 Rob wins the contest
SPEC

I dont think this is a "real" contest. The rules are writen in a way, that no matter what is submitted, Tag doesnt have to award a prize. I think this contest is also part of the Backstory.

Rob is into Marketing. We know that he is planning on going to Japan (in January that is)

It's possible to imagine that maybe Rob blows the Slusho people away with his comercial, and want to hire him.

All speculation of course. But if he was already planning on going to Japan, I think he would have something in his MySpace about that. His buddy Hawk is wearing a SLUSHO T shirt in the original Teaser. That could be because he is proud that his friend Rob landed a sweet gig in Japan. Hell Rob might haven given him the shirt.

So something is going to compel Rob to leave for Japan in the next month. Might be the result of this contest

Considering the official rules and information held therein, I would say this contest is very real. There are also certain legal ramifications of making a 'fake' contest, especially when claiming a prize will be given. I think it's notable that they didn't just speak of generic 'Slusho themed laptops' but went to the trouble of naming Alienware and showing a very real Alienware laptop. As to verbiage that suggests they don't have to award anyone - you should read more contest rules. Wink

I did read the rules, and they made it quite clear that they can pull out for nearly any reason at all. It very well may be a real contest. Im just not sure. As far as legal ramifications goes, the laws would'nt pertain to a "make believe company"

If this was a real company by US law, they would have to be able to offer us the information on the official rules, and who is hosting the contest

I used to work for a sweepstakes company (btw dont participate in sweepstakes, its a racket) in order to host an offical "contest" there are procedures that must be met, as well as forms that need to be filled out (The Host of the contest has to file TAX information on the prizes amoung other stuff) I dont know if this has been done or not, but if it was'nt, then this is'nt a real contest.

for example. The Sweepstakes I worked for was Magazine Sweepstakes Limited. This company was just the name used in the contest. The actual company was named Direct Sales International. In our paperwork that was sent out at the request of the contestant, we had to give contact information to our "actual" company. This is done is the event of a lawsuit or what have you. You cant file a "Better Buisness Bureau" if you dont know the name of the actual company.

I would think that if this is real, we would have conteact info provided to us for Paramount, or at the very least Bad Robot. But that wasnt mentioned.

I do admit however, that I dont know everything about contest law, but thats the way I understood it.

Maybe it's both, they said there could be more than one winner, so maybe there is real winners, and Rob Hawkins.

What I posted was just a speculation. Perhaps it is a contest. I was throwing a SPEC out there that it may be part of the back story.

I didn't mean you hadn't read the rules for this contest, but that you might not have read them for many contests in general. Many times there's a clause stating that the prizes may not be awarded at all. McDonald's Monopoly game had something like that stated, because I know as many times as they've run it they've rarely given out the million dollar prize.

I came here just to post this exact sentiment - DAMN! I was so busy finishing up the 1000 pages of the Jamie/Teddy Video #5 thread you beat me to it! Oh well, you know what they say about great minds.....hehehe. Wink

Anyway, to continue that thought, if Rob wins, then the events of 1-18-08 basically nullify his receiving any prize, since he probably won't live to get it anyway.

The contest rules lists Bold Futura as the "Sponsor" of the contest, with an address and all. They're not a real company outside of this ARG/E.

How do we know? They could have easily gotten a business license for a company called Bold Futura, even if just for this contest alone.

Valid point. I should amend my statement to "as far as we know, they are not a real company outside of this ARG/E".

I stand corrected.

Bold Futura owns the Slusho trademark, they are real. They're still a front company, but they exist. I think the competition is genuine, it would be unfair to the fans if it wasn't.

Stanley Kubrick's favorite typeface was Futura Extra Bold, not sure if that's been brought up before..

Seems to me that some lines may have been deliberately crossed in this situation by the creators of this whole thing. The line between the ingame universe and our own reality are blurred a bit here.

Bold Futura owns the Slusho! brand trademark, but who "owns" it?

Bold Futura is a real registered company yes, who's sole purpose is to exist as a fictional part of this experience. It's nothing but a name in our reality...but a subsidiary of Tagruato in the Cloverfield reality, ie JJ Abram's marketing campaign.

Just my 2 cents on this one.

Peace.

Exactly. Plus, we're being asked to make a commercial about something with which we have had no experience and being told what to put in it and what not to put in it (nothing "scary or bad"). And the Force Majeur statement is so involved - more so than a lot of contests I've entered (not entering this one, because I lack the equipment/skills/time to develop an entry, unless someone wants me for voiceover work Very Happy. My housemate produces music, so I could get a recording together that way, but I digress). I still think it's there to have Rob enter and win, then subsequently get a job at Tagruato. There will still be 4 other winners, so the fans still have a chance.

Thanks for the 2 cents, Fignut - I'll put that in the bank - it may gain some interest...
