[META][UPDATE] So... "Cloverfield" it is... Now that footage from the trailer has leaked, post your thoughts on Bad Robot/Paramount choosing to go with "Cloverfield" as the official title.
I personally have some warming up to do to "Cloverfield" being the official title. But from a business stand point, I can understand it. We all know how absent minded the general audiences are nowadays. Four months is an eternity to the ADD generation and choosing to go with "Cloverfield" is a good reminder of how excited everyone was when the trailer played in front of "Transformers". So, not the best title they could've come up with, but understandable nonetheless... just my 2 cents...

I agree with you. I was hoping for either 18-1-08 or Monstrous but when discussing the build up with others (non ARG/E followers) I have usually referred to it as the Cloverfield movie so at the end of the day it's probably the safest choice for JJA to reach the widest audience.
The next 2 months are going to take forever.

I'm just pleased we've finally got a title! Now at least word of mouth will hype this up, I think the way the ARG aspect or whatever this advertising is called, viral or not, has been pretty slow with vast amounts of time wasted, Id have liked steady weekly progress to keep us all going forward, but after reading the review of the new trailer I am excited all over again as i was after trailer 1 all those months ago! just watch the new people flock here over the weekend! I anticipate a few flamings! (Kraker sharpen thy tongue, the noobs are coming)

I know. Hopefully the ARG picks up and we at least have that to tide us over. At least there will be more JAT videos, I guess. I don't know. After the striptease video was posted I sort of lost interest in that site because of how corny it was. (Come on, when she peeled off what seemed like 50 layers of clothes, I could literally hear her arguing with JJ about doing something more 'convincing') What I really want is for Tagruato to evolve a little more...

hmmm... cloverfield... Yeah, Ive been following this "ARG" on Unfiction since early August, but due to my busy schedule was always like a day behind all the new stuff, so really never had stuff to post, although I did almost create an account to call out Colby a while ago. But, my two cents on this is, its going to take some getting used to the title OFFICIALLY being Cloverfield. Which is kind of wierd, considering this entire time, it was known as, well, you know, Cloverfield. I had always liked the idea of just calling it by the date, that seemed really original to me, and I personally thought it would be cool in like two years to pop the movie in and watch it in retrospect kind of looking back on something that really happened (yeah yeah yeah, im not crazy, I know it really didnt, or should I say "wont" happen, but its just kind of a novel concept).
Ohhh and Im with you on the wanting Tagruato to become more developed, hopefully soon we will get more info on stuff.
All I can say is, im glad the title isnt Slusho! related. I think people who havent been following the ARG/E or who are just casually looking for a movie to go see, would be like "Hey, lets go see that monster flick, I think its named Slusho!". I think that would have turned a lot of people off.

At least, with what looks like two scientist killing off a person in the trailer (and moving him/her towards a big fire?), maybe Tagruato will have some "hands-on" involvement in the film? Sending their "Cleaners"

I gotta say I don't think the title was always Cloverfield, I thinks it's something that Abrams conceded on later. He even said (at Comic-Con) the real title would be coming, and thats when people where calling it Cloverfield . He may have had poor test results or read forum threads that didn't like names such as "Overnight" or "Found" etc. I personally think it's a good move, people have come to know this as Cloverfield so why not. Get a poll up someone for thumbs up or down on the title.

Cloverfield isn't trademarked by anybody but Cumberland Farms.
See USPTO records for serial number 75334107.

Ditto John Locke! 1-18-08 would have been nice, but Cloverfield isn't bad.

Ok, so now we have the name (apparently)...what is it supposed to signify? The title should have some tie-in with the movie. Why does the Government designate this incident/attack or whatever "Cloverfield"?
I don't think this angle has been analyzed too much as everyone thought the name was a placeholder.
Hopefully future updates will shed some light on "Cloverfield"...either that or JJ just punted rather the deal with creating a unique title.

Well if you read the opening text, the government is referring to it as "case designate 'cloverfield'". So the title is just what the government refers to the incident is the most likely answer.
