Want weird? I woke up at 5am and was hit with the idea that Smithy is really a humaniform robot (a la Asimov) - only from Mars of course Razz, and with part of his "soul" or whatever removed. Say, the more "moral" part, that would keep a robot from doing something like what Smithy did to Petey ("Unknown" on JJ's audio). It wasn't long after that 2nd audio was posted that Smithy's typing got a little squirrelly, after all. Could be Smithy is having his own little meltdown due to either his actions with Petey, having to repress/edit his own memory of those actions (or having it done to him), or both. Then there's the Smith/Jones name thing, which of course could be nothing, but why would JJ name his sanctuary after Smithy?? And as was posted way back in the beginning, smithy111110 decodes to
smithy>
which looks an awful lot like a computer prompt to me.

This is all total crackified speculation, of course, but as it kept me from going back to sleep for awhile, I feel compelled to inflict it upon somebody else. Twisted Evil

I was thinking some letters might be substituted for others, for example "fluster" -> "cluster" and "yooz" -> "boot", but that's just as sketchy. I think you may be on to something though with the synonyms. I looked some up last night:

softeners - buffers?
freelancer - mercenary
ferret - search, flush
resonance - echo, vibration
fester - rot (ROT?! oh please please baby Jesus please.... Jetpack )
zt4r7 - got me, but looks important

Got a lot more than this obviously, the problem is narrowing it down and it may not mean anything. GAH.

That new audio... DOCTOR Smith? He sounds EXACTLY like our Smithy. Is he, or do we have a doppelganger on our hands? I bet he's our guy, and wonder what happened when he went to talk to the head honchos about what they were planning to do with JJ. Like maybe they did something to him. Poor Smithy.

Green people? Yes, something very squirrelly going on in Pueblo Nuevo.

(Sigh) Maybe we're not meant to solve the second half of that JJ message after all. It's just too convoluted. Let's see what happens at the new volcano...

Edit: With this new audio, I'm tentatively scrapping the Smithy=robot idea, because the Dr. Smithy one fits too. The user prompt
smithy>
is something JJ would have seen plenty of if Smithy were a researcher on the JJ project, and the audio implies they worked quite closely together. So maybe Smithy's and JJ's memories were both wiped by the CIA or whoever, and JJ is trying to reach out to Smithy (possibly his closest human contact) as best he can.

Ooh, that's right, I forgot about that. Embarassed Could very well be... so Smithy took off with JJ, or part of him, the "moral" part that kept him from doing icky spy things, and put him... where?? And then forgot about him? Or Smithy put him somewhere, and then the CIA got to him (Smithy) and futzed around with his memory. *all confused again*

Not sure how to turn that into latitude and longitude, not got Google Earth on this PC. Maybe someone else can? Initial analysis: are we supposed to add a minus sign to one of these so that Smithy is in the Western hemisphere?

The best that I can figure out is it's Caracas, Venezuela. The airport would be Simon Bolivar International Airport (CCS) but it's not cheap. There is another airport called La Guaira (LAG) but not much info about it. It may be private.

The string numerically is 42 21 37 58 71 5 20 86 which again could be coordinates ... '5' could be 'E' but there's nothing there to indicate north or south.

Another flight just popped up on Expedia for $1205, leaving at 3:10pm and arriving at 9:55pm. I emailed, let's hope he can swing it...

I think this resolves to 42 o 21' 37.58'' -71 o 5' 20.86'' which is Massachussets Institute of Technology.

Also, Apparently Tettleson was visited by some Men in Black. Read the Wikipedia article - apparently, the primary civilian investigator of this particular crash ALSO was visited by some men in black and immediately clammed up. He died 5 years later.
