One of the things that's always stuck out to me is the name HUD. Since the 2nd trailer points out that he is indeed the one with the camera, it seems appropriate that they refer to him as the military (and subsequently video games) acronym for "Heads Up Display".

I'm not hearing that name. I'm hearing more these sounds:

Kitsune Ishikawa.

I think its mispronounced to a phonetic English spelling to aid in finding the name. If its at all important, and not just another authentic sounding name.

Kitsune is a Mythological fox creature. Assosicated with being a messenger, trickster, and wife / lover. Also: Kuzunoha, mother of Abe no Seimei, is a well-known kitsune character in traditional Japanese theater.

Ishikawa diagrams are part of a famous management theory originated in Japan.

(Emphasis Mine)

Edit to add http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abe_no_Seimei

Could this be a basis for our Doctor Abe?

I think this is digging a little too deeply into the names...I mean, Kitsune and Abe are both very common Japanese names. Again, the names that have been important stick out like a sore thumb (i.e. "MacDooble" or "Ganu", "Tagruato")
