3rd cipher

Original numbering
Quote:

33635336
33537373
36335363
32373332
3310373103
36463363
35373436
33933633
33733363
333103101010

Usage of the number 10 in Kanji numerics states that the number before it is multiplied by 10 and the number after 10 is added to the prior product.

Exact Hex conversion
Quote:

00000000:36 36 37 32 6672
00000004:33 63 53 36 3cS6
00000008:33 53 73 73 3Sss

0000001c:35 37 34 36 5746
00000020:33 93 36 33 3"63
00000024:33 73 33 63 3s3c
00000028:33 30 30 00 300

Hex conversion with deletion of singular and duo'ed 3's.
In cases of triple 3's or more the third 3 is used and the pattern is restarted. 10's are used as a multiplier, ie. 3 10 becomes 30. 10's not prefaced with a non 10 number are used as a singular 0. (My web searches using google netted zero leads for the key parts of the resultant text)

0000000c:57 46 96 37 WF–7
00000010:36 30 00 00 60.

Using the same rules as above with a few changes. When four 3's are present the third and fourth 3 are used as 33 respectively. When a 10 is used it is multiplied by it's predecessor and has its trailing number added to its product (following true Kanji numerics).

0000000c:57 46 96 37 WF–7
00000010:36 33 30 30 6300

Only skipping single 3's and using all other 3's after the initial one nets us this result.

00000010:57 46 39 36 WF96
00000014:33 73 36 00 3s6

Deleting all 3's and using 10's as either singular 1's or 0's results in

I would advise someone to email Steph, or whoever, with a response that the briefcase combination might be 760. Have her try the same combo on both sides. Hopefully cipher one isn't the other combo and 760 is actually right.

There also seems to be a non-repeating pattern of deleted 3's.
The patterns starts out
1111
2122
1122
1212
etc.
I'm not sure if this is a further clue to help solve the puzzle or just a coincidence. It might well translate to something as well.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome and will be thoroughly researched.

I'm now "Decorated" lol, with what? Frosting? I hope its butter cream.

CB I need to borrow your bottle of aspirin.

I'm pretty sure cipher 3 is some convoluted form of hex coding and cipher 1, if there is a pattern to the ciphers, will be some form of ASCII->Base conversion higher than base 8 (octal)
Considering the extremely low number of ciphers capable of utilizing the extended ASCII character £ and since ASCII->Base64 is one of those few I think it's likely that it will be the conversion that we will end up using; after we figure out what needs extracted or added to to get a plaintext solve.

Hiring someone experienced with decrypting extraneous ciphers coded by PMs on hallucinogenic drugs! EOE Paying commission based on speed of cipher solves!!!

Steph was mailed my results for all current cipher solutions and possible solutions. BTW the big hex mssg was cracked. It translated to the story about the briefcase.

I am CygnetGreenMonkey!!! =D

YUM icing!

There are two freeweb pages at the moment. One for the newspaper, and one for the ashden bridge club.

http://www.freewebs.com/lashdenbclub/
http://www.freewebs.com/ashdennewsbeta

do either of those help?

*note that it is Lashden for the club

and this one: http://stephandaber.blogspot.com/ is the website for her blog. I don't think anyone has decoded the big message there.

New email from Steph

stephanie and abercrombie to me

Quote:
hey again monkey Smile

good work on 2 and 4! Have a banana hehe ^^
The message seems to suggest further that maybe
Veritas IS something my father programmed... :S

I keep staring at the briefcase wondering what could
possibly be inside it that he'd go to so much trouble
leaving these ridiculous clues Sad
I mean I was looking at number 3 again earlier, he
didn't even speak japanese! Wierdy :S

looks like you've got part of the message hidden in it
tho if it says freewebs Surprised you sure you're not
missing any of the message out?

Anyway you seem to be doing way better than i ever
could! ^^

oh and no luck with that number on the briefcase :/
Good idea anyway... I've spent much of the day doing
999 combos on each side, they didn't open
individually, I must have to put in both sides at once
to open, more high-tech than it looks Surprised
not sure if i'll have time to go through 999999 combos
tho :S

night night ^^
~Steph~

Shes basically telling me what we already know =( which is that I haven't perfected cipher 3's solve =(

Time to work some more on cipher 1.

briefcase

Can't we just send her a crowbar and say "open says me" is the password? I mean really..... a briefcase? SWAN seems 'equipped' with firearms....yet they don't own a sledge hammer?

