I gotta agree that its an odd thing to say. I def don't think its the monsters name though.
If I were to say something was alive then that means it was either dead and came back to life, or it never had life to begin with and now it suddenly does.
If all of a sudden a huge monster came out of the water and started destroying my city, the last thing I'm gonna say is its alive. That would be an obvious observation. In my opinion, whatever it is, nobody expected it to be alive until it was too late. I could be wrong though.

What would you say if you caught a glimpse of something moving and everyone else thought the destruction was earthquakes or bombs?
Does anyone know which person is saying 'it's alive?' is it Hud?

We dont know that. For all we know, it could be a short while after.
Frankly I see nothing confusing about saying its alive twice.
This is a sticking point ive had with people saying this is farther in the film. I think it makes more sense that the scene in the store is right after the SOL head scene. That store is presumably right near Rob's ( or one of the other slusho 7's) apartment, due to the publicity pics showing them there before the attack. Im thinking they ducked into the store as the monster comes down Broadway after throwing the head. Just my opinion, but seems to be the one that makes the most sense

Yeah that promo pic in the store looks like it's from before the attack, where they're wearing different clothes.
They're looking for Jason when the SOL head lands, and the only place we see him is inside the store.
Store scene follows the head landing, possibly with the monster sighting between them, or just after.

I must say the level of useless specualtion in these forums has increased dramatically in recent days. Maybe the monster is related to George Bush. Sheesh. Do people even think anymore before blathering on and on about nothing? "It's alive" would be comparable to an R-rated: "Holy-Jesus-Fucking-Shit There's some huge fuckin' thing tearin' up the city. Oh Shit, we are all gonna die!"

I could be utterly wrong, but it seems to me the two statements are meant to convince Rob that the thing that was earlier found apparently dead (on the ocean floor?) is very thing now attacking New York--thus "it's alive!"

I don't think they're saying "it's alive!" because it was something previously discovered dead. If that were the case, they would've said "it's still alive", and they'd have to mention what it is e.g.
"I saw it, it's [name of thing], it's (still) alive, it's huge!"
Otherwise everyone would go "What's alive?", then the guy would have to explain that it's "that previously dead thing" which he would've said in the first place unless he's completely retarded.

If it was found dead then they would probably know what it is. Rob says "SOMETHING is attacking the city" not "The thing we found dead earlier is attacking the city". They have no clue what it is. Also they marine claims that he doesnt know what it is but its winning. They dont know what it is. They have never seen this monster before.

I really do believe now that there is something of major importance to the exclamation of "it's alive". Remember there was some guy who was telling some supposed inside info about the movie said that that was a very important clue, and now we get it again in the second trailer as if almost to say "look guys, you missed it the first time so here it is again":. I'm almost thinking that it might be "lion" or something other than alive just because we are obviously missing something rather obvious with this line/clue!

Of course it's a major clue, it lets us know that it's a giant, living 'something'!
Seriously guys, think about what you're gonna post before you do it, you're being ridiculous.
"It's alive!" is a nostalgic reference to those old monster movies, THAT IS ALL!
It's two different people who say those words from the teaser we've seen and the trailer.
Think about it this way, you hear explosions and some sort of weird noise, now, I know that most of you are in the mindset right now that if you heard this stuff you 'might' consider that some sort of giant monster is attacking the city, but these people aren't. They're ordinary people who aren't embroiled in an online monster movie marketing device.
"Oh my god, what's destroying the city? Is someone going mental with a crane? A tank? I someone shooting missiles at us?"
"I saw it, it's alive and it's huge!"
"Alive?"

Ok people, the whole thing with 'it's alive' is to let people know that in the move there is something alive that is causing all the destruction.
If someone who has never heard of Cloverfield watches the trailer, he might think that it could be about a nuclear bomb, natural disaster or something like that. The line 'it's alive' helps to tell the person that the thing causing the destruction is in fact alive, letting the person know that it's a movie about something big and alive attacking a city.
