[SPEC - QUESTION] - What was in the tanker?

This is a thread just for the tanker in the new clip. I believe it is a Tagruato tanker, simply because they focus on it, and the logo looks darned close.

Grumpypants inside? I don't think so. Here is what I think...

The tanker is full of seabeds nectar most likely. And MGP was following the tanker. If not SBN, something else is in there, but MGP knows, and followed it into the harbor, and then attacked. It gives a solid reason for him (or her..) to come into NYC proper. Otherwise, it's a bit far-fetched imo (and always was to me), that of all the hundreds of miles of coast, it just *happens* to come ashore at a major city. I think the tanker was full speed, it couldn't catch it in the open ocean, but once it slowed down in the harbor..

And then when then SoL wouldn't respond to his advances, it only went downhill from there...

agreed, except for the tanks contents.

on the record i dont think Grumps gives a flying eff about the nectar, they thought they found another nectar bed, and maybe they did, but they also woke up Grumps in the process. He's not chasing the nectar, he's chasing the Aholes that woke him up. The slusho and nectar are reasons HOW this could have happened not WHY.

I dunno.. I'm thinking that this creature is a lot smarter than people think.

I mean think about it.. what are the smartest animals in the ocean? Dolphins? No, whales are smarter. Modern scientists believe they are about as smart as a chimp. But.. a massive huge whale (mutated) with a massive huge brain.. who knows how smart it is.

What's scarier.. a monster.. or a very intelligent monster?

And there is the possibility that it laughs.. in the trailer.. meaning it's pretty evil *and* smart, if it's true.

And primate related... I don't think it's a laugh.

I'll pimp my animation here if anyone hasn't seen it, confirmation(?)that it's a Tagruato tanker.

What we do see of the monster does look too big to be carried inside a boat, I like the theory that it has followed the tanker.

Maybe the tanker was leaking, thats why the monster followed it, and why its in the harbour?

i think of a real oil/gas explosion with fat barrels flying in the air and exploding a few seconds after ( this is obvious from the trailers).....part form that, whether or not there's some seabed nectar in it......who knows

As mentioned in the other thread, the largest crude oil tankers are larger than the largest skyscrapers...

I saw that, but while they're long enough, they're not necessarily deep enough to fit him inside, and there's the problem of getting him inside there in the first place.

I don't think it's a slam dunk certainty that the monster was inside the tanker, but it's an interesting theory. It would help explain something that always baffled me: how does the monster arrive in the middle of the harbor of one of the most densely populated areas in the U.S., seemingly without having ever being detected on radar or sonar as it approaches? Well, hiding in the belly of a Tagruato tanker would accomplish that. According to wikipedia, the average harbor depth is only about 24 feet, so that doesn't offer much room to hide.

As far as how they would load him in, of course, I'm not sure, but maybe some of that nifty Bold Futura technology could produce cranes or other transport devices that could accomplish the task. And as far as the depth and length of the tanker being able to accommodate the monster, I can't imagine the creature would be larger than what something like this huge ship might hold. Not only is it several stories tall above the water, it also extends several stories below the waterline.

I don't have a problem with the theory as a plot device, they already do it in at least one of the King Kong films. It's possible the boat could be as big as that, it would mean the logo was absolutely enormous though.

Yea, I thought of the King Kong parallel, and that made me kind of dislike the theory. Who knows, though, maybe JJ would do it as sort of an homage to that classic. I don't think Ganu had any plans of putting it on stage and telling people "Step right up, see the 8th Wonder of the World!", though. Laughing

Good work. Very convincing.

The monster might have started out smaller and grew in the tanker(after being fed DSI), Teddy does talk about Tagruato making something.

The explosion and and fireballs could be a tanker full of oil not monster or DSI.

This is another one of those things I don't think will be explained in the movie, Randy or Teddy might though in the "ARG".

My response to this would be..

1) The tanker could be carrying all 3
2) In the clip, NY1 is already talking about a tanker sinking, so the explosions and barrels could be coming from a second ship, belonging to any company, as the monster escapes the tagruato ship(because I don't think there would be just 1 ship in the harbor.)

We like the theory that the monster outgrows its "tanker environment" and capsizes it in the harbor, but the most likely scenario is probably that the his grumpiness followed the tanker into the harbor.

We further speculate that it's possible that the grumpy entity was considered dead and being dragged into the harbor by the tanker. Something awakens the monster and what was once thought to be dead, now is alive.

Thank you. Have a nice Day.
