program compiled

ok I got the thing to compile after fiddling with it for a while, the solution was a lot simpler than I though initially.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
to make it work, copy the information from the Codec.cpp, and the Keyloop.cpp into their respective .h files. Then compile the whole project with visual studio. You are greeted with a command prompt asking for 2 keys and your input and output files. use the keys from the diagnostics/test_keys.txt and the input file name is test.zai. I made the output test.txt, and I got the following text

"This is just a test message.

If you can read this, it means that the ZAI+6 level codec device is
correctly built and has successfully decrypted this text.

Stay tuned for an extremely important transmission within the next
few days......"

if you dont have the needed compiler let me know, I will send you the executable.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

SADNESS:

OOG msg from PM:

While we still have lots of stuff on the list of
things to add to Xenomata, the simple fact that there
is only a handful of active players involved and that
implementation of the new puzzles will take a lot of work,
we can no longer justify investing the time needed to
keep the game moving ahead.

This is all a bit sad, but at least it was quite a lot
of fun while it lasted, and we hope you've enjoyed it.

xenomata.com will live on, but transformed into a development
platform for anothor kind of game. More about that later.

Cheers

I hope the pm intends to send it to every one that sent him an email. I thought we had a good group playing. There were a lot of really good puzzles in this one too

rather disappointing. i hope the wasnt expecting there to be an explosion of activity in the 2 weeks the game was up. especially with the rate it was progressing.

if there had been something new every hour, of course it woulda exploded. but thats way too much to ask of anyone. these things are usually slow in developing, and im not too happy they decided to throw in the towel already.

edit: especially after i spent all day yesterday teaching myself c++ to try to compile that damn program. bah!

Shocked

The 'active' players represent the tip of the iceberg. Many people lurk in games and follow the action. It looked like there was a lot of great stuff happening with this and an implosion is so disappointing. Crying or Very sad

FYI: It's highly recommended to have all your puzzles and the story lined up and ready before launch - so you are not playing catchup if your active players solve things faster than you expect.

Greetings folks, the PM here.

I realize this is a tad bit disappointing, and I fully agree with you there.

To prevent any misconceptions, here are the facts:

- xenomata is strictly a one-man-show, so it's only yours truly who's been busy handling concepts, graphics, videos, audio, programming... and so on. And there are no sponsors involved anywhere.

- the ARG-version of xenomata was originally only intended to be a side project, while the primary objective was (and still is) the making of a full-blown 3D PC game, roughly based upon the same synopsis, but with a different focus (and nope, it has nothing in common with 'Descent' or anything like that ;)

So, what happened here is that due to the whole ARG thing being so incredibly fun to do, I quickly ended up in a situation where I spent 100% of my available time and creative energy on it, instead of the infinitely more massive task of working on the Xenomata 3D game.

Desperately needing to get the priorities straight again, I had to terminate - and made the call to do that sooner rather than later.

Hope you understand my choice.

Cheers

Konamouse is right, i'm coming out as a lurker to say this game was quite interesting and I was tempted to join.
Good luck with that game, but if doing the ARG was so fun, perhaps consider making your next project one as it's main feature? Hope to be seeing your work on these forums again.

xenomata.com changed!

xenomata.com has changed. It now says "Not yet". Could the ARG have picked up again?

According to this post I would say definitely no, though the hope is still there. I mostly lurked on this one, but would love to see it come back.
