I don't want to seem like the "OMFG ROBIN'S IN THE MOVIE!!" conspiracy theorist guy, but the name the cakes were kept under was Robin Banks. It just sort of caught my eye.

In other news... Giskard, Gupfee, and xnbomb got the cake in Boston. Yay!

Hey, we need to get those guys back in on unfiction, and this thread!

I'm sorry to have taken a little while to get on here and give a preliminary report.

Gupfee, Giskard and myself were enjoying each other's company in downtown Boston when we found out that there were places to go and things to do! As fast as was humanly possible, we hopped onto the T and headed for Bova's Bakery in the North End.

We got there and there was no one else in the bakery except the employees. After a brief moment of looking at each other and wondering who might want to proceed we decided I should go for it: I said "I'm here to pick up a cake." The lady behind the counter replied with a curt "Name?" After a brief pause I replied "Robin Banks."

She seemed to expect this and went and got the cake. As I think you already know, the cake indicated that we should call a phone number that was indicated on top the cake in icing. We called that number using Gupfee's cell and not much seemed to happen. After many rings I got a voicemail box and left a pretty stupid sounding message.

After that, I tried calling the number using my cell phone. This time, we heard a faint ringing. At this point, the wheels started turning ... A-HA! I had joked on the way over that the cake might contain a chisel or somesuch, but I didn't expect that it might contain a phone. The bakery was kind enough to lend me a knife, and I dug into the cake (trying not to make to much of mess ... we wanted to have this cake and eat it too) and found a small plastic (evidence?) bag containing a cellphone, a joker card, and the following message on a small piece of paper:

Quote:
Wow, you really took the bait cake! Now, put the icing on it:
call XXX-XXX-XXXX immediately from this phone and THIS PHONE ONLY.
Do NOT give this number to anyone else.

Let's hope your fellow goons come through as well as you. Once all the layers are in place, you'll all get your just desserts.

I'm a man of my word.

I have not included the number in this post as per Mr. J's instructions.

Between the time we arrived at and left the bakery, two other fans showed up at the bakery. They didn't seem too interested in talking to us; once they found out someone else had gotten the cake first, they split pretty fast.

Upon calling the number in question, a rather high pitched female voice (Harley Quinn like?) thanked me for calling and let me know that "we know who you are now."

About 5 minutes later, I received a text message:

Quote:
From: humanresourcesSPLATwhysoserious.com
Good work, clown!
Keep this phone charged and with you at all times.
Don't call me, I'll call you...eventually.

So, I guess I'll be hearing from that special someone. Hopefully, he won't try to call me while I am in the concrete bunker I am sitting in right now ... there's no cell reception at all here.

Giskard and his DSLR captured the whole experience in photographs, and when he gets them downloaded off his camera and gets online, there will be pictures.

Man, I'm jealous. I didn't even know about this today, nor even that you and Giskard live in Boston as well. I doubt I would have been able to get out of work long enough, so thanks for the report!

Well, I don't exactly live here, but I am visiting the US at the moment, so I was very lucky to have been a part of this. Unfortunately, Europe is still very much underdeveloped when it comes to this kind of stuff. All I can say is: yay, I beat the system, if you don't bring live events to me, I will simply bring myself to the live events! Very Happy

They didn't even have to crack a code, just dial a number. Wink

Somebody linked (several pages back) a couple articles about a recent press screening of an IMAX-format trailer for the movie. So I suspect that's what it is. Could be more, but all is complete spec.

My best spec is that it's a screening of I Am Legend. That movie has already been confirmed to have 6-7 minutes of The Dark Knight shown before it, in IMAX theaters only.

I dont think it will be all of I Am Legend, im sure people will get some sort of prize (perhaps the new poster) and then see the 6 minute prologue that just debuted.

Meeting up at Thursday's New York screening

Hi everyone --

Sorry if this is off-topic or posted in the wrong place! I'm writing an article about ARGs for my graduate program in cultural reporting, and I've been eagerly following the Dark Knight ... I'll be at Thursday's screening at Lincoln Square and would love to talk to anyone who'll be there about Dark Knight and ARGs in general. I'll be milling around if anyone wants to come find me (I'm a short Indian girl; I'll have a plaid handbag), but I'd also love to make contact with some folks beforehand! You can email me at nsr236splatnyu.edu.

Thanks!

-- Nina
