In fact... all the Sites does not really fit the Movie.
Tagruato, JamieandTeddy and Akaparallax they point to an environment commitment.

If there is no movie in January, and, instead, an environmental group reveals that it's responsible for this ARG, then I will personally torch that organization's headquarters. Then, I'd pay Mr. JJ a little visit.

There will be a movie. JJ wouldn't risk his life like that.

Hmm.... the multiple ending theory is interesting.

Another thing--honestly, I know that the purpose of this whole little venture of Mr. Abrams's is to make money, but as a personal opinion I would be very upset if there was a TV show or a video game or other really ridiculous merchandise (Slusho! t-shirts excluded, of course) that came out post-ARG/post-movie release. I would feel like JJ sold out, you know? I mean, he and his band of merry men come up with this fantastic viral marketing program, keeps all of us nerds entertained for months, and then what does he do? Markets a terrible video game where the objective is to shoot Grumpypants with a camera, and NOT an uzi?

Er.... I think you forgot DVD...?

Nowadays lots of movies that tanked at the box office made loads of money back from their DVD sales.
And when that happens, as a bonus, the movie would even be "upgraded" to a "cult movie" status.....

For some people, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

You're absolutely right, I did forget. You forget things when you're dancing between free time and studying for finals...yay, college. Confused

But since you mentioned it, here's an interesting thought for comparison: does anyone know how Snakes On A Plane's DVD sales compared to its box office returns? Did it do better, or worse, and should we use whatever those stats are to predict how Cloverfield will do in case it flops?

I realize that Cloverfield and SOAP are two completely different movies, and the ways they came to be are different, but the hype on the internets is about the same, don't you think? When you think about it, Cloverfield hasn't even come out yet, and it already is kind of a cult movie because the members of this forum and other sites are already a cult. Twisted Evil

On another note, from risk of being OT, I will say this: however the movie ends may in fact determine how well Cloverfield does on DVD. One of the ways they could get better returns on the DVD than the box office (in case it flops--cross your fingers) would be that they advertise the DVD as having different endings. Let's just hope that whoever is watching us on the forums is a really good marketing strategist (besides the ones that designed the viral marketing program) and they pick the right ending to show to us.
