People have been citing the fact that they've received shirts w/out any memo fragments hidden in the packaging, as though that counts as evidence for the recent 'discoveries' being fake. They might be fake (though, I doubt it; feels real to me); but, not for that reason. In fact, it would make sense that they only do this for a few people - if everyone got the same note w/their order, it would completely spoil any sense of 'realism' to the whole thing. Also, they know that anyone actually ordering a shirt will most likely be involved in an online forum somewhere, or at least know someone who is, so they don't have to worry about it not getting out into general circulation eventually, if not immediately.

My point is just that it makes sense that only a relatively small percentage of shipments would include this 'bonus' bit of packaging.

I'm confused - did the people who received this memo recently order their Slusho! gear, or did they get it a while ago when the Slusho merchandising first started and most people got them, and only now noticed the memo? So if people order new stuff now, there's a chance that they'll get this memo?

The note's dated 11/24, so it's relatively recent so I figure.

Actually, it makes sense that they use this method... I mean, considering the movie hasn't come out yet, and there hasn't been any public promotion for Slusho! as a product, who else would be buying stuff from the Slusho! site? For that matter, who else, other than the ARG/E regulars from here, knows the Slusho! site even exists or what it's for?

So it stands to reason that, if you ordered something from the Slusho! site, you're "one of us" playing the game. You're not some off-the-street yokel that happened to hear about Slusho!.

Or you won't be for long! With the recent Heroes exposure, there may be some Google-happy viewers out there trying to figure out what the heck that drink is that Elle had.

A quick search for Slusho may just lead them to the Slusho store. Who knows?

Not really. This game haven't been too heavy on the realism part. Just look at Tagruato site. They have a language menu, but the onlu one that works is english. They have a ton of dead links there. Then Slushu puts up a lot of senseless messages from users. And Jaime videos aren't really realistic at all (Why is the camera recording before she takes off the lens protector?)

But they do care for the impact of the campaign. They want lots of people to feel like they're part of this. If you feel like you are part of this, you'll go watch the movie for sure. So it would make a whole lot more sense to put the memo on all shippments.

I really want to believe this is real, but if people start to say their orders comes without the memo I'll lose hope really really fast.

I read through many threads in the other topic, but just to clarify, who exactly received the slusho gear, and received the shreddded paper? I believe you, but just curious.

And bravo for the translation.

Guys

They obviously wander around here and know whats going on. This is a public forum. They know most of the merch buyers are UF posters, if not readers. Even if someone orders and doesnt post here, he'll compare his stuff to what others will get, and if that differs, well they'll say it loud, wondering if they're the only ones in that case.

This is also a reason why i think the Tag website got hacked a second time, though i've only been following all this for a week...There has to be something we didnt quite get.

Besides i think the fact of having just a few memos here and there sticks more to the reality of someone who can't slip a note in every package leaving the company.

It's also obvious that the hoodie is another key. At least someone will buy it and make the game advance, those guys know this...

the incident is something different from the hack or the RRC article.

are the phrases "chuai station has a dark secret" and "good people have gone missing" not jumping out at anybody enough to put that together?

grumpypants (& co?) have already arrived and are claiming victims is what it sounds like to me.

It sounds like he's not sure what this "dark secret" is, but he knows something's up.

If he knew that the "secret" was a 600' tall monster that's eating people, I would hope he'd be a little more vocal than that.

This is also assuming that the "whistle blower" isn't on the Chuai platform to begin with; obviously shipments aren't being mailed from the middle of the Atlantic. So whatever information he has, it's not first hand and speculation only through internal information.

yeah of course thats why maybe the smaller monsters are the ones having their fun at this point. Confused

but yeah you are right the information is indirect and inconclusive.

Wow. 12 hours after I posted that final translation, and already more speculation is fuelled. I should of known, you crazy kids. Laughing

To clear up a couple of things:

(1) Yes, the title to this thread, as Doug cleverly pointed out, is a joking reference to "Letters from Iwo Jima"... Just, you know, the letters part, it being in Japan, I thought it would be funny.. *looks around pleadingly*... ah, nevermind.

(2) No, "rusted" is not a typo. The way it translated, the word came as either "rusted" or "tarnished", which simply means, in the context of the sentence, that they as if overtime is only necessary in times of working over hours. In layman's terms, they are saying that, in a manner of speaking, they will quarantine the problem by keeping all faculty members even after working hours. Tagruato is using brute force, it would seem.

(3) Oh, and to all those who thanked myself and the rest of the translation crew, I say sincerely: You're welcome. Wink

I thought the Iwo Jima joke was funny, McPhearson, really, I did.

I'd just like to point out right now to everyone that we aren't the only forum involved in this Cloverfield ARG, so don't get too forum-centric. They may be monitoring other forums that aren't as...quick as ours.

And dear god, I hope this is no gamejack. Really, I do.

I found another translation of the letter which seems to be a little clearer although I am not sure it translate everything you guys did.

LEVEL 1 EMPLOYEE SECURITY

THE ISSUE BEING IN COMMUNICATION OUTSIDE THE SITE.

2007 November 24th

DUE TO THE RECENT INCIDENT WHICH HAS OCCURED, IT HAS BECOME NECESSARY TO FORWARD ALL COMMUNICATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE FACILITY THROUGH THE CENTRAL COMMUNICATION CENTER. OUT GOING MESSAGES WILL NOT BE SENT UNTIL GOING THROUGH A LEVEL 1 SECURITY CHECK.

ANY EMPLOYEE WORKING OVERTIME WILL BE APPOINTED A SPECIFIC AREA FOR LIVING QUARTERS.

FAILURE TO REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTS TO THE CHUAI MANAGEMENT WILL BE IN DIRECT VIOLATIONS OF COMPANY POLICY AND WILL DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

Think about the typical opening scene of the monster movies: Couple of extras on some deserted place. One hears a noise, goes to check it out in the darkness, tries to scream, but by the time the other comes there's only a flashlight.

These guys could be divers or something. Grumpypants is eating them while deep underwater, so up on the station they don't know yet.

The Incident
makes too much more sence to me.

The leak of slusho! to Dr. Abe.

Didn't the report say it was mailed to him?

and then this memo woulld have gone out once Dr. Abe's report came out, Tag felt the need to check all mail.

well thats what i feel i guess.
