hello all.
Just visited this site and the forums and was wondering
Is there any post/thread/site that consolidates all known info about the game so far?

Thank you

news from melpomene

i hope there are some people still looking at this.

i sent an email to melpomene the other day - asking if the word contains the japanese prefix "chika" as there are some words that could possibly be related to qu13e, e.g. chikatetsu (= subway).

melpomene wrote:
Whoever said it was a word?

indeed she did never speak about any words. maybe we're looking for a number or code?

Taking a Step Back

Hello again all.

So I haven't posted anything for a really long time, partially because I've been busy(as I'm sure have most of you), but mostly because in spite of the fact that I've been visiting qu13e.com off an on for the past... I don't know almost a year? ... I haven't found anything worth posting... not that this intro is very important in and of itself...

But... I have recently become re-obsessed with qu13e and have spent any free time I can find for the last four days looking at qu13e.com and the clues that have been gathered on this site. I've come up with a couple of brainstorms that I hope you will also find enlightening...

So I don't know if you remember what Melpomene said when we found her:

Quote:

He said you'd find me, eventually.

But do you know how?

And then later:

Quote:

He said you'd be clever and find me, eventually.

He also said there'd be many who might happen upon me by chance.

My name isn't Melpomene, but the name is my key. And before I can use it to help you, you must tell me its secret.

The answer lies wherever you came from to get here. I'll know when you've unriddled his words.

I'm sorry if I'm being unkind, but he...

But I feel pretty strongly form Melpomene's response that we kind of found her before we were supposed to. We don't "know how" we found her. Methos just noticed the nine words in the pictures corresponded to nine muses and then sent an e-mail to each one of those muses splat qu13e.com. I mean, a good find, but perhaps that's not the way were were supposed to.

So I'm thinking that maybe there was a natural course that we were supposed to follow in order to reach the conclusion, and we kind of jumped it. But perhaps if we had followed that course it would have revealed more clues, or made clearer how we were supposed to use those clues to find the answers that we did. In theory it should be like trying to solve a math problem when you have an answer in the back of the book, you can at least tell if you are coming to the right conclusions.

So that's what I'm trying now. By tying to follow the natural course of the game, this is where it has taken me: (initiate review mode) The first and most obvious clue, the origin of this puzzle I think, was the quote "It's in between the echoes where you'll find me." We all know that we found the word Iriguchi[entrance] by using the first letter of every other line in the poem in the center picture where every other other line spelled "the echoes". So to me, that means that we would find Random Martin through the entrance. So where is the entrance? It's on the picture with the bicycle. Right above the kanji/kanatkana (?) that says entrance there is a sign that translates into "look"/"attention" and has an arrow pointing up to a strange symbol written on the pillar.

Interestingly enough that caption has a quote, that seems almost deliberate underneath it. It says:

Quote:

"No coincidence or escaped chances, chaos plans its incidents; look out then when you least expect and encounter random accidents."

hmm... I also just noticed that it says "look out" as well.

I did some research, and it turns out that that quote was attributed to Clockstop the Whys in the first qu13e game. But that symbol is the same symbol that we find on the clock face when we put the nine pictures of the clock together.

I don't know if all of this means that the picture with the bike is the entrance or the picture of the clock is the entrance. but we do know something about each of these pictures. Randomies noticed that the bike image may be stegged, I double checked and feel the same way. Also natas discovered the original image of the clock and we are able to verify that it has been photoshopped.

I don't know if you remember when I submitted kokonotsudoki one of the keys, but this was the reply I got

Quote:

kokonotsudoki [12:00, noon, midnight] is not one of the three, but it's beginning to look more like the answer.

1+2=3

She also said this about kokonotsu, and told agitated that it was not necessarily a word.

with this in mind, I did submit 10:30 as the keyword (I mean subway tickets have time on them...) and this is the reply I got:

Quote:

10:30 is not, one plus two is three.

Notice no mention that it was beginning to look more like the answer. She so far, she has only said that when we submitted kokonotsu and kokonotsudoki.

Anyway, I think the clock will reveal our next step. I hope I didn't overstep my bounds by posting such a long e-mail, but hey, it's not like you've had a whole lot to read on this thread in the last couple of months anyway. Plus it's no new solves, just looking at the ones we have from a different perspective.

But I really feel like we should take a few steps back and try to see Random Martin has been trying to lead us rather than play a guessing game with Melpomene. In fact reading the last letter that was written, I don't think we should really assume that Melpomene knows Random Martin's whereabouts anyway...

EDIT:
So looking at the clock again, maybe it's not pointing towards 10:30. Maybe it's pointing to 10:31, which would make more sense because October 31st is Random Martin's birthday. Also three of the six dates that we found in the tab names of each image (three of the nine were not dates and spelled kokonotsu) Anyway, three of those dates are are 3110 but have different years. However past that, I don't see anything in those three pictures that would lead us to any other conclusions...

