Re: Why use somewhat famous people's names?

The new investor news item about the physics dream team Tagruato just hired features two names: Johan Hedberg and Mike Siegel. A quick google on both of these names reveal that these names belong to some fairly famous people. Johan Hedberg is a NHL hockey player (actually from Sweden like the one in the article) and Mike Siegel is a radio talk show host and communications expert. Why would they use these names when so far, they've been pretty good at making up fairly unusual names (Ganu, MacDooble, etc.)? Just seems like an odd choice, especially when the first google results point you directly to who these people really are.

I'd guess it's just an homage by a Bad Robot employee. Or they're using names that generate a massive amount of Google hits because they don't lead anywhere (or they want to make it really, really, really difficult).

Maybe Ganu's been using his own product, and now he has delusions of grandeur. From the story about the Lions (the little league team) and Vernon McDoogle's articles, it seems Slusho! only makes people feel like they can do anything; it doesn't actually give them the skill to do it. So, maybe Ganu has become addicted to his own product and it's made him loopy. Just a thought.

Also, the quantum physics thing is weird - totally out of step with what we've known so far about Ganu & his "dream." Biologists, Geologists, Zoologists, Oncologists... I'd understand any of those; but, quantum physicists? Why? Why would Tagruato need a whole squad of physicsts, quantum or otherwise?

They are for Bold Futura the Engineering Branch of Tagruato. To create deep sea robotics.

Anyways, he isn't forced to justify any of his actions.

With that much money maybe his personal guard is dressed like Stormtroopers, with laser weapons and all. Or are clones of himself.
Or whatever.

An official press release would *never* use the word "disaster" in that sense. You say something like "...without incident..." or "...without a hitch..." You never *expect* a disaster.

And I love the name "Akira Okinawa"... Smile

No dated headlines?

Has anyone noticed that the latest headlines from Tagruato (since the RRC response) have had no dates associated with them. Prior to that, all articles were dated. Now nothing. Although the Smilers article refers to last friday and the physicists article mentions a November meeting. But otherwise, no dates are associated. Not sure what that means, but it jumped out at me as odd. Are they intentionally trying to disconnect us from a fluid timeline of events?

By the way, I've never posted before but have been reading for months. You guys (and gals) are all awesome!

not torture, really

Yeah, no sweat. The puppy drinks 7 Slusho! and just explodes in about 1.7 seconds like the girly in the trailer. No danger in that at all. Really, he doesn't feel a thing, I'm sure.

Point 2 - Please don't let this movie be Beethoven IX - Super-sized!

good side to Ganu

Melampus wrote:
I don't think Ganu would use the monster to "destroy his enemies!" It's a pretty crude tool, no?

Also, it makes a pretty cheesy motive/badguy. Don't think JJ would run with that.

Melampus wrote:
I like the idea of Ganu doing all this testing 'on the fly' because he's gotten into something that's over his head or out of his control - trying to reverse something or protect against something. That would mean he's up against the clock, in some way, and so it would explain his wildly unethical use of Slusho! to conduct testing.

I also like the idea that Ganu has some halfway 'noble' reason for doing what he does. Writers like to give their villain some redeemable trait. Except for slasher movies, human villains are rarely pure evil. Even Hannibal had intellect as a virture.

I don't think the Slusho! history should be taken word for word, but it says Ganu followed after his mother, who was lost at sea looking for the greatest ingredient.

What if she found it, and the big bad monster is Ganu's mother? So rather than kill the beast, or tell anyone becuase the military would then kill it, he's racing to find a cure, trying everything he can, even unethically, to save his mom.

Headlines

One of the nice touches to the Tagruato website (and Slusho!) is that the English version is so humorous.

The language used (Engrish) is often what one finds when in Japan and encounters a Japanese sign, t-shirt, or whatever translated into English or written to appeal to the gaijins (foreigners.)

It's as if the general idea is gotten across but somehow it reads (or sounds) ridiculous.

By using this style, the ARG becomes very open to speculation and whimsy.

I suspect that Robert Hawkins may be one of the physicists recently hired by Bold Futura or may already be working for Tagruato in the U.S. and is heading to Japan HQ.

There has been no indication that after the monster attacks that anyone can or does stop it.

My early guess is that if any one does, it will be Rob. (not too much of a stretch.)

Yeah, except that according to his MySpace page, Rob has a degree in Marketing.

I think a better guess would be Teddy, though we know nothing about him.

Maybe once he got hired and saw what the company was really up to, he decided to rebel against them and join The Cause.

Re: Headlines

Here's something that caught my attention -

Quote:
n a move surely to shake up the world of physics, Bold Futura has recruited one hundred of the top physics majors graduating from universities around the world. Most highly sought after was Johan Hedberg from Sweden. His internationally-acclaimed thesis on the intricate ecosystems of deep sea crevices landed him immediate tenure at his university but he turned it down for the opportunity to work for Bold Futura.

I thought physicists studied physics, not biology?

BTW, Mission Cheif Kenji Matsui; another real person (or real name)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsui_Shikiso_Chemical
EDIT: A forum search brings up another Matsui related to this ARG: Hideki Matsui. Remember him? The baseball player from the Hawaiian newspaper stuffing?

Maybe slusho is a red herring, maybe it's all red herrings

Not sure if this has been discussed anywhere, so sorry if it has, but maybe all the deep sea ingredient/slusho stuff is just there to show how sinister Tagruato really is.

Maybe this new stuff about physics and satellites is what really brings the monster to life. Maybe they're trying to open open some sort of portal to another world, and the monster comes through. I think this would explain:

1. Why the monster stands up so well to the military strike.
2. Why the "heroes"/slusho tie-in is so innocent, because it doesn't actually hurt anybody.

They're other stuff I'm prolly forgetting, but I'm kinda dumb.

BTW...ever think that maybe they haven't decided what brings about the monster yet (since it doesn't seem to get mentioned in the film) , and they're waiting till after the movie to use whichever reasoning we don't come up with? Just a thought.
