Like one person said on the first page (sorry hun, forget your name) a 14A rating in Canada would make sense.
I say PG-13 and then release an R rated one in a couple months. Or make the DVD R Rated.

I didn't want to start a new thread on this. Now that the 2nd trailer is out, whether it is the official trailer or not, what will Cloverfield be rated? From watching the videos I have seen so far it looks as though there is no rating at the end. But considering the movie is only about a month out, you would think we would see a rating soon. I'm thinking R now with the blood from eyes/combustion grl. What are your thoughts?

Sometimes there is a green screen before a trailer that says "The following film is rated ___" or "The following film is not yet rated".
So, perhaps the final cut hasn't been submitted to the board that determines film ratings yet?

R. A few days ago, I would have said pg-13, but "exploding Marlena" has well and truly swayed me.

I'm pleased to say I believe it is most assuredly an R-rated film.

Yea, with the 2nd trailer released, it appears like its going to be an R movie.
Plus... if just a regular monster movie is usually PG-13... a Monster HORROR movie is definitely gonna be R.

In New Zealand, I'm betting safely with R16, which I think roughly translates to R in the US. I think the realistic aim of the film is going to see it shipped with the tag "Contains realistic violence", which is one of the big three for creating Rs - the others being sex scenes and torture.

PG-13
Reasons: A) Apart from some blood, maybe some gore, and some sexual themes, nothing over the top would be in the movie. B) How do you make money? By providing access to a wider audience.

R!
Please... Honestly... I was so mad about Fantastic 4 (2) being dumbed down to fit into a PG slot... It was one of the most gut-wrenching examples I've seen...
Hell, I would have loved to see Star Wars Episode 3 get an "R" rating (Ani did get most of his limbs cut off, and then burned, NVM him killing little kids.... damn)
I could see Cloverfield falling into the PG-13 rhelm... I'm not sure of JJ's style, but even Alias was kinda PG-13-ish
Hopefully, with the blair-witch style horror, intense Military action, obvious blood (I dont notice too much "sexual content") and the cursing (granting the leaks are true) it will just make it to "R"
hopefully...

Gimme an R rating. But since the movie will be at least partially hand cam, i'm getting the feeling that the worst of the violence and gore will be suggested and not seen. The greatest thing horror has going for it is the fact that implied horror has always worked better when felt, rather than seen. Blair Witch was a good example of conveying first person perspective in a horrifying situation, without any true violence being seen.