*shakes fist @ punkbass* just when i thought i was free
from falling down the qu13e hole again... Cool

okay, i'm completely obsessed with the bicycle jpg & have tried a few possible words.
i don't have a huge amount of knowledge
with this steg stuff (being a mac chick) so, can someone tell me - can
you use numbers as well as letters for the password on a steg?

(& for any mac users check out isteg)

also let's start collecting a list of password attempts.

here's mine so far =

three
clockstopthewhys
randommartin
splinternails
qu13e
qu12e
quXIIe
twelve
onetwothree
sparkrent

 Pass words and observations

Well, Labfly, it was getting kind of lonely in this hole all by myself Wink

But speaking of steg (at the expense of showing my incompetence on the subject...) I noticed that Camouflage and JPHide have different requirements for destegging an image. Camo requires just a password, while JPHide requires a password and a signature. So when you desteg an image do you have to do it with the same program it was stegged with?

Just thought I would double check.

And so I can't get accused of posting this in the wrong thread, here's some Qu13e related stuff:

passwords I have tried using Camouflage:
iriguchi
jitensha
1031
3110
10:31
theechoes
ghosts
010
kokonotsu

I definitely think there is something in that image though.

Also just an observation: Here are the image names (as previously posted) with respect to their link's location:

gsh10a aixgsh hg01as
hga01s g10sha agixsh
agsixh h01gas gs10ha

There's kind of an interesting pattern here, but I don't know what it means, but basically there's three combinations of the letters 's'-'h'-'a'-'g' with one of three different numbers (01, 10 , ix)(assuming ix = 9) inserted in three different spots in the combination. I've always felt like we would eventually have to choose one from each number. Well if anybody else has felt this way, or if you've found proof of this, or if in the future we feel we have to choose so. I noticed that each of the images with the date 3110XX in them choose each have a different number in them

Here they are:
date name description
311001 aixgsh face with goggles
311005 h01gas Canister Spies
311007 gs10ha Final Lettter

Oh, I just noticed that it's also one of each of the three combinations of letters as well, but unfortunately not one of each of the three number locations...

Anyway, it may not need anything, just thought I wold throw it out there in case it made more sense to someone else or at a future time.

ARGHHH... You just had to bring this one back up, lol

I got your email punkbass... I won't be able to delve back into this one until Monday. Just busy right now. I'm not ignoring you FYI.

Good luck.

Hello.

Melpomene contains 9 letters
Randomies contains 9 letters
kokonotsudoki [12:00, noon, midnight] is not one of the three, but it's beginning to look more like the answer. contains 13 letters
kokonotsu contains 9 letters

Haha... I just remembered Randomies is a player here and not one of the characters in the story. Sorry!

so, i returned to the archive of the first go round of qu13e - and we
were over thinking it then (and perhaps now)
go here and check out vandino's solve for that jpg
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12969&start=150 it was "13"

i'm now going to mull these w/this in mind and would love to have some
company Wink if you're interested here are the jpg's http://www.qu13e.com/

and some number translations http://sp.cis.iwate-u.ac.jp/sp/lesson/j/doc/numbers.html

Yes! good to have some company here again!

I've been looking at some ideas as to where this clock might be pointing us to. I'm starting to think that rather than the numbers meaning anything, maybe it's the two pictures that the hands are pointing too. I don't know, I haven't been able to find anything interesting about those images yet.

I think there is a great deal of information we are missing out on in this image as well.

Notice the gun silhouette at the bottom of the page. I also tried looking at the sub-text at every which angle, and didn't come up with something. I think it might just be silly gibberish with clues thrown in. Such as seeing the 345 under the word me, the number 7 under I, the number 14 under the number 13, etc.

Okay, so I've spent a lot of my free time looking at the image I posted in my previous post. I know it was talked about somewhat already (like everything else), but I went ahead and pulled out the RANDOM MARTIN part of the note (the letters have strikes through them).

Below each letter is a corresponding number.

Code:

R A N  D     O    M   M    A  R   T   I N
8 1 6  2  [13]  345 345    1  8   []  5 6

I've placed the numbers I understand underneath the letters. If I have brackets around the number it means I'm not sure what the number is.

Also it looks like for both instances of "I AM" I see the words "7 days" below.

Hope y'all don't mind if I jump in on this one. I've been reading through everything for the last week and I'm fascinated.

I think I found something too. On the "Here's where can't remembers hide" picture there's dots above some letters, between pairs.

ha in shadowslither
ws in shadowslither
he in shadowslither
wa in sleepwalk
hr in through
wa in walls
ha in what's

Hope this isn't a repeat, there's so much content to dig through it's hard to be sure.
