I know you all want Tagruato to have somethin to do with it but.....I still think the explosion is like the monster emerging from under the city or bay or whatever then launching little spores from somewhere on it's persons/itself however you'd say it.

I also think that those spores end up landing and hatching giving way to tons of mini monsters that eventually grow and rampage N.Y.C.

I nvr really thought that about the spores hatching till i posted..but I still am a firm beleiver in the monster ejecting spore type dealio's.

well, ok then not near the sea, but maybe a tagruato based factory in the heart of NYC. that also could be possible.

Map of Lower Manhattan shows two tunnels Holland Tunnel & Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Could have made its way up one of those to inner city.
Dont know how big those tunnels are.

It remains a good possiblity the monster passed gas at that moment on dry land and that asplozion occured....

Under water the flatulence is recognized as the "BLOOP"...much like when you do the same in a bathtub.

The mini asplozion shrapnel could be flaming dingleberies....

(I know...not bloody likely...)

With the news report showing "Earthquake?" on it, and not "Explosion", I believe they had felt tremors or reports of shaking prior to the explosions. That would lean towards the monster growing underneath NYC or coming up through the ground instead of invading from water like the poster kind of shows.

LOL....Guess if you eat enormous amounts of deep sea bacteria anything is possible. I tried finding maps of underground NYC (Tunnels). Would JJ's monster use the same way as Godzilla did in last movie(Tunnels under NYC)?

doubt tunnels are not how it came into the city. There are obvious scratch marks on buildings on the poster showing how it griped them to hoist itself up and through the buildings.

I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but we do have to remember that this is a movie, and movies have a certain logic all of their own.

Dissecting something like this seems to me to be a bit of a loss leader. I believe the explosion is there for dramatic effect. Explosions are cool, they signify great destruction, and it probably demonstrates the creature's toughness to the audience (much like the silver Terminator walking out of the burning oil tanker explosion).

I don't think the explosion is relevant or needing to be explained� it is visual popcorn for moviegoers and a sign of how much trouble NYC is in�
