Re: CGI

I know everyone is trying to figure out what the monster is, what it looks like, etc...

Are we all so focused on seeing shapes in smoke, wondering why it appears to glide, bipedal vs. multipedal, etc... that we're missing a very obvious conclusion that could be drawn???

The CGI of the monster isn't finished or is relatively poor at this point, hence the appearance of gliding?

If the project is truly "lower" budget, and is being released in January (the graveyard of non-artsy motion picture studio releases), then perhaps the CGI department has a limited budget and thus some of the shots are deliberately blurred or shaky cam'd to hide the inadequacies. Thus, when we slow down and go over and over and over on a small segment, we're going to notice these deficiencies and outthink ourselves.

It seriously looks 'Zilla-esque and bipedal to me, and my wife thought the same just looking at it once. As for any other aspect- aquatic breathing, spawn, etc...let's just remember that we are glimpsing into the realm of one man's imagination, the man who gave us living smoke, polar bears, the Others, and much more. Anything is possible.

If you focus too hard on the details, you miss the big picture.

Agreed!

I was wondering if we should create a new thread for people to post their own pictures on how they see the monster in this new HD trailer. Their interpretation of what they see. Do you think it would be a good idea? I am curious to see all these strange images people see in the video and more over I would like to see who is closest to the actual monster when the film or official images are released.

Is there a reason the the Cthulhu direction isn't getting much play?

It seems to work for me, because of the (apparent) type of legs the monster has, but Cthulhu also does not bob around -- he kind of crawls and slides.

The Cthulu theories died out, or at least for alot of us, is when JJ Abrams strongly explained that this is an Original story about an Original creature, it isnt a remake or retelling of any other story. So we take him for his word and believe that this is something new.

I would love to see a Cthulu movie. But I dont think this is it

(there is a movie coming out called Cthulu, Ive seen the trailer and it isnt based on any monster, its a drama.)

After watching that video repeatedly (looping), something comes to mind. Those legs are just too tiny to support that body. If there were only two legs. So if nothing else, I think it has multiple legs. Imho, it looks like a crawfish. It has a head and shell that look like a crawfish, imo several legs.. we are just seeing one pair, including the bits underneath a crawfish that sorta look like that.

Not saying it's just a killer crawdaddy, but it may have many characteristics of a shrimp/crawfish/crab (among whatever other attributes we've not seen yet).

It looks like those legs couldn't support the body either, if that's most of it, but I don't think it's a crayfish because it's slightly greenish in color, and most importantly because it looks like it has actual knees. Either way it's still too early to tell.

I outlined the legs (at least as I see them, and as others have shown in sketches)...

Tell me what you think!

There are many greenish crawfish, shrimps, crabs, etc. I wouldn't let the color bother you. I just don't think those legs are large enough to support the critter. They look about the size if they were part of a 6-legged critter.

I cut and pasted what I could see of the monster together here:

Ok I'm not making any assumptions I'm just pointing this out. If you look at the poster, the monster makes some serious marks on the buildings on both sides of the trail. So obviously he's to wide for that path. So the monster walking foward isn't a possibility cuz he would knock down those buildings.

However, if he was walking sideways and looking at the camera you can see some definite resemblances to the Giant Isopods people have been speaking about.

There's a link to a little Painting I did. Just an idea.

And yeah if you assume the the CG isn't that great and that it will get better, it could possibly look even more like an Isopod.

The biggest thing is the eyes. There is a giant ball of light before it moves. Which could possibly be the eye. This would also explain the two "Eyes" we see in the horse and buggy scene. And the "Monster" in the explosion scene.

Well I hope this helps.
