Ladders. And Swedes. Well, not the Swedes with big honking hooters, they're alright.

All joking aside, I think the point of the original post (IMHO) was to point out that real life interaction, while entertaining to those playing the game, could be interpreted by others as something completely different. Hell, if my neighbor was part of some sort of fetish group and 23 circus clowns started playing Twister© in his backyard, I'd be freaking out about it. Lucky for them, I'm Canadian and a wimp -- ergo, no firearm nearby.

While Lazlo wanted this thread to die (and the issue about the specific event should wither away, as all has been revealed), I find the discussion interesting (as a grassroots-PM-in-training) to see where the 'thin line' might be as far as immersiveness goes.

Back to the joking: I'm telling you, if some 36DD blonde wanted to snuggle up to me, I wouldn't be scared at all. Unless I found her twig and berries. Then I can't account for my actions.

Graffiti Ring Leader

First of all I wanted to apologise for the consternation I caused all you peeps out there. (Dia that is conSTERNation not conSTIPation elelelellelele)

I confess I was the Graffiti Ring Leader. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

One night I was thinking about a lovely visual that Sally (aka PHYLLIS, LOVE YA BABE!) had written about the sparks of light that the game pieces created ,who had them, where they were located and how it looked like a ring to her and how maybe we all needed to circle to the globe somehow...well one thought led to another and all of a sudden I *visualised the ring on my mailbox. I wanted to connect with the rings lelelele

The nightmares and dreams were real though, I tend to be a very visual person and CTW seeped in....

I asked about six peeps if they would like to play and have some fun and come to find out many had the idea already and was wondering how they were gonna go about it. SYNCHRONICITY
I just wanted to add more mystery and be creative at the same time.

THANKS AGAIN FOR PLAYING WITH ME!
SORRY DAVE FOR THE BACKLASH

My apologies to Addlepated and all for scaring them....

And I agree with Jamesi it has brought forth some really interesting topics

BTW the 307 design is really a great design and would make a lovely bracelet!

*NO PLAYERS WERE INJURED DURING THE EXECUTION OF THIS PRANK
this prank was not encouraged or paid for by Dave or the CTW foundation

Sunny,

In all honesty I was a bit more scared for the PMs than for myself! I didn't imagine PMs flying all over the country to plant clues, but I felt it would be reasonable if there were a PM in a city where a couple of players were located that he or she might make the trip across town. However here in Texas, where we're all armed and ready, I could just see an accident waiting to happen.

Anyway, I'm not flustered about it... I thought it looked like fun! My hub gets the credit for wearing the tinfoil hat. Laughing

It seemed pretty obvious to me that
1) immortal beings weren't really using the internet to inform us of their existence and "need for secrecy"
and therefore
2) they weren't really flying around to parts of the US to leave graffiti.

If that were true, then what - in the real world - would account for this? It seemed even less likely that Dave was doing it, since he was coordinating the game from a home base, presumably.

So, it was simple: people were simply saying that it was happening. And posting fraudulent pictures to support their tale.

Which was totally cool in my book. I toyed with the idea of taking a picture of this peculiar circular rash that had broken out on my back...but thought that it might muss things up a little too much. Wink

Safety versus fiction

My point is not one of anti-americanism. (Even though the concept of safety seems to differ between the continents somehow.) Anyway, my point is about fiction and about life. What makes ARG and similar stuff interesting at all is because it enables me to experience things I dream of experiencing in real life.

However, I do not think that life has to be entirely safe. If I had to choose between "safe" and "interesting", I'd go for "interesting". ARG has the potential to make my life more interesting and possibly more unsafe. I have done a lot of stuff similar to what Lazarus did, just to give these experiences to other people as well. And of what I have seen of the consequences, it has all been good.

(And, no, people don't get shot in Sweden because they've sneaked around in strange places during the night.)

Hey a fellow Texan...homeland of my birth..yes and I am familiar with Texans and their guns...(ok i left this wide open..oop did it again...)

Anyhoo I think that We Americans were exposed on 9/11 to what the rest world has to been "more used to" We have stepped into the world reality and yes we are more paranoid as such. In that regard we had been in a state of bliss untill that point. So now things are different and it is something that we have to adjust to.

So you see we do own guns and we do want to protect what is ours, but as was noted in history when the pioneers firstsettled this land many many more peeps were killed by accidents with their many guns,by themselve or by their neighbors, than killed by Indians(eep i have indian blood so dont get me started) as far as I can make out that is still happening, the accidents guys not the indians.
so for future pms to be sneaking around painting rings on players mailboxes might shorten their life spans considerably.

Dmax you should have a doctor look at that rash... are you SURE you didnt get degged?

Trust and distrust

Well, I do not think you have stepped into reality - at least not the kind of reality I am (or want to be) familiar with. And the NRA existed far before 9/11.

What this world needs is more trust, not more guns.

There. I said it. Now hit me.

/me shakes head, I should probably let this thread continue to die its natural death... but I have to add one thing, while the actions of September 11 may have increased awareness that we do not live in a perfect world there are other reasons to question the stranger on the doorstep. Those Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on the door may actually be a couple of thugs looking to do a home invasion as soon as you open the door. And it happens in any sized community.

However on this I have to firmly believe that the PM's being the intelligent people that they are to create these wonderful worlds for us to explore are also intelligent enough to ask players for cooperation with those items that might be taken wrong by the people next door.
If a stranger painted the mailbox the nieghbor might call the police, but if I stand out there painting my own mailbox I may get odd looks but be left alone...

Believe me my neighbors think I am strange already! Esp. when I painted not one but two graffiti rings to help out one of my co-conspirators (Thanks for the "Rush"guys and the help) they are still out there!!!(just like me)

Yes , as an artist ninja, I attack unsuspecting surfaces around my home with different shades of paint. Generally I use a paint brush for my underhanded excapades but have been known to grab whatever is useful in my sphere of existance. Sometimes I attack businesses but the colors are much brighter and it is very lucrative for I get paid for my WMP. I have been known to do unsuspected paint-bys on my friends homes as well.
Yes I create random acts of beauty.
SHHHHH keep my secret safe will you?
(um I could enlist you...we could start a base of operations in europe if you are up for it?)
edit** sorry I forgot.... LELELELELELELELLELELELEELE!!!
