Midnight = 12:00 AM, which is the first hour of the day - or think of it this way:
midnight = 12:00 AM = 0:00 hrs in military time
The day starts with zero hours, so if she's going to be this technical - there's your answer. (I'm obviously a wee bit technical. Twisted Evil )

According to Wikipedia:

Quote:
It is actually improper to use "a.m." and "p.m." when referring to 12:00. The abbreviation a.m. stands for ante meridiem or before noon and p.m. stands for post meridiem or after noon. Since noon is neither after noon or before noon, neither abbreviation is correct (although the length of the error is determined by the smallest unit of time — 12:00:01 p.m. would be correctly notated). Similarly, midnight is both twelve hours before as well as twelve hours after noon, so both are ambiguous as to the date intended.

If I tell you the contest ends today at Midnight, then to me, that means 11:59 PM + 1 minute, or 24:00 if you like.

When Is It Midnight?
Is it tomorrow morning,
Or is it tonight?

Thanks for all the entries. I know I promised to announce the winner tomorrow, but I decided to delay that until Monday.

Thanks for waiting so patiently, I was away and have bronchitis. I have narrowed this down and hope to post results by no later than Friday morning. Right now I am looking at more than one winner. I think I will have 3 or 4 total.

Jamie loves Teddy revealed, plus Haiku winner announced? Could it be true? This day would be so amazingly special...if I were in any other time zone. But alas, I must go sleep now. The night wears on. As I stare at the wall, fleeting glimpses of past lives flash from the corners of my eyes...from the very corners of my existence (oh, but you who have never loved!). And I wonder, what Gods in their general synod decreed this to be Haiku, and not free-verse prose? I lay in wait from my lair made of man's bones and dreams (all the same in their frailty)...hoping but always denied...

 From Ireland
a small town in Europe.

A bunch of forumers were dyin',
Cause the wait for the winners was tryin',
No longer in Haiku,
Verse went simply askew,
With people trying to find rhythms with 'Lion!'.

Didn't work out so well.

Cloverfield Poetry
too educated for our own good

I wrote a Gilbert & Sullivan Cloverfield parody for the Cloverfield News poster giveaway - by virtue of being a play on "The Major-General's Song", it's in a rough iambic octameter.

You can see it at

FIRST WINNERS IN CONTEST
more are to be announced

First, thanks to everyone who submitted a haiku.

Second, thanks for your patience. The list of things keeping me from doing this includes a very nasty virus on my computer which manages to cause it to automatically reboot every so often. I've given up tracking it down on my own and have someone looking at the computer tomorrow.

In the meantime:

The first winner, This one gets a special award because I saw it early and thought it was hilarious. After this one, I stopped reading them until the end, because I didn't want to be prejudiced. If I'm not mistaken this one actually uses only words from the trailer.

I will miss you Rob.
How can I even survive?
You're like my main dude

Ok: I can't help it... I really like this one from Duckie (so sue me- it just captured the way I felt after those first posts from jaime to teddy)
Quote:
She says she loves you
with beautiful words, online.
Oh gross. Infection.

and I award Lovek one prize for these META submissions because I love META:

Quote:
what, me worry? please...
it's just a giant monster.
where's my camera?

fifty-thousand posts
and nary an ARG in site.
anyone feel dumb?

wait 'til JJ says
this is the first monster porn
bad robot, indeed

And I want to give Mr. Toasty a special award for the trout haiku:

I have to say that judging this is very difficult. There are many good entries, but I don't want to go broke buying everyone T- shirts. Smile

Winners, please PM me your address and tell me if you would like an unfiction shirt or a slusho shirt and your size. I'll order the shirts to be delivered to you directly.

I think I can maybe do one or two more: both of those winners will be entries based on the movie. The META awards were added by me because I liked them.
