Celebrities Play ARGs?

Do you know of any celebrities that play ARG's? So far I only know of one and it is Pete Wentz (i think).

Is that what people got in the dark knight ARG? I might be wrong, but I'm still interested in seeing if people know in any other celebrity that play them.

Not sure about other celebrities but...
Promo versus pr and publicity

What Pete received is a promotional gift that gets sent to celebrities, press and general media people by the Promotions/Marketing people.

There are three steps involved in promoting anything and three different groups of people that do them:

Publicity - which is where ARGs usually fall in, along with arranging interviews and other press relations.

Public Relations - getting tickets out to charity groups, business heads and arranging for sponsorships.

Promotions/Marketing - genuine marketing. You send gifts to people that will help you sell your product directly (in this case, a movie), you also do traditional ad campaigns and all of the other usual ways to market a film.

There is always some cross over in these campaigns... If publicity is running an ARG, then they will generally have some swag from Promo/Marketing to put out. Promo/Marketing usually sets publicity up with some of the things they need for the ARG (ads and such, if applicable.) Public Relations can get things from Promo/Marketing for corporate sponsor gifts and sponsor events.

But over all, I wouldn't bet on most publicists that are running an ARG/Viral putting out full Promo kits through their ARGs. I'm hoping that I am wrong and someone will post that they got one of these swag boxes, and more so that many people have gotten swag from a lot of different ARGs. Very Happy

Does Trent Reznor count? I don't know how he could have decided to create Year Zero as an ARG without having at least followed an ARG, if not actively playing them.

But of course, every unfiction player is a celebrity. Didn't you know that? Wink What is more exciting to me is the number of players who become Puppet Masters of their own games.

I agree with Rose - I think Trent Reznor definitely counts. I bet there are several others who play or are involved in ARGs in one way or another.

And since the genre appears to be growing quite substantially, and it's a great marketing tool to promote just about anything, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a lot more celebrities hop on board and take part in ARGs in the coming months/years.

I like to imagine that my ARGs are being played by every model in the Victoria Secrets catalog.

... Why are you looking at me like that? Is it something I said?

The awesomely amazing Seth Green apparently likes ARGs. He did an "ARG-lite"/contest called "Dude Where's My Butterfinger?" (which I loved) not that long ago....

I've heard hearsay about Tim Kring of Heroes being into this (also before the Conspiracy for Good time)
