90 Day Jane
Trailhead or Ugh?

(via MeFi)

Quote:
Day 90: The Decision
Today is day 90. How did it become day # 90? Well, I'm not really sure except that it's better than day 91.

With roughly 3 months to look at my life from a truly temporary perspective, I wonder what realizations i'll have. Will I suddenly become a sentimental person? Will I tie up loose ends? Will I rekindle relationships long forgotten? I doubt it, to be honest. It's not like I have terminal cancer or something. It's a truly selfish thing I do now (was that Dickens? ha ha) and I plan to live my life as I always had, but with this new perspective. I'll go to work, I'll have a social life, I'll date, I'll celebrate and then I'll check out.

I guess, though, on the day I decide this I should probably say why. Though, I simply can't define it. That's what this blog is for; to define through public record "why"?

If it's viral, it's up there in twistedness. If it's not, that's pretty sad. I don't know which direction I'm leaning towards right now (viral or not), but thought it was worth a mention over here.

If it's a game, it's an original concept but if it's real we gotta warn a brotha.

Not sure how i feel about this... but more than likely a social experiment, or just flat out drama queen trying to up the ante on Lonelygirl.

But I nearly wet myself (pun intended) when i noticed someone who left a comment on day 86 named Savage Henry started a blog saying "I'm going to poop my pants in 90 days"... ROTFLMAO.

eta: LOL some more: /b/ is watching.... posted in the comments!!!

If it is real, I'm to lazy to listen to the banter of an emo to care, if it's an ARGG it's way too real feeling.

none the less I'll still watch it

If this is CF it's probably the most tasteless and perverse I've heard of.

The tenor of the writings is not too different from that of a classic suicidal person, having arrived at the decision and preparing for it. They feel better, the planning is becoming a pleasure, and they are dismissing whatever pain would evoked the desire to kill themselves. If fiction it's been researched fairly well, if fact it's classic. A side note: they say they aren't depressed nor in any trouble in any way, but this denial is part of the 'solution' to rationalize. This is often felt to make their declaration of intent seem more rational, and not cause anyone to seek to 'help them' - if there's nothing wrong, there's nothing to be helped.

If there's any question of this being real and any form of intervention proposed, the domain name 90dayjane.com is registered and thus needs some form of contact and records with the holder - unless they give 90 days of grace to someone that is forging the delivery of fees in some fashion. If valid info is made for the registration it'd be easy to find the person, and even if not then valid payment means is almost certainly NOT by cash and thus traceable. From this I would conclude:
  • This would be an incredibly stupid way to document your suicide if you intended to succeed.
  • If the registrar, host, Blogspot, and YouTube are made aware of the content and it's not a known fiction it will quite certainly vanish and possibly without any notice of why from any of those parties. One would HOPE one of the parties would at least inform the world if it was a fiction or not, even if such info was very hard to find.
  • If the content remains after notification but no response or notice is given then it's probably a fiction. I have a hard time believing YouTube especially would allow such content considering it's itchy trigger finger with many other far less sensitive subjects.

If this was some 'anti-suicide' campaign by any group, it's likely to fail miserably. The world is full of people with a base desire for entertainment with a sociopathic disregard for others - as long as there's a truly insular way to experience it. Unlike the Milgram experiment, the internet allows many to cause grief of others without a real and tangible exposure to it's effects. People have in very real cases of online suicide goaded the person to do so and often in more graphic or demeaning ways than the victim intended.
If this was a way to get attention by an individual it will likely work, but with a fairly high potential for far less enjoyable repercussions. In a grand irony such a person may actually want to commit suicide following such an exposure and I suspect would succeed.

Just when you think things couldn't get more bizarre...

I completely agree.

Doing a fiction like this makes no sense to me. If the ending was that she didn't commit suicide and ended up loving life, then it comes full circle and hits them in the ass.

I don't know but what I see is the message that it's okay to attempt suicide and that if you announce you're going to try, you'll always get help which is in most cases false because as much as we'd like to think so, people tend to not pick up on it, even if signs are blatantly obvious.

I hope the authorities are called because in this day and age with suicide rates, you can't be too cautious.

definitely viral imo, how many attractive (albeit rail thin- struggling actress goes here) girls shop at stores playing bossa nova in the background Rolling Eyes

regardless it is in poor taste- and really an indictment of how superficial our society has become- i don't find her (or her character's) faux intellectualism appealing and almost groaned when this whole charade was brought to my attention.

or- its genius

or- its real

What disturbs me most about this is not the content of the blog itself but the comments left by people for her. It seems like 50% of them just tell her to do porn as a way to help herself. Fiction or not its managed to make me lose yet more of the little faith I have left in society.

Truly, very disturbing blog. Reading her entries people become more voyeouristic they are... And asking for the ways of fullfilling her plans is disgusting. But nothing is more disgusting that the reaction of her readers...

Love her recent comment on YouTube:

Looks like someone has called her out as this being some Art School project (she has the ability to edit the comments or remove them, but has let these all play out.....). Also, she registered on YouTube on Feb 6 and it's a Director account.

I notice a few {ARG/CF}-ish elements - clues to her location and identity.

But honestly, there had better either be:
a) a puzzle soon as to prove its an ARG
b) confirmation of CF

Or cops totally should know.

You know, Human Pet avoided having this problem by having "FICTIONAL HORROR STORY" very prominently displayed in many places. Now you get to understand why...

You can not edit the comments people make on your videos, you can only remove them. The ability to edit such postings is fraught with the risk of libelous and slanderous treachery, and thus most commercial sites will not allow it. (This is also the greatest hazard of forums for the users, moderators, administrators, and owners alike.) That being the case they simply only allow deletion.

I had Human Pet very much in mind when I mentioned the likely removal of the YouTube content were it not overtly disclosed as fiction. If I understand correctly Human Pet's original YT account was suspended because of complaints (did the original not have the declaration?). I'd expect the same reaction to this if or when they found out about it.

If nobody has already, I'm inclined to notify YouTube and perhaps others, because if this has any real basis it's far too serious to overlook if you are any sort of empathetic altruistic human.

i'm gonna go on a bit of a limb here and say this is her:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.myspace.com/coolhottybaby

It was posted several times in another forum, without a source stated- the girls look similar enough to me in build/ lips/ nose - both have piercings on their body- that I am inclined to believe it.

coincidentally she just turned 24.

Could be an ARG, could also be another online show, viral campaign for whatever. Doubt that it's real, though.

So it was first discovered in MeFi? Mm, the last time I followed up on something at MeFi, it suddenly died on us (nomoreparents, anyone?)

I don't think that MySpace girl is connected. She's been around since November and too many people seem to know her. Of course, that doesn't mean anything, and it could be a case of multiple personality disorder, one part keeping the MySpace while the other part running the blog, but I don't think they look that much alike, either.
