake-umentary on cable TV about the characters, and MISSING PERSONS signs on college campuses throughout the country. It was brilliant. When I actually saw Blair Witch at a sneak peek preview a week before it hit theaters, I thought it was real, and it scared the life out of me. It was so geniously done, never letting us see a "monster" but instead leaving it to our imaginations so that we perceive the villian to be whatever our own fears can conjure up when we think of being lost and alone in the woods. Abrams has done the same thing with 1-18-08 - not revealing the creature, and, instead of college campus MISSING PERSONS flyers he is using MySpace, and, instead of a cable fake-umentary he is using viral sites. I love people who have such great imaginations - especially in the business world where everyone nowadays seems to be humorless, unimaginative, stiff, and unhuman.

I get the feeling, just by how much work they are putting into this, that they are wondering if we are noticing how hard they are trying, just as we are wondering if they see just how much they've got our attention! Smile
