Re: Danforth

Yep - according to the wikipedia page for that story, Danforth was a grad student of the professor mentioned in the diary. They were both on that expedition, in which most of the people were killed by mysterious somethings. Danforth looked back as they were fleeing and saw something which made him go insane, although he eventually recovered (sans memory of what he saw) and became a psych prof at Miskatonic U.

Are we supposed to find JJ's sanctuary somehow?

At first I thought so, but now I think this was just a memory dump by JJ and he will give us more clues to his sanctuary later. However the JJ comic character does have a strong aversion to fire, so maybe Antarctica will figure in somehow? But wait, Smithy is the one who first posted about Antarctica Google Earth, so I really dunno. I mean, what does Smithy know from Antarctica??

Unknown could be Jon

Why do you say that, in light of the saveme.mp3 audio? I got the impression that Unknown was one of Smithy's "friends" "associates", and Smithy was attempting a less-than-legal deal to try to fund his travel. Smithy's a bit of a grifter but not a villain IMO.

Nor I on all these occult sites. Welcome to the world of ARGs! Smile

Something interesting about the rash of March 1966 UFO sightings - Tettleson says he's glad he's leaving soon, because "this'll go on for weeks" - yet the activity seems to have dried up (relatively) after that. Maybe they followed him..?

That was a big mistake. When I posted I had only skimmed the previous post and didn't read or listen to what you posted about Jon. I went back and started reading this from page one and taking notes on Smithy's flickr site and reading all the pages linked to from here. I think it's going to be a great game and I wanted to make sure I understood it correctly. I just now got through reading and catching back up and saw how stupid that looked. I edited my post so it wouldn't cause confusion. Sorry about that.

Heh, don't worry about it Sylvia... I am generally awed by your ARG-fu on a regular basis. This one is going so FAST, no sooner do I finally feel caught up than Smithy goes and posts something else.

Yep, there he goes, right on schedule... luckily nothing too big yet, just something about an old hermit that he's going to go see.

Did anybody notice that on the last diary page, March 11 had the year 1666 instead of 1966? I googled that date but didn't find much. Could just be a typo - I notice old Uriah was prone to the odd spelling error. Smile

I didn't notice it until you pointed it out but the entry for March 11 is 1666 not 1966. Good catch.

Also there is a new file at http://www.mindspring.com/~smithy111110/

tettleson 1.wma

Here is a transcript for those who need it:
Quote:
FBI agent ?? FBI Tape 1-1x ?????

Professor This interrogation will be brief. You just tell us the location of the artifact.

Tettleson: (laughing and obviously very old) Young man, I've been hounded by the likes of you for decades. Even when your grandfather was in diapers. There is a select few I will tell, and trust me son, you're not one of them. (laughing)

Crowley begged for it. Parsons begged for it. Hubbard is still begging for it, even now, long after he faked his death in 86. I know where it is and I don't use it. Doesn't that tell you anything?

I have my Gaia Stick that keeps me alive far longer than I should have lived. I should have died decades ago. But, I will remain alive long enough to make sure no one even glances at that book. (coughing)

Hawkins! Hawkins are you listening?! I know you are. That book is not for you to use and I know why you won't try and force a location from me. Because, even now, you're still scared of me. You're still, scared of me. (laughing)

Maybe Tettleson is the hermit Smithy is talking about.

You have discovered my sanctuary. It is a place where I may speak more freely. I still have empty areas of my memory - perhaps you will help me remember.

Check my sanctuary periodically for more correspondance.

Wondering if I can set up some kind of website/mailing list that JJ's e-mail get forwarded automatically to...

'nother JJ Mail

Sorry for the double post - keep checking my mail to find JJ has sent more stuff... I'll collate these somewhere tomorrow, but in the meantime, here's some intriguing stuff. Subject line: "[INTERCEPTED]"

Quote:
[MESSAGE INTERCEPTED]

From: 345-12342342234212SPLATfbi.gov
To: 234872673453-28234SPLATpublic.tt.org

Frank,

Regarding "My Favorite Martian", I found an episode that's really funny, if you're into black comedy. The episode's name is "It's So Beautiful North". Uncle Martin gets his head stuck in a pail, and when he finally pulls it off, two of his ears remain stuck in the pail.

RSL

PS. 978-0922915910

Not sure what tt.org is, and surfing to it redirects to lip.net. Smithy's picked this up too, adding "Don't bother with the e-mail addys. They're already gone." More numbers to decode though...

There's also a new file in the ~smithy111110 directory:

http://www.mindspring.com/~smithy111110/helpme.htm

Umm, don't think you'll need a transcript for that one... Shocked

Don't know if this is correct or not, but adding the numbers from surveillance1.htm to http://www.imdb.com/title/ will take you to info about a movie.

tt0094862 = Child's Play (1988)
tt0105165 = Prelude to a Kiss (1992)
tt0094593 = 18 Again! (1988)
tt0093418 = Like Father Like Son (1987)
tt0076054 = Freaky Friday (1976)
tt0033712 = Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941)
tt0120601 = Being John Malkovich (1999)
tt0086873 = All of Me (1984)
tt0096380 = Vice Versa (1988)

Hey, does Smithy already know about JJ's sanctuary, or did one of us tell him about it, or what? I'm wondering how he saw the "helpme" vid. (Which was a great way to wake up, btw ... even tho there is a bit of a squick factor to getting what could be construed as a booty call from an AI Laughing )

My point is if Smithy knows about the mindspring directory in his name, then he knows that we know he's bought videos from this "tt" place, or that JJ did so using his name. Wouldn't he mention that?

Jon Jones' Email Address

Nice catch on the tt = imdb, Sylvia.

I'm assuming now that when we "solve" something in this thread, it counts as a solve. If we have circumspect evidence/research though, it may still be worth e-mailing it off?

Poop! I've been posting his messages her all the way through, and completely forgot about that! How unprofessional. It's jones.is.jonSPLATgmail.com. Sorry!

That's ok Scribe and thanks.

I'm not sure and I may be over looking the obvious but I can't find any connection between "My Favorite Martian" and an episode named "It's So Beautiful North"

However the number 978-0922915910 is an ISBN number for the book The Octopus: Secret Government and the Death of Danny Casolaro by Kenn Thomas and Jim Keith.

Ahhh, of course: It's So Beautiful North. That had me confused for a bit too.

Yah, I'm confused. I was thinking about bringing it to Smithy's attention that JJ has a video receipt with his name on it, but if he already knows about the sanctuary then he would already know that too. Which begs the question of why he hasn't said anything about the receipt, which in turn makes me wonder if he knows more about JJ than he's letting on. Dunno

I can't figure out any significance of that book - as it's about a conspiracy that doesn't seem connected to this one....

But the same authors have written extensively on our topic, including a book called "Saucers of the Illuminati." Perhaps there is something there. Otherwise, i can't figure out the purpose of the ISBN.
