[QUESTION] Who (What) do you want the monster to be?
If you were JJ

Everyone has so many ideas on what the movie might be. If you had to choose, remake of a movie or not, what would the monster be?

I'd have to say it's the Statue of Liberty. Idk I mean It's on the poster, it's in both trailers (I think it's in two...), it could turn 'alive', it's huge. But that's just me.

This thing comes from the water. If you've seen even one documentary about ocean life, you'd know there's some scary things down there. A mutated version of one of those would be wicked.
As long as it's not a dinosaur or any sort of lizard, I'm happy.

When the first teaser arrived, I was really hoping it'd be something mammalian in nature. (Actually, I wanted it to be something like a humanoid lion way before I heard the "It's a lion" debate.)

Pretty obvious from the slight bits of canon already set that it has to be at least somewhat aquatic. While I would've loved something like that popular "whale monster" fan art, I'll take pretty much anything so long as it's sort of upright and not just another lizard/dino thing.

Not too into the idea of a squid because, frankly, that's kind of a cheat as far as giant monsters go. Last thing I want are thirty scare scenes with a giant tentacle creeping up on people.

Been looking up Leviathan pics...something of that nature -- where it's got a mythical, mystical quality -- works for me.

Since it's not going to be Whales on Stilts (which I think is an utterly awesome idea) - I'd say something that is an amalgam (is that the correct word?) of fish, lizard and Ankylosaurus. Because Ankylosauri are kewl.

There was a paddle at the party KPA? Kappa Phi Alpha? Anyway, The Kappa is of Japanese lore. It has ties with monkies and horses, of all things. You can read about it here http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/kappa.shtml
I couldn't link the pictures but they are worth a look!

Well, if I'd be J.J., I'd say the monster is hidden in everybody of us. Abrams knows, there were a lot of various monsters in the history of cinematography, their imagery is pretty full of clichés. So if he doesn't show the monster itself, but shows us managing with this catastrophic situation, it would be really Abrams-esque.

I really, really hope its Cthulhu. That would open up a whole realm of possibilities for other H. P. Lovecraft creations. Plus Cthulhu just looks cool.

Well, since you said "who," it should be Danny Glover. But a "what" should be a lion or Godzilla. Smile

Kappa are human-sized, though. And you can eaken them by making them spill the water from their basin-shaped skulls. Not exactly ctiy-destroying material. :/ [/japangeek]

I too hope it's something Lovecraftian. I'd settle for Dagon.
