[DK] FriendsOfHarveyDent.Org Edit: Most likely OOG I know the activity on this page is being discussed in the "IBelieveinHarveyDenttoo.com" thread, but I started another thread because I'm not sure if it's been declared IG or not, and I think it's still debatable.
The main reason I'm bringing this up is because a lot of clips in the campaign video on FriendsOfHarveyDent.Org are from Eckart in the movie "Thank You For Smoking". Primarily, him hitting the baseball was the shot I remember most.
Any clues to the contrary? Anyone wanna gimme a if it's been declared either?
[edit - added the "most likely OOG" in the description - kona]

Whois data would suggest NOT official IG. It doesn't match anything known IG. It's a Canadian IP.

I think not IG.
Another e-mail from Vernon today says:
Quote:
Please ignore last email.
No, there was no code in it. Just a lot of bourbon in the eggnog and a lot of rum in the rum balls.
Please don't tell anyone.
Going to die now.

Ok boys and girls, this site's got some sort of tool bar attached to it. I took the risk and put it on my browser. It came preloaded with some messages from one Vernon, bemoaning someone pulling dirty tricks during the DA elections. More developments as they come up.

An e-mail to Vernon re his headache brought this response:
Quote:
Look, I'm sorry I can't help you right now. I had a little trouble over Christmas and there are too many eyes on me right now. If anything else happens before New Years I'm going to find myself having one of those conversations that begins "We've been noticing a few things that have us a little worried" and ends with the phrase "My name is Vernon and I'm an alcoholic" or "My name is Vernon and I'm out of a job."
So please, if it's urgent, just write to press relations.
So I did ( press.relationsSPLAT friendsofharveydent.org ) and got this:
http://friendsofharveydent.org/letterhead.jpg
Quote:
Harvey Dent, Gotham District Attorney. Sounds good, doesn't it?
But the battle for Gotham isn't over, it has just begun!
What can you do?
1. Continue to do what you're doing. Be vigilant. Report any suspect behavior from Gotham police.
As Harvey himself put it: Help us make Gotham a better, safer, and stronger city by helping us stomp out corruption.
2. DO NOT BE AFRAID to use services like We Are the Answer created by Harvey Dent as ADA. We are assured the leaks which took place during the early phases of the pilot program cannot and will not recur. Those who report dishonest cops can be assured that their personal information will be protected. There were a few isolated instances of vigilant citizens receiving harassing phone calls. It was the work of one petty, drunken individual inclined to see any criticism of any law enforcement as a personal attack. It was not, as some have suggested, an elaborate conspiracy to scare off supporters of Dent's program and harm his candidacy. The matter was brought to the GCPD Disciplinary Board's attention and resolved through their new alternative sentencing initiative.
Thank you for believing in Gotham City. Thank you for believing in Harvey Dent.
You can uninstall the loyalty toolbar. Now that the campaign is over, it can't be of any possible use to anyone.

The only person brave enough to download said toolbar has not been heard from again

I'm still alive. No mal-ware rearing it's head yet.
The bulletins don't say much to me, but here they are.

Hey, it's Vernon

Hey, it's Vernon. Thanks for installing the Friends of Harvey Dent toolbar. With the campaign nearly over, I figured this was the best way to get organized. Not like anybody is going to be using this stuff after election night, so we'll have some privacy… relatively speaking. More privacy than I've got right now anyway. Gotta run.
Well, we won
26/12/2007
Well, we won. But it sure doesn't feel like a victory. With all the shit that went down during the campaign, all they got away with, I don't understand how Harvey could just sit there with that big grin on his face while they played the Harvard fight song again.
Maybe it's me...
27/12/2007
Maybe it's me. It's my first campaign. What do I know? Maybe I should be on Cloud 9 like everybody else. Harvey came right up to me at the victory party, clapped me on the back and said there will certainly be a place for me in the new D.A.'s office. Said he'd even like me to apply to be his personal assistant. Then he said I'd better get myself some better suits, which really sounds like I've got the job. I mean, they've all been kidding me about my suit – my one suit – since the campaign began. Guess none of them remember what it's like to be 6 months out of law school looking at $180,000 in student loans.
But anyway,
28/12/2007
But anyway, Harvey definitely said that my "fresh out of Hudson Law blue pinstripe from the Brooks Brothers outlet in Bludhaven" won't cut it to stand behind him at a press conferences and sit second chair when we go after Maroni. Really sounds like I've got the job. I should be on psyched, right? But I can't sleep and I don't think it's because I've still got the Harvard fight song ringing in my ears. They must have played it 20 times tonight, but that's not why my head hurts. I just wish I knew what was really going on inside the campaign. What was behind it all? What have they got against Harvey? And just how successful were they in infiltrating and corrupting the establishment we've got to go work in now? If nobody but me is even thinking about it, then nobody "official" is going to poke around. I have to hope that you will. I have to hope that you – whoever you are – are one of us.
Can anyone make heads or tails of these things? IS it even IG? Or do we have to wait for the new year for our man on the inside with Dent to become more transparent...?

I'd say it's pretty in game. I haven't followed this since its inception but two things make it fairly unlikely.
1. The date format should be month/day/year, not the day/month/year format. Gotham City might be fictional, but it's a fictional American city, and the PMs wouldn't get something that easy wrong.
2. As far as I remember, there's been no swearing until this blog. Not to say it couldn't enter here, but the first rule of playing in the IP sandbox is to respect the IP.

I'm not so sure its IG. If u take a look at where the toolbar came from its from a free easy to use website. Given the depth Warner bros has put into other aspects of the ARG i don't see why they would suddenly start using freeware (unless they blew their budget on those scrumptous cakes )

Let's try this again.
Whois data links to registration VERY DIFFERENT from the known IG sites.
We know who is behind the game (the company producing all the materials for the extended media experience).
This site and it's content don't match known IG materials.
Nothing wrong with fan-created stuff - can be lots of fun. But try to keep it in perspective and don't let it derail from the known IG materials. Else you will find yourselves running around in circles chasing a red fish called herring.

Whoops, I really mistyped. I meant to say it was OOG. I should stop typing when it's REALLY late like that.

Isn't it two hours later now than it was when you typed that though?

Nope, it was about 3am here when I posted that first thingy. This is why military time should take over AM/PM.

Crap, yeah... the forum shows your first post at 10:53 (my local time) and the second at 12:58, which I figured was 2 hours later...
So-called "military-time" is perfectly normal in these parts of the world...

I don't know where you see that phrase. Can you explain further? The only thing I notice is that if you vote on the poll, it takes you to different pages depending on what you vote for. For example, if you vote for "political oponents", it leads to the trailer, and the title bar says "answers are found by those who read the fine print". Other pages come up if you vote differently.
Edited: such as the thegothampost which is a "fan" site.
