Email Phyllis for Mayor and off to the Barrens again

Dearest Sunny,

The Council would not let me, or anyone with me, into their "special" closed meeting. I argued in vain that all Council meetings should be publicly accessible but Pat insisted that didn't apply to "emergency" meetings. Despite grumbling from the crowd, he closed the doors in our faces. Most people left but I stood my ground outside and waited. Within twenty minutes, they were finished and sauntered out casually. Pat was surprised to see me still standing there and told me that now that Dale has been officially removed, "Your campaign to be his replacement can really begin." Ignoring his sarcastic tone, I replied calmly and coolly, "Maybe, I should run for Mayor instead. I think we are sorely in need of leadership in this town. What do you think?" At that I
swiveled around and marched away to a scattering of applause.

Iris and I spent the rest of the night trying to imagine what the Don is
planning out in the Pine Barrens. Iris is determined to get as close to the
storage room in the Library as possible. I, on the other hand, am heading back out to the project site to make sure the contractors aren't doing anything they shouldn't.

I had such a night, I tell you. All night long I was tossing and turning,
deviled by dreams wherein I was battling a series of male authority figures – the Don, of course, and Mayor Dobbs but Father and Douglas made cameo appearances, too.

Wes came by this morning to check in on us. After the fires and with today being so important, he wanted to be sure we are all right. He told us to "watch our backs" because if the Don or the 3-O-7 were planning anything today would be the day. He seemed rather emotional and more open that usual. He seemed to be on the verge of telling us something else but hesitated and just said, "Be careful."

Well, I'm off to the wilds!

Love,

Phyllis

I am really worried about Phyllis she shouldnt be going out there today! Why didnt Wes stop her!

Email Phyllis Don M is having Midnight ritual

Dear Sunny One,
Of course I didn't go out to the Barrens by myself! My goodness dear, do I seem completely insane? With an escort of three brawny lads, I drove out and parked around a bend from the gateway to the ashram property. The security men fanned out into the trees and shadowed me as I approached the gate. The area where the SOD trucks were yesterday was fairly empty except for a few pick-up trucks. There were several men just inside and I approached them with a jaunty air, as though I were out hiking and just came upon them. I wasn't sure if they were the Don's men but as I got closer I was pretty sure that they were mere "rent-a-cops," just local guys employed by some kind of private security firm. One of
them, a young man, gave me a friendly grin so I decided to chat him up. He obviously didn't recognize me from yesterday and may not have even been there for my confrontation with the Don. I pretended to have just come upon the scene unawares and asked him, "Hey, what's all this about?" I laid on the charm and told him I just "love construction sites" in a lame attempt to get inside the gates. He told me all about how Don Marzano was in charge and what an "awesomely powerful dude" he is. "Oh really," I batted my eyes, "Is he here today?" And the fellow blabbed, "Oh, he's not coming until later, probably around eleven or so tonight. I'll be gone by then," he sighed like he hated to miss the fun, "There's some kind of special ceremony or something planned for
midnight, like a dedication or groundbreaking, I figure." Not to lose my pose, I flirted with him a little longer and then bid him a cheery good-bye.

I have tried calling Dale, Wes and Sam but as of right now I haven't heard back from them. I know you're going to scream, "Don't go!" But, if I have to, I'm going to take my little army and go out there tonight without them!

Love,
Phyllis

P.S. There was not a bulldozer in sight.

Well dmax I tried Laughing Laughing Laughing

Well, that gives us a few more hours to find the remaining stones. Hopefully either Wes or Iris can come up with a delaying tactic to give Dale more time.
