Sylvia might be onto something.

The backgrounds are named as follows in order:
door
gardener
biggarden
garden
jardin
gardenia

Tried a few combinations in the user/pass box, but nothing so far.

Has anyone managed to make progress with finding the user name and pw in the clues and text we were given?

Let me paste a segment of the Two of Diamonds' IRC visit, along with a suggestion, followed by a spoiler tag.
Two of Diamonds wrote:
<JaeDom> 2D, are the answers right in front of our face?
<TwoOfDiamonds> The answers are always right in front of your face.
<TwoOfDiamonds> Chances are, you've overlooked them them.
<waitress2> them them? so the double words are meaningful?
This, of course, means that we should be reading the pages very carefully, looking for repeated words, correct?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Repeated words are as follows:
self (repeated on http://www.silverladder.com/diamonds/2d/darkhall2.htm)
with (repeated on http://www.silverladder.com/diamonds/2d/darkhall4.htm)
important (repeated on http://www.silverladder.com/diamonds/2d/darkhall6.htm)

Thus... self with important.

username: self
password: important

Credit for this goes to jjmfdl for noticing the repeating words initially, and NeoManicXZ for putting two and two together. Smile

ART

Simple version: go to silverladder.com and click on diamond. Below, click on 2 of diamonds card...every page has one. When reading the messages on each page, the word self is repeated (self self-importance) and later the word important is repeated (important important). Keep clicking diamond card, and last page asks for a password.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
name: SELF
pswd: IMPORTANT

You will be shown a video asking for proof that you can do better than someone else's art.

I sent this photo and a message that art would not exist without critism.

What did everyone else send?

I Didn't send mine, I dunno when I will though, if I can sift through some pics and see what i can come up with!

I have a feeling that we are suppose to keep looking for some things. perhaps solve the fill in the blanks. I dunno. I'm still a bit confused. Two of Diamonds did say that nothing is irrelevant. I dunno...

There is another option: "OR SHUT UP."

I know a couple people have opted for this option, myself included(... kind of). I sent an email that says (among other things) that I try not to criticize art, because I believe in the same philosophy, and I know my art skills are severely lacking.

My opinion

I believe the message 2D is trying to make is that as a society we have become too critical. When ever we experience something that doesn't fit our narrow view of the way we think it should be we criticize it. Everyone is intitled to their opinion, but people put too much emphasis on their own opinion and don't respect the opinions of others.

This is what I sent 2D:

Concerning your message in 2D Diamonds Assignment.mov, if I criticize anything it is my personal opinion. Even if I believe my creation is better, it is still my personal opinion. Opinion is not proof of anything. It is just opinion, no matter how many people agree or disagree.

This is not a criticism of your video, it is just my opinion. I like the message it conveys, but then again, it's just my opinion.

SunnBurn

This was his response:

You agree with me more than you think you do. Thanks for writing.

2D

I think you hit the nail on the head. That's why I interpreted this week's message as.

This is indeed taking the shape of an ARG to a certain extent, but what I like it that is seems like we are going to get some kind of weekly message or lesson on art, or culture, or life or something. I mean, they'll make us think or analyze something.

I think it's cool that in everyone's quest for the user name and password, a lot of what was being said wasn't overlooked. Some people learned Orwell's six rules for the first time. Very cool.

When this whole thing started, my attitude was kind of "prove it to me," like "I dare you to impress me."

I'm sold now. After this 2D material and the lesson I think that's in it, I'm sold. I totally want to meet there people now. I'm like the rest of you rabid fans

Also, having said that, I hope people aren't overlooking the music in all of this. I love it. Some of it isn't quite my speed, but I am impressed nonetheless.

Sorry if this belongs in another thread.

2d's reply

This is 2Ds reply. (to me saying that Art would not exist without criticism).

________________________________________________________
Art would not exist without a creative impulse. All criticism creates is
credibility.

Great photo.

2D

I suppose that is what I was trying to say, just didn't put it the same way. There is art. But without everyone's view of each type of art (whether good or bad) it would be nothing.

a.watch.....I am not sure how to take your response. SHUT UP? You can not honestly say that you have looked at a piece of art, whether it be a picture, a song, a sculpture and said "I like that" or "I don't like that". To say you would never criticize art would be almost impossible and to just say shut up, would be pointless.

Oops.. I realized I emailed 2C instead of 2D last night about the video. No wonder I didn't get a reply! I didn't have much to say since I lack artistic skills. I admire all the artwork.

I couldn't figure out the passwords so I cheated and used the forums. Twisted Evil That's a good point, you know, SHUT UP! Let me do my thing. I love the whole DIY theme, too with Fugazi and Rollins, etc. It's like, put your time into doing our own thing rather than whine about what I'm doing. Idea

This is what I sent him -

Quote:
About your message in your video - criticism is a personal opinion. Saying "A" is better than "B" is just an opinion, not a fact. Remember - better/worse is all relative.

I doubt I could outdo anything more than a stick figure - my art skills are severely lacking. Perhaps I could do a bit better with a photograph, but still, I'm lacking there too.

Anyways, as they say - "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

And I sent him this picture: http://redct.info/images/old_images/6.jpg
