Why is the curtain pulled? By definition it is supposed to be happening in an alternate reality. As if there is a world where rob and them are and it overlaps our world in some places but not others. Even if the promoted on MySpace you put yourself into the role of Rob where if he is sitting at his computer there is no Cloverfield advertising, its an alternate reality. Maybe I am misunderstanding. But I view it as two separate worlds where there are occasianlly overlaps that we get to see into their world. Like we are ghosts visiting there plane of existence.
I don't see the mainstream marketing promotion stopping the ARG(E) except annoying more people on here when they start researching the trailer and posting topics like "Have you guys seen the writing on the back of the pictures?"

The 3-4 week lead might be off, Myspace is promoting on their main page already for "I Am Legend". That opens I believe Dec 7th, Thats 7 weeks from this friday.
I Am Legend opens December 14th. That still makes it a 7 weeks from this Friday.
I haven't see the MySpace page, but two new trailers were released yesterday for I Am Legend.
If they wait to release the new Cloverfield trailer until it's seven week to go, we should see it around Nov 30th.
your right, Dec 14th was 7 weeks, lost count on my fingers after 5.Thanksgiving weekend draws big numbers to theatres thats why was also thinking Beowulf's Nov 16th opening, right before the thanksgiving big draw weekend.

I just look at the list of movies opening Thanksgiving weekend :
If I has to pick one, I would go with Hitman or The Mist , even though they are different studios. Although they are both rated R, which may not work if Cloverfield is rated PG-13.

I'm saying people might be going to see Beowulf over Thanksgiving weekend instead of the 16th weekend. Which would put it at 8 weeks b-4 01-18? You do the counting for me..lol

Despite the fact that some people are sure 'nobody' is following this movie project but us 'geeks', I think there's two ways to gain from putting the trailer ahead of Beowulf.
First off, Beowulf will probably be a decent draw. The average person is likely to know enough about the story to be curious, and it looks very well done. This would put the trailer in front of people with a similar genre interest.
Second, if people following this find out the trailer is before Beowulf, how many will go see the movie because of that? It will either put the icing on the cake or at least make it tasty enough to eat for those interested in this project.
Hard to loose at that rate.
Oh, and if this bears out true I'm claiming top bragging rights .

Thats a good point. Thats why I thought something from this movie MIGHT have been on the Transformers DVD. I see entertainment media companies doing this more and more and its kind of a win/win situation. They make more money, we know when to go look for our trailer. It probably all kicked off with the first Star Wars episode One trailer that played before Meet Joe Black. I don't think they planned it but they say MJB's numbers skyrocket because so many people would go just for the trailer (in retrospect I bet they wouldn't have gone to a crappy movie to see a trailer of a crappy movie lol). I think they would do well to use the Cloverfield trailer as an additional marketing tool to help promote another film.

Personally, I think they'll be stupid not to use that prime space for marketing Cloverfield, seems almost common sense

yeah movie studios have definitely been exploiting movie trailers for more ticket sales.

I have a story on my blog today about Jessica Lucas (Lily Ford)
Quote:
"When they first explained to us what they were going to do in terms of marketing, it sounded pretty weird. But obviously it has worked. And there are going to be more trailers coming out very soon , so that will give people even more reason to get excited."
Lucas plans to spend the next couple of months helping to promote the movie.
..."We already are planning all the promotion we're going to be doing for Cloverfield, or whatever you want to call it. So that's going to be my focus."

Interesting! She said "trailers coming out very soon". Interesting use of the plural "trailers", and the wonderfully ambiguous "very soon". Multiple trailers? This has all been shrouded in so much mystery it's nearly impossible to believe that we'll finally get the one new trailer that Abrams promised, much less multiple trailers.
Of course, I'm not sure how authoritative a quote from a young actress in the movie is regarding trailers, but it's the best info we've had in a while. Maybe Beowulf will bring the new trailer after all. And if they plan on having the actors do two months of promotional work, then the floodgates of information may open soon.

I really thought there would an update or something this week. There have been little tidbits the past few weeks on Thursday or Friday.
If the next trailer is in front of Beowulf on Nov 16, that may also be the start of an increased tempo for updates and release of new clues. If you read the Jessica Lucas article, she mentioned she is currently taking some time off before the Cloverfield marketing/promotion kicks into high gear.
It will be nice when it happens, but if it doesn't start for another 3 weeks, it's going to get god-awful boring on these boards.

Actually Euchre, I and others made that claim a month before you did, so you may have 2nd bragging rights (yeah, I was wrong on the Stardust claim, but hopefully this one pans out)

I claim mitigation because you supported the idea that Stardust would have the second trailer and Beowulf the third trailer.
Or something...
So OK, maybe you connected the two a while before - but why didn't my Search results for Beowulf pop that up? I even went in Ascending order for the dates so I'd find the oldest reference first.
Can't say I'm enthralled with phpBB's Search. I'm actually not too impressed with several BB softwares' search functions. Wish I could remember the name of the one that was used on another forum - I wrote a tutorial on it showing how to get excellent results every time. That forum ended up changing software, and the new one's search sucked.
Oh well.
