Help! I'm chatting on AIM with cstrife311 and all he will say is, "file name?" I've tried a couple of things and he won't accept anything. He just keeps repeating the same thing. I don't know what to do!!

Drats! Foiled!

OK, I was able to sneak away from work for an hour. I found the tombstone pretty easily. Walking up I was afraid it was gone already, but fortunately it was placed on the side away from the drive and out of sight. The box contained a bunch of rocks and a note...

Man! You must have been up there just before us. My friend and I went on that road trip today, and we went to the cemetery before anything else. You could see where all the action was from the street. I got all excited, thinking "Ooh! There's the mausoleum! And the tree with the fallen branch!" And then the box wasn't there. This was around... 12:30 ish?

I took some notes- the dude was DL Berry, and he passed on October 22, 1892, at 43 years and three months. It seemed unlikely that this would be relevant to the game (unless the PM's grandfather was REALLY forward-thinking), but I thought it might be of note.

Also, FaerieQueen- Have you tried something like BFG Tech, like from the back of the message?

Edit: How about adding a file extension to them? Like xxx.avi or berry.mpg ?

Just tried. No dice. Also tried Berry, 271, 311, and XXX.

Offline now...too bad. Maybe we can come up with some more ideas and try again tomorrow.

Sorry, I didn't know anything was going on. Next time try something like:

findings cedar rapids

probably not right but worth a try.

oh wait, I just thought of something. Maybe it's the double letters. What were they?

ETA: they were, I'm not entirely sure: A T C E D E or maybe A T C E D E D

here are some anagrams:

ACTED
AT CEDE
AT CEDED
DEAD ETC
DEED [ACT CAT]

An O in there would be really nice. A T C E D E O

anagrams:

[EAT ATE TEA] [CODE COED]
A TO CEDE
A [DOE ODE] ETC
DOTE ACE
OAT CEDE

with A T C E D E D O

anagrams are:

TO DECADE
AT DECODE
DATE [CODE COED]
[EAT ATE TEA] CODED
A TO CEDED
DEED COAT
[DOE ODE] ACTED
TOAD CEDE
AT DO CEDE
DOTED ACE
A DOT CEDE
OAT CEDED

That's it I'm out of ideas.

I texted both of them around noon today, but so far I havent gotten a response. Bleh. To me, the "xxx" strikes me as a three letter code we should be looking for. CRF? FCR? Idk. Haha.

Oh Wow! I am so jealous you got to do a real life find! That's awesome! I guess we'll get cracking on that file we're supposed to find.

Yeah, pretty cool. Most real life parts of ARGs seem to happen nowhere near here, so I never thought I'd be a part of such a find.

Just glad to be of some help.

Must've just missed each other. I left Iowa City just before noon and was back in Coralville around 1pm.

It struck me that 3 letters would be likely as well since the 'XXX' was written on the top of the box as well as the note.

That's why some of my guesses were 3 digit numbers. I tried 271 because it was in Steve's e-mail addy and 311 because it was a part of the AIM username. I didn't know of any other 3 digit numbers we had come across.

We could try 314 for pi? I don't really remember if there was any significant 3 letter/digit word/number that we encountered that we haven't tried to guess yet.

Other possibilities include "epi" and "sni" ... we've seen both of those used before.

Good News and Bad News

He is on right now and I found the file name. It is BFG from the back of the note.

Bad news is the file has a password and you can only guess three times before the file is locked. I am guessing you cannot guess anymore until he signs on again, because he wont reply to anymore after he said it was locked. I tried tech, Tech, and nforce. Anybody have a clue? Maybe we should try the old passwords.

Excellent, so we at least have the file name. The only thing that pops to mind right now is the way things were written on the box, sort of like login and password. The 'XXX' (BFG) is the login, so maybe it's simply 'Findings' for the password?

OK, so do you ONLY get three tries, or can you log back on and try three times again? Because if we only get three tries each, that's rather a pain. It's not the end of the world, because we can just create new names, but maybe we should choose wisely.

http://www.bfgtech.com/ is exactly the same as the note, and looks legitimate. I don't even know where to start here. Their slogan is "The Gamer's Choice!" Maybe that's something?

There's a bunch of crap in the source code, but it's done more CSS-y than I'm used to, so I'm not sure. There's just a giant block of something that looks like hex, but it's not. I'm wondering if what we're looking for is one of the google search terms. I'm thinking that the PM didn't make this site but is using the content for the game, so that's why there aren't any plain old hidden messages.

EDIT: Aaauuggh is uF being really laggy?!

Yes, it's very laggy. Blame it on Cloverfield.
