Finally something I'm an expert in. Laughing

I've been a pro horse trainer for 20 years (including working in manhattan). Totally agree with HerOdyssey... that horse is pretty much "bomb-proof" (a horse term we use to descibe horses that don't spook... it's a fitting term here).

Could you imagine the liability of having a horse pulling tourists that couldn't handle typical NY traffic (backfiring and all)? If the carraige horses spook at anything, they would be sent back to the off-island barn and turned into lesson horses. It's just not worth a lawsuit...

I could completely see a carriage horse trotting around trying to figure out where to find grass in NYC after a giant monster attack. Smile

As for the blinders... just to correct an early poster... blinders do not make a horse oblivious to everything around them. It helps them to keep their focus forward when pulling a cart as horses can see behind them. If they were constantly distracted by the cart "chasing" them, it doesn't allow them to stay focused in their jobs. They still hear everything that's going on. Modern training techniques have pretty much done away with the need for blinders and you would only see then used as needed by most trainers. However, in the classic "Dress up my pony and go for a carraige ride" they are part of the uniform....

The moment I saw this footage I thought to myself, that this is probably at the begining of the attack.

The SOL head flying at them made them aware for the Sh!t hitting the fan. So like all couragous protaganist they decide to head towards the source of the attack.

On the way they notice the horses and carriage, which prompts Rob "Are you still filming?"

Hud: (in a bit of shock and amazment) "Yeah, people are gonna wanna know... how it all went down."

You can still see some debris raining down. The driver of the horse ran for cover so the horse is left alone. You can see destruction happening aways in the background. Thier clothes seem to be clean (as appose to how dirty and bloody they get later)

So I think this happens early

I don't know, I think it takes place at some point into the action, like a quarter into it or so.
Based on "People are gonna wanna know...how it all went down," it seems like he knows that something important is happening. But, near the beginning, he would still only just have the impression that, 'holy shit, a big whatever-it-is is throwing around the SoL's head!'
At this point, it would appear that he has a better understanding of what's happening.

Now that would be a funny scene in this movie. All the humans running like mad and screaming. Meanwhile, the horse isn't panicked, he is just looking for the Great Lawn. Smile

Thanks for posting the info about horses.

The answer is simple, its to create a certain effect. almost everyones dead or dying, mayhem, chaos, etc... and here you see horses just doing what they were trained to do, theyre trotting thier normal route with an empty cart just so we can be like"oh sh*t, everyones dead" it creates an eerie feeling.

What eventfarm says is very true. I've been involved with horses myself for 10 years and I concur with everything he/she posted.

However, why has only one person mentioned the Slusho! connection.

I bet only the humans drink Slusho! and the horses do not *cue spooky music*

I got the feeling that this is very near the end of the movie. Look how many people were running around during the beginning of the movie...then the streets are empty when the horses are strolling down the street? Where the hell did everyone go?
