Email from Jill of STG Well, I emailed her, but didn't tell her why I wanted the wand. I just said that
I had been looking for a wand in Aglaura, NJ. I figured I'd play it safe so I didn't
tell her about CTW or Phyllis or anything. This is what I got in response...

Sorry, but I don't live in Wisconsin anymore, even though I do still read comic books. I was born in Madison but moved to right outside of Chicago a while ago. It's like a different world here but I'm getting used to it.
That wand sure seems to be stirring a lot of people up out there. I've received dozens of e-mails about it in the past 24 hours. Actually, it had the same kind of effect on my teammates. Both Brian and Terry got weird about the wand when we all split up to return home. They both seemed to think they should be the ones to hold onto it but I wasn't letting go of it at that point. Later, when they were home they seemed
OK about it though, kind of like they forgot how much they argued about it before. Boggles wasn't along so he never even really saw it, except for the pics. Now that we know it's not part of the game we've been debating over what to do with it. I've had it locked away in a strongbox since I got home with it because it kind of weirded me out right from the start. I can't really describe it, it just gives off a funky vibe or something. I don't really like it too much.
So anyway, tell me a little bit more about it and why you want it back so badly and we'll take it from there.
Jill
So why do I want this wand? Any ideas? I'm afraid that if I tell her the whole story about Dale and the guides, she'll think I'm some crazy wacko.

Maybe, if we can get Phyllis to go along with it, we can tell her that the wand was stolen from the Hollow Needle, and that we are trying to help recover it?

I knew someone would have a better idea than I could come up with

I contacted Phyllis and asked her what she thought...

I'm a little hesitant to tell this Jill about how we are helping dale and why we want the wand. I don't really know much about her and she might just think I'm some sort of crazy wacko. One of the other investigators thought perhaps we could tell this Jill that the Wand had been stolen from the Hollow Needle? I didn't want to go forward with such a plan without consulting you. I know its a bit dishonest, but we need this wand to help Dale and Sarah! I feel kind of guilty about lying to the poor girl, although she sounds almost like she wants to get rid of it because it weirds her out. Maybe I should just offer to buy it from her? I don't know. What do you think Phyllis?
She replied...

This is very exciting news! I'm not at all sure how to proceed. One wants to be
honest and above-board in all of our dealings to avoid feeding the darkness.
Let me consult with Wes and Sam and see what they think. I will get back to you
as soon as I can.
Sincerely,
Phyllis

hmm couldn't someone just mail Jill and say they are a PM and pretend that the wand is part of a game (the same type of thing she is playing) and she's wrecking it for a lot of people, so she'd better go put it back! hehe
how would she like it if we thieved all her STG artifacts?!!

Phyllis got back to me...

I have spoken with Sam and also James and Chris. They agree with me that we
must not be devious in our approach. Being honest, does not, however, mean
revealing every detail of our situation. We all know that when we start to tell
everything we simply look insane. Perhaps, you can say that it is a specially-
made magical tool that is required to assist someone in desperate need and
would she be willing to sell or, even, lend it so that it can fulfill its
purpose. That's the truth, isn't it? That's the suggestion from our end. The
rest is up to all of you.
Good Luck!
Phyllis
So I'm going to try to explain this to Jill without sounding like a freak. We'll see what happens.

barter the floating maiden Those kids were really in awe of the floating maiden.
How about convincing Phyllis to exchange it for the wand!

Of course, the right answer is to offer to help them in their intended geocache find and then swap.
/me boggles at the idea that the PMs thought ahead to include geocaching in CTW, or that CTW is a splinter of STG....

Coven test.
The coven you are joining has high standards, they test their initiates before
they are let in with puzzles and trials of observation. Three items were scattered. You found two. The wand is the third one. You eventually figured out where it was supposed to be located, but all you found was an empty three..
The STG had been there, just before you by, say a day.

Instead of invoking the mystical, keep it simple:
Tell them that you're playing a game, too. Part of the endgame are three things. This is one of them. They can relate, no?
I would discourage lying. I think we're at the point of the game where we're intentionally being made aware that good rules and evil drools. I think that means that our willingness to lie should have a very high threshold.
And, again, offer to find their object and swap. They can accept or decline. If the PMs want us to do some geocaching, the offer will be accepted and we're on our way.

Chicago trip for the wand! So who's near Chicago? Jill wants to schedule a pickup of the wand within the next day or two. I'm gonna be in Northwest IN (30 min south of Chicago) tonite and tomorrow so I can make it. Anyone care to join me?

Varin,
Well, believe it or not, I have no problem accepting what you tell me about this wand. I've got some first hand experience about the effect it has on people and things, starting with my teammates when we first found it and now with what happened yesterday. I have to admit to being a little surprised at how many people have contacted me about this wand. It made me start to think it might be worth some money so I took it out to show it to someone who might know what something like that's
worth. Before I even got it out of the house though, weird things started
happening.
First, my cat went a little crazy, hissing and howling at me as I was holding the wand. She's never acted like that towards me. I set the wand down and was trying to calm the cat down when the phone rang. I picked it up and a deep voice said my name and nothing else before hanging up. I can't prove it was related to the wand but I've got this weird hunch that it just all seems to coincidental. I was still going to go and see if I could find out what it was worth and maybe even sell it quickly but, again, something strange happened. I couldn't find my car keys. And I don't misplace things like that. My keys are always hanging in the same place, and I could have sworn I saw them there just a short while before this. I spent a while tearing my place apart and couldn't find them, eventually giving up for a period.
The cat was still acting weird so I went ahead and put the wand back into the metal strongbox I had it in. Wouldn't you know it? The cat stopped acting so weird almost immediately and within fifteen minutes or so I found my keys, in a place I swear I looked before. I just don't understand.
I know one thing though - I want this thing out of my house as soon as
possible. Since it seems so important to a lot of people out there, one of you is more than welcome to it. I can't afford to ship it to anyone and I don't really want to wait for you or anyone esle to send me money or anything to do it. So listen, do you know anyone around Chicago that could come and pick it up? I wouldn't mind meeting someone and giving it to them (assuming I can get it out of my house lol) but it's going to have to be in the next day or two or I'm liable to just toss the damn thing.
Get back to me and let me know as soon as possible.
Jill

I'm in Milwaukee, so about an hour and a half North of Chicago. Not sure what the schedule is like for this weekend, but if we can get a better idea of location and timing, I'll see what I can do...
