someone mention me???
Actually, Vanishing Point did use a phone answering hack of sorts. I believe people ended up calling Microsoft asking for an "employee" (IG character) by name. I think it led to another clue towards "her" identity (which was part of the grand prize ARG - figuring out who she really was).
Anyway, that was clearly appropriate to the game and it was being done by a very professional & experienced company in the genre.
There has been NOTHING in 1-18-08 to suggest there is any cause/effect by players digging through every minute frame/website. With the exception of the jamieandteddy access, there has NOT been any puzzle-solve-to-advance-the-game in play that I have observed. I think this is all great backstory to make the movie experience more "real" to those of us who have found all the MySpace stuff and the love triangle angle. But for the casual movie-goer (which will be my husband) he will have none of that backstory when he sees the film. Will it make the movie any better or worse for him? Only time will tell. I knew about TLE ("the Lost Experience") but didn't really go deep into it; he knew nothing about the Dharma background stuff. TLE didn't change either of our perceptions about "Lost" (the TV show) the following season.
I think the website giving you a phone number and then you get to hear an outgoing message is really cool. Hacking into the system would get you what? If the purpose is to find out more about the company then you might want to find out more about the group that is trying to bring it down and find out what information THEY have discovered. Cause their purpose is probably to dissiminate it (probably on a timeline set by the PMs).
So, that's just my personal opinion. Take it with a grain of sugar and a

Are we still searching for extensions? I'm sure someone's noticed, but somebody posted a list of 6 digit numbers in another thread. Probably nothing.
EDIT: That thread is the 'Email from AKAParallax' thread.

You are making an assumption that akaparallax is IG.
And you have to also assume that there would be a really good IG reason for an email from akaparallax to provide extension numbers for a Tagruato phone system to someone out in the internet world.
Always ask yourself, "would this happen in the real world"? Or "is there a good IG reason for this relationship?".
If the answer is "NO" then either it isn't connected, or you have really wonky PMs who have no concept for storyline connections.

Our dark lord was pointing out that someone posted a bunch of random numbers, as far as I can tell (or anyone could at the time) the numbers were random and didnt seem to have a connection to akaparallax.
Edit: They were the file names of the mp3s on akaparallax I think.

Precisely. I'm Sorry if I made it sound as though these numbers came directly from an AKAParallax correspondence. And, once again, they're probably nothing as well.

UPDATE:
The Tagruato voicemail mesage has been updated again:
Quote:
Thank you for calling Tagruato. All of our lines are currently busy.
If you are calling regarding the [Katsume Ichiban?] memorial service, all seats have been filled, and registration is now closed.
For all other concerns, please leave a message, and one of our representatives will find you as soon as possible.
If you don't want to call Japan yourself, I have recorded the voicemail message here: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/2007/12/tagruato-voicemail-memorial-service.html

Maybe this is one of the "good people gone missing" from the handwritten part of the memo that some people received with their Slusho! orders.

Could this be viewed as at least partial confirmation that the letters in question are legit?

I think the Name is Kitsune Ishikawa, or maybe Ichikawa.
[edit - moved more in-depth discussion of what I got out of the names to the fun with names thread]

Well, there's definitely been some action at Tagruato, but the PMs aren't giving many leads. The name could be a big kl00, however, the name is so hard to make out in the message. It's like, if someone tells you it's one name or the other, suddenly the message sounds like it's saying that name. And all the names turned up by UFers so far are legitimate Japanese names as well...I though that it could be:
Natsumi
Tatsumi
Kitsune
Kitsumi
Katsumi
Ishikawa
Ichikawa
Ichigawa
Ichigao or Ichigo
Hitsugaya? I'm sorry...watching too much Bleach.
I would call it using Skype, but it won't let me get free calls on new accounts anymore.

Works for me.
Also, this Ichi...kawa? guy must've been pretty high up on the corpoate ladder if they're talking about his funeral on the answering service, right? I get the feeling Tagruato would sweep "lesser" people under the rug. :/

idea Ok so from what I've heard the Slusho orders come with some newspapers packaged in them. Maybe there is an obituary for this guy in one of them, anybody with recent slusho items who can confirm this. Or is it all in Japenese
