From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Mike Siegel (born 1945) is an American radio talk show host. He was the host of the late night talk show Coast to Coast AM from April 2000 until January 2001. He became a frequent substitute of the show's host, Art Bell in late 1999 and early 2000, and when Bell announced his retirement, he recommended Siegel to succeed him. Siegel maintained the format of the show that Art Bell had created, but his personal style was very different, and the show became less popular. Early in 2001, Bell decided to return and Siegel left the show.

We've seen this before, e.g., Ganu received the "Khodorkovsky Award" - and, here's a bit from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky (Russian: Михаи́л Бори́сович Ходорко́вский; born June 26, 1963) is a Russian businessman, a former Komsomol activist who became one of Russia's oligarchs at a very early age. He was later convicted for fraud and tax evasion and received a 9-year sentence. As of 2004, Khodorkovsky was the wealthiest man in Russia, and was the 16th wealthiest man in the world, although much of his wealth evaporated because of the collapse in the value of his holding in the Russian petroleum company YUKOS.

On October 25, 2003, Khodorkovsky was arrested at Novosibirsk airport by the Russian prosecutor general's office on charges of fraud. Shortly thereafter, on October 31, the government under Vladimir Putin froze shares of Yukos because of tax charges. The Russian Government took further actions against Yukos, leading to a collapse in the share price. It purported to sell a major asset of Yukos in December 2004.

These names could be clues, but they could also just be jokes.

Also, I've been keeping the possibility open that Slusho! is just a red herring, as EL Noobacabra suggested. When I read the article about quantum physicists, my first thought was: Oh, so, it's inspired by Lovecraft after all. Or Terry Pratchett - something came in from the "Dungeon Dimensions." It's still a possibility.

The teleport thing is interesting - makes me think of Watchmen again. I'm still holding on to that theory as well. But, there's only a few months until Sir Grumpypants makes his big splash on Broadway, so I don't see why they'd be hiring kids fresh out of school right now... time-frame doesn't work.

Assuming that Tagruato/Ganu recently discovered Dr. Grumpypants, then biophysicists and the satellite make sense. The satellite is used to locate & track the creature; and, the biophysicists would be needed because of the sheer size of the thing - and, also b/c of the utterly unique nature of the organism (no specialists in Monster Biology).

It could be that Ganu is building/creating the monster, and that would explain the need for biophysicists as well. How do we make something that big walk? Can a single massive heart pump blood throughout the body of something that's the size of a building, and standing upright? etc. The problem with this is the same as the teleportation idea - there's not enough time. If Tagruato had recruited this crew years ago, then ok, but not a general call for fresh young minds 2 months before the monster attacks.

The timing for both of these is weird - he's hiring physicists now, but the satellite was a project that took seven years to complete. Hurm...

Interesting! But I think the name is a coincidence (or really jokes), because this Mike Siegel couldn't graduate last May (like in Tagruato headlines), he's a Professor already.

I've to say, I'd laughed a little after I read about Khodorkovsky Award. I mean, there is no such Award, and Khodorkowsky is imprisoned now. But why did they put his name into the game? He has an image of an rebell against the state, but he has also made a lot of money in a unknown us ways, so the Khodorkowsky Award is perhaps a metaphor for ambivalent power.

Hate to blow my own horn, but my previous point was kinda overlooked, and I think it's still relevant.

EDIT: A forum search brings up another Matsui related to this ARG: Hideki Matsui. Remember him? The baseball player from the Hawaiian newspaper stuffing?

Btw, satellite "Hatsui":
発意 (hatsui) means in Japanese "idea, suggestion, plan".

A great plan, hm?

And: isn't it weird, the recent news are without date (only in url you can see the date). Why that? Webmaster strikes?

Perhaps the same plan as Akira Okinawa (hehe) does mention: "Bold Futura is cutting edge and innovative. It has a plan for us all."

...

His "As a citizen to Japan and the human race, I cannot think of a better place for their ideas to flourish" is also very symptomatical...

It is weird and really sloppy, it makes players lose their trust.
There is still a small doubt in me that this is still part of a real hack, we've never got so many updates all at once, and they don't show the date. I'll treat everything as IG but because of the PMs fault I'll only be 99% confident in the Tagruato site.

Oh, it's interesting opinion! Really, what if Tagruato isn't Tagruato anymore?...

And please, people, what is "quantum coup"? What does they mean? Rivalry between Tagruato and Bold Futura?

Quote:
Ganu Yoshida is the CEO of Bold Futura's parent company, Tagruato. When asked about this "quantum coup", he answered, "Now that we have all the best minds, we won't need to worry about competition.

Do the people who write for ARG's/Viral Marketing belong to the same crew as writers for Lost, Letterman etc?

No. BoldFutura is part of Tagruato. I think it just means it's a coup against Tagruatos' competetion to get all the top minds.
Maybe there are new PMs for the tagruato site, that would explain the substle differences like using real names.

n a move surely to shake up the world of physics, Bold Futura has recruited one hundred of the top physics majors graduating from universities around the world. Most highly sought after was Johan Hedberg from Sweden. His internationally-acclaimed thesis on the intricate ecosystems of deep sea crevices landed him immediate tenure at his university but he turned it down for the opportunity to work for Bold Futura.

I thought physicists studied physics, not biology?

that is wierd... Confused

Much like there is mechanical engineering, bio-engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering (the list goes on), there are also sub-fields of physics. And, while it may be a small field, I imagine bio-physics or chemical physics is in fact one of these areas.

Bold Futura has recruited one hundred of the top physics majors graduating from universities around the world.

From glass helmets:
"The Glass Helmets bring together many disparate elements of the global metal scene into a sound that is fierce, often grandiose, but still earnest. Their still unreleased LP, "Hyperion and his disciples" is an album in the truest sense, with an often cryptic, but fairly clever narrative about physicists doing battle with the pantheon of greek gods in a dystopian future.

Are they trying to give proof The Glass Helmets are IG?

One of the nice touches to the Tagruato website (and Slusho!) is that the English version is so humorous.

The language used (Engrish) is often what one finds when in Japan and encounters a Japanese sign, t-shirt, or whatever translated into English or written to appeal to the gaijins (foreigners.)

It's as if the general idea is gotten across but somehow it reads (or sounds) ridiculous.

By using this style, the ARG becomes very open to speculation and whimsy.

I suspect that Robert Hawkins may be one of the physicists recently hired by Bold Futura or may already be working for Tagruato in the U.S. and is heading to Japan HQ.

There has been no indication that after the monster attacks that anyone can or does stop it.

My early guess is that if any one does, it will be Rob. (not too much of a stretch.)

Yeah, except that according to his MySpace page, Rob has a degree in Marketing.

I think a better guess would be Teddy, though we know nothing about him.

Maybe once he got hired and saw what the company was really up to, he decided to rebel against them and join The Cause.

My bad.

And thanks.

I like it better that Rob is in marketing.

Edgy.

And very New York.

And not so used to dealing with military, science, giant monsters, etc.
