Re: [NEW] Letters from Iwo Jima... I mean, Tagruato
Now in English

Apparently, three seperate people claim to have found shreds of a letter in the boxes in which their Slusho! products were delivered. And once they scanned the shreds, we noticed that there was not only a handwritten message on the back of them, but a typed memo on the front, written, coincidentally, in Japanese.

And after a long night's labor, myself and a select few were able to translate the memo, which was, this is the important part, sent out the day of the First Tagruato Website Hacking. Apparently, the company became a bit shaky, with suspicions that it was an 'inside job'. And this memo was the result.

You better enjoy it... alot of sweat and tears was put into getting it to you. Laughing

Chuai's department bureau...

As in Chuai Deep Sea Drilling Station.

I think the "incident" has to do with something getting out from the drilling station, not the site hack.

incident?

The article of the RRC is probably the incident refered to, because Dr. Abe had access to Seabed's Nectar which is supposed to be kept secret. Someone inside Tagruato provided the sample by mail, thus the surveillance procedure. As for the Chuai' departemnt bureau, this sounds really strange. How come a department could have more importance regarding commercial secrecy than the head office of Tagruato?

awesome job guys!

Question though, If this memo is from Chuai Station then why would Slusho! merchandise be shipped from or through there?

I seriously doubt its Teddy who wrote the note. If some American was working in a Japanese company and there was some suspicion of a whistle blower sending notes to the US he'd be the first suspect. Secondly, why would someone write "dear American" if it was an American writing it. Thirdly, if Teddy was working at Tag and knew about some bad stuff going on, why would he send out notes via a shipping package? He would have numerous contacts in the states whom he could get a hold of via other methods like normal mail, or e-mail or whatever. The note in the package hints at a desperate attempt by a Tag employee to tell anybody that trouble is brewing at the Chuai station. The sender of the message obviously had no way of contacting anyone in the states besides through the package. My guess is the whistle blower is a Japanese employee of Tag and will be revealed to us over the next few weeks.

So what's the symbol?
Just an inside joke?

I know no Japanese. Is this an actual Kanji character, or is it just a bad robot?

what is the purpose of the error in the title ? iwo jima

it seems to me that it was a japanese battle of some sort, but why the purposeful error? surely it has no connection with Tagruato

Awesome work everyone - you all rock!!

I don't think our Whistle Blower is the same person that hacked Tagruato. Whistle Blower talks about a "dark secret" at Chaui and good people going missing - the hack just says "Tagruato is destroying our oceans." Someone desperate enough to communicate w/the outside world by writing notes to strangers on packing material would not use their big opportunity (in hacking the site) to say something as vague as "Tagruato is destroying our oceans" - that's a very general environmental complaint - our Whistle Blower seems to know something much more specific going on.

Also, do we know where the shirts were shipped from? I don't mean in the real world, but in the ARE/ARG world? Is there any indication? That would tell us where Whistle Blower is located.

Has any trusted members of UF received these letters yet?

It just seems that the people who found these mysterious letters had low post counts and could simply be someone game jacking using multiple accounts.

I'd like more confirmation before jumping all over this as IG.

As I mentioned in the previous thread, I'll be receiving my own Slusho merch in the mail soon, so I will confirm one way or the other when it happens, but until then (or there after), it'd be nice to have some other confirmation as well.

Not to speak for our hardworking translator, but I think he was making a whimsical reference to this movie:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letters_from_Iwo_Jima

in which a bunch of letters written in Japanese and found on Iwo Jima tell the story of two WWII soldiers.

Well, according to Babelfish, it's not a Japanese character--it does translate as a traditional Chinese character, though:

="Birthplace"

Do we know Ganu's birthplace (somewhere on Honshu? Or is there a Polynesian connection? I'm not remembering)?

Or is this simply telling us what we already know, that the monster's "birthplace" is Chuai Station?

And why Chinese character?

"rusted" or "trusted"
Did you have a typo

Is there a typo? Was it "rusted" overtime or "trusted"?

Here's the Google doc in case someone can't get it ( don't you have to have gmail for Google-docs? )

Effective Immediately!

Over the next few days, because of the incident that took place, starting now all letters to the outside will first
pass through our communication center, or they will not go out. Level 1 Personnel? They will remain where they are,
making certain to read the message from start to finish. (How will they know it is authentic, this message that is
dispatched everywhere? When it is inscribed by the 貫.)

In addition, working hard/employment rusted overtime? As for the employees, they will be made to wait in their
appointed lodging facility until told otherwise.

If one witnesses an act of misconduct, and neglects to report it to the Council, Chuai's department bureau will enforce
principles and regard it as a violation. There will be no exceptions.

PATIENCE PAID OFF. HERE IT IS, THE COMPLETE TRANSLATION. THANKS TO KOZMO, MrTOASTY, JULIA, BACON ARMY, and KOSMOPOL-- McPhearson

Another quick thought -

If Teddy is the Whistle Blower, why wouldn't he contact Jamie to get his message out? If he's somewhere where he can watch the videos she sends, couldn't he also send her a message? Seems like slipping a note into a t-shirt delivery is a roundabout way of contacting the outside world - like those joke fortune cookies that say "help, I'm trapped in a fortune cookie factory!"