I wish I could help you with all of the ciphers, but you are now officially talking JIBBERISH. So freewebs is right, is there a way to search freewebs site for anything that looks like it's related? (no I didn't say HACK)
I did find a freewebs/veritas but it doesn't have anything posted.

Veritas means Truth. (not sure if that would be related somehow, but worth knowing)

There is also a coded message on Alex's blog....not sure if that has been looked at yet. Also, Alex gave up Steph's contact information, to veritas, so he may have given up his blog password too....which could be veritas posting as Alex. Just a thought. My guess is veritas is some computer/human? Some kind of AI anyways.

Where is everyone....there were more than 20 Cygnets here awhile ago. Has this thread been moved somewhere else?

I'm banned from hacking? =(

I fix problems.
It seems we HAVE a problem.
I know for a fact that a cold forged socket chisel and a cheap 20 lb sledge hammer will take the locking mechanism off any briefcase. It doesn't matter if its electronic or mechanical. No briefcase every produced that I know of has had a mechanism designed for it that can circumvent this technique.
Of course if this is one of those 'looks like a briefcase but is actually made of one inch thick tempered steel' jobs there is always the trusty blow torch. Use the smallest tip you can find and take at least 1 minute to properly heat the steel. A person well versed in oxyacetylene torch use will easily be able to do this for you. Lastly, always keep a halon class fire extinguisher near by just in case.
(Don't like fire or hitting things? Wuss, grab a hack saw with a metal cutting blade and get to work!!!)

Problem solved: Next puzzle please. =D

Heck yah!!!

CB wait.. check you mail.. Add the photo's I send you. So theres NO confusion.. =D

:Note to PMs: Please keep the cat off the keyboard while Photoshopping ciphers. Thanks =D :

On a more logic related note. Why would a guy leave ciphered clues to remind him of his briefcase passcode embedded in photos online? Why not just store a note on a web page that only he knew about with words or a picture that was just enough to jog his memory.

BTW if I'm going to continue to solve cat scratch ciphers I think I need to go to school to learn cryptology, the real stuff. The closest school for this is in California and I need tuition and books... Please donate to the send CipherMonkey to crypto school (so he can regain his sanity) fund.

Remove ALL duplicate 3s.......unless there is a 10 between them. (remove the tens also)

Try that and see what else u get.

This is what I get, which at least makes letter.....

no, cant get an anagram. and since the first half is not anagram, I didn't think second half should be.

*surf, check your email too. I found some more ciphers. Will post them after I get to try them. Saving you some advil Smile

Don't know how to delete a post....
This was already solved way back when. But at least I figured out how to finally do this stuff. I guess it wasn't all pointless.

just replace he stras with capital letters, run it through a decoder, then remove the capital letters (or just make the words in the right places) and add punctuation. It's an annoying process, but that's what I do. The key in that list, as before, is most likely the first word of the scripture verse quoted

Off to try that, thanks.
I did not know which version of bible to get verses from....so I have to try a few.

Isaiah 29:14 Therefore
Nehemiah 9:19 Because
Deuteronomy 4:6 Observe
2Chronicles 1:10 Give
Matthew 2:16 Then

and we have STORY =)

I got an email

Quote:
Sebring to stephanie

I believe that cipher 3 is a double encrypted form of Hex with
exclusions. ie. He ran his message through an ASCII->Hex converter
twice and then added numbers to convolute it. There might be a pattern
to the extra numbers but I haven't figured it out yet.

Quote:
Sebring to stephanie

I know its a stupid question but I have to ask it. Did he by chance
own a cat? Maybe one that was fond of cuddling with him while he was
typing? I know I use to have a cat that would use my keyboard as a
step so he could nuzzle me. Maybe his cat, if he had one, use to do
this too?

Quote:
stephanie and abercrombie to me

Hey monkey,

well ya, abercrombie is our cat! Didn't you know? ^^

And yeah he does do some typing sometimes, maybe 1 is
a herring that Aber made hehe, i can't make heads or
tails of it. XD

Just read ur other email too. Why do you think 3 has
numbers added or something? i don't understand. On
that subject however I found a scrap of paper down the
back of the computer desk with "three" written as the
title, it had this number on it

36363732363536353737363536323733323037303646363537343639363337333633303000

then some amateur atempts at japanese scribbled below
it.

This is pretty crazy... Why my father couldn't have
just left me a note I have no idea >.<

^.^
Steph and Abercrombie (Who's a cat!! ;p)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Running it through a hex->ascii converter two times gets us

freewebs poeticsc
which leads to http://www.freewebs.com/poeticsc/
