I saw the trailer before Transformers and was curious about it - found another forum (can't remember the name) and then found Unfiction, and it just seemed like the place to be.
I've never played an ARG before, but I like movies and puzzles, so...

I too saw the trailer before Transformers and could not wait to get home to search the net for info. I found this site via Google.
I've also never played an ARG before, except for a failed attempt at the Lost experience. Even then I never knew what an ARG was.

My First I searched for 'Cloverfield' and found this site. After I returned from deployment and settled I heard about Cloverfield and found UnFiction!

Back when Transformers came out, he put us on to this film, where NYC was getting attacked. I didn't care. NY gets attacked on film all the time. You'd figure that NY would have some type of bubble shield over it.
THen I got into the film even more with all the buzz. Saw some videos on YouTube trying to analyze it. I Yahoo!'ed Cloverfield and came here.

Lurked during ILB (Found this through H.B.O.), joined at the very Beginning of Iris.
Played various shorter ARG's in the process. I love my UF.

Someone showed me the teaser in August. I started googling to figure out what it was about. I looked at a bunch of different sites and found my way here. This seemed to be the most informed/educated site out there so I lurked for a LOOOOONG time and then eventually joined. oh, and this is my first ARG eh ARE...well whatever it is. (although it did lead me to start looking into args...I am following eldritch errors right now)

Saw the trailer before opening night of Transformers, and lost my mind over it. About a week later went online to try and figure out what the hell id seen that night. Looked under January's movies on IMDB, and found one titled " Untitled J.J. Abrams project". So i did a little rummaging around on a search engine, think it was Google, and came upon Unfiction. This im my first experience with an ARG, or ARE, or whatever. I had heard of them before, but yet to be involved with one. Im having a blast and plan to stick around here once things are over and done with Cloverfield
p.s. Ive checked out various Cloverfield forums and sites ( IMDB, etc) and by far this one and Cloverfield Clues are the best. So to everyone here and Dennis over at CC, keep it up

Huge comic geek, was checking out the blogs on comic-con, and a few folks were freaking out over JJ's sneak-peek. On to Cloverfieldclues, then made it here. First AR(whichever), lurked for a good long time, then decided to muddy the waters with unfounded information and wild speculation. Yay!!!

This is one of the most fascinating threads I've read in a long time.

It is a testament to how much untapped potential there could be involving a viral marketing campaign. For this many people from so many various backgrounds and interests to all be caught up in the game, and from so many different directions of approach, JJ and company may have just put a nice kink in the way we look at film and television. Get involved in the story, become a part of the process, and save the studio a huge percentage of cash that could go towards developmental projects.

I found the teaser on Apple Dot Com and was hooked. Googled away and ended up on AICN. What a mistake that was. After a few days of:
It's a Lion.
No it isn't.
Yes it is!
No it isn't!!
Yes it is!!!
Your Mother's a ****** and she ***** ****'s.
...I Googled some more and found this Oasis of calm, dignity and rational polite discourse.
I've yet to contribute anything worth reading, but one day...one day I'll show you all you ****ing ****ers.
er.. sorry, British cool disappeared for a moment. Time for a nice cup of tea and a macaroon.
Quick nurse, the screens...

MeFi I think I got here through Metafilter. First ARG, had only heard of such things in passing. Since I have arrived here this game has gone from surreal to ridiculous and I now realize why I never participated in anything like this before.
