EDIT: this I assume is safe to post.. I was told to not watch the videos and to help Jeff. I guess it will be hard not to watch the videos. Maybe there was some weird project involving cameras that causes this "condition". Ever played that playstation game where you take photos to kill ghosts. I can't remember the name but it was CREEPY.

I think you're thinking of Fatal Frame.

...that's all I can contribute. Razz I'm new to ARG-ing, but great with random trivia!

bullerman.net/mail/

Quote:

seems to decrypt to

DAN IOWA CUT HYDE

but I cannot make any further progress.

Anybody got any ideas?

How in the heck did you get that? Great solve.

EDIT: Are we gonna keep 2 threads on this game now?

Yeah, seriously! Awesome solve though, even if I don't get it... And I, personally, don't think we need two threads.

Also natas, are you still going to leave on the 3rd?

yep sure am... be back february 1st.

dan iowa cut hyde

I wonder if we are supposed to anagram this also?
one option, Caution: Why dead?
or maybe not ..

EDIT: Apply the numbers to the obituary starting with first paragrah. That's how you get "dan iowa cut hyde' .. Dan Iowa kinda makes sense.. I wonder if that 2nd part is a false positive... it just doesn't fit...hmm

I thought, perhaps, that 'CUT' may refer to the forward slash in URL, but have had no success so far.

I think I just figured it out!

I'm back from Christmas! Nice solve with the /mail code! I tried running it through some online decrypters but no go. Edit: Ok, I was following your idea about it being a URL (the CUT being a /), and thought what if dan has an account on the server (on Linux web servers, example.com/~username automaticly goes the the home directory of the user), so I tried bullerman.net/~hyde, no luck. Then I tried bullerman.net/~dan, and got through! But I got 403 Permission Denied Sad I think that means we just don't have permission to browse the directory, so we might have a clue that points to something in this folder. The folder defently exists, but we just need to find what's in it.

We DID use the answer.zip file to find bullerman.net/videos but we NEVER used the answer.txt file for anything. I find that odd.

and the anagrams...(the anagram reference was only with the first one)
1. it Save me the tape kill Jeff
2. a theta torn I miss to reap
3. I vow you slow chest death. I sine Leo.

Great find, doug, and everyone else too. Hope you all had a happy holidays. Looks like we have a bit of time to fool around with the bullerman.net page, but I can't make heads or tails of it. Where is the site hosting from? Because if we could find a login page, this would make a lot more sense.

New e-mail from Jeff

I just got an e-mail from Jeff, in response to me telling him about how Steve has been dead for a year:
Quote:

That is crazy....I know Steve is real. I know it. Hes my friend. I knew where he lived.. I really appreciate the help you guys have given me. You guys are very smart. I would be dead already. Things for now are actually normal. I love it here with my family. They loaned me some money.... but I am scared to go back to Cedar Rapids. I will find a job and continue to show you what is happening...in hopes I still can survive. I hope you are having a great holiday. Happy New yeear!

Jeff

Jeff also signed onto AIM 2 hours ago, but I was away at the time. Did anyone talk to him?

OK, waaayyyy out on a limb here, but there is a domain sign-in on hostmonster.com. The only thing that makes me remotely consider this is maybe a possible Beast-type thing (where a player hacking in to the site was PART of the game). But for now, just disregard this unless we get evidence of it.

Also natas you don't nessicarily need to download AIM, you can go to browser-based sites like meebo.com (or even aim's site itself) once you have an SN.
